Chapter 1444
Santos couldn't figure out why Asa insisted on Ben waking up, but he knew better than to ask; Asa probably wouldn't reveal his reasons anyway. After thinking it over, he said, "I'll do my best, but I have a favor to ask in return."
"Go ahead," Asa said, welcoming the condition. It was a transaction, after all; no need for either party to feel indebted.
Santos tapped his chin, where the edges of a silicone mask began to separate from his real skin. Removing the mask revealed a surprisingly young face.
Asa looked at the face for a moment before saying, "Find the person who took Ben down and hand them over to me. How about it?"
Asa lightly tapped the table, showing no hesitation in agreeing. His target was someone with an intellect developed beyond the norm; he wasn't concerned with anyone else.
Seeing Asa's agreement, Santos thought for a moment and then suggested, "Maybe you should start with a woman."
Asa was somewhat surprised. "You mean, the person who took down Ben is a woman?"
"Yes, if I'm not mistaken," Santos replied.
"Alright, I got it." Asa nodded. At that moment, he remembered something. He had asked Ben to come back to the base with him, but Ben had insisted on staying behind.
It was because of a woman, wasn't it?
After hanging up the phone, Asa pondered and then instructed his assistant to investigate the woman who had caused Ben's downfall.
...
Meanwhile, Santos put down his phone and turned on the faucet, cupping cold water to rinse his face. After washing for a while, he looked up again.
His face, from years of wearing a silicone mask, was unusually pale, and his facial muscles resembled those of someone with facial paralysis or a zombie; they showed no emotion, whether happiness or anger.
Santos wiped his face, walked out of the bathroom, grabbed a can of beer from the fridge, popped the tab, and took a big gulp.
Standing still for two minutes, something crossed his mind, and he looked at the bedroom door before walking over with his beer, opening the door.
The bedroom wasn't very large, containing only a bed and a chaise lounge. There was someone lying on the bed, seemingly asleep, who didn't react to Santos's entrance.
Santos approached the nightstand,
put down his beer, then opened the drawer and took out a scented candle, lighting it. The gentlenoveldrama
fragrance of sandalwood mixed with
a hint of medicinal scent began to fill the room.
५
Santos glanced at the person on the bed, then picked up his beer can, sat down
on the chaise lounge, stretched his legs out, and leaned back lazily, occasionally sipping his beer.
Not long after the candle was lit, the person on the bed's eyelids twitched and slowly opened.
Santos didn't look at the person on the bed, as if he knew they had woken up, and said indifferently, "So, Cian is still alive."
The person on the bed was just
regaining consciousness, and it took
a moment to process Santos's
words. He tried to move his hands
but lacked the strength to even lift them, let alone sit up.
"What did you say?" A weak, hoarse voice came from Paul's mouth. He stopped struggling, just turning his head to look at Santos sitting on the chaise lounge.
Santos's lips curled slightly, and he took another sip of beer, looking at the ceiling. "You don't have to act so surprised. Didn't you leave your family to find her?"
Did he think Santos couldn't see right through him?
What do you think?
