Chapter 599 Is Nico Two Faced
Chapter 599 Is Nico Two Faced
Gwendolyn drove back to Harrick Villa that night.
Cedrick was not at the Federal Bureau of Investigation; he seemed to have gone back to the Jenson residence. Thus, she wanted to spare him the trouble of picking her up.
When she reached home, she walked past the garden to find only the study was lit.
At that realization, she entered the house and went straight to the study.
The study’s door was ajar, revealing Cedrick sitting at the office desk, his gaze fixed, albeit distant, on an unknown spot. Clearly, he was deeply engrossed in his thoughts.
He looked somber as if something had happened.
Finding his behavior puzzling, Gwendolyn quietly entered the room and made her way to the back of his office chair.
Cedrick was so absorbed in his thoughts that he did not even notice the woman entering.
“What’s wrong, Hubby? Did something happen?”
With her dainty digits, she gently squeezed his broad shoulders and massaged them. This is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
Her familiar voice and the sensation of her fingers kneading his shoulders pulled Cedrick back to reality.
He took the hands that were massaging his shoulders and kissed them. “Yael hid Xander. When I went to see him, he told me that there was a hidden reason behind my parents death, and he used that to threaten me to let Xander off.”
Gwendolyn frowned at what she heard. “Does he really know the cause? If Mom and Dad really got into an accident back then, why don’t you just ask Grandpa about it?”
Cedrick sighed dejectedly. That was where the problem lay.
Earlier that day, Cedrick had gone to ask Valentino, who shook his head firmly and denied there was anything more to the matter. Everything the latter said was precisely what he told Cedrick since young- nothing more, nothing less.
In fact, Cedrick pressed on until the point where Valentino lost his temper and threatened to punish the former if he continued bringing up the past and invoking his sadness.
Nonetheless, Valentino’s overreaction proved there may be more to the matter like what Yael suggested.
As Cedrick pondered upon it, he recounted every single detail to Gwendolyn because of his unconditional trust for her.
At the end of the recount, Gwendolyn nodded in agreement. “Grandpa has always been a composed and mature person: The fact that he’s threatening to punish you does sound like an overreaction, but perhaps he has always been sensitive toward that matter.”
The couple fell silent at the same time.
After mulling over the matter, Gwendolyn finally asked, “What are you planning to do? Are you going to let Xander off in exchange for the secret?”
That was exactly what put Cedrick in a dilemma.
He glanced at the picture frame on the table–it was a picture of his parents when they were younger.
As someone who missed out on his parents‘ love since young, the idea of someone plotting his parents‘ death instead of it being an accident was a complete shock to him.
As much as he wanted to find out the truth, he did not want to let Xander off.
“Grandpa’s not the only one affected by Xander’s mistake. When he joined forces with Paul, you got dragged into the matter, too, and was brought to the police station. I don’t have the right to forgive him, let alone let Yael use this as leverage to threaten me.”
Gwendolyn let out an audible sigh. “You don’t have to worry about me. Being brought to the police station isn’t a big deal. It all boils down to how much you think Yael’s words can be trusted.”
Turning his head to look at her, he asked, “What do you think, Gwenny?”
“It’s hard to say, but he’s using this as his trump card. I have a feeling he never would’ve used it if Xander hadn’t gotten into trouble this time. If we analyze it from this point of view, I believe his words can still be trusted.”
Cedrick fell into deep thought before uttering, “I need to think about this. But first, I’ll re–investigate what happened back then and look for clues before accepting Cedrick’s terms.”
Gwendolyn did not want to see him worrying about the matter anymore since he already had a plan in mind. As such, she went around his chair and sat on his thighs.
“That’s enough thinking for tonight. Let’s talk about this tomorrow morning.”
Cedrick wrapped his hand around her waist almost instinctively despite feeling surprised by how proactive she was.
“Gwenny, you’re different tonight.”
Gwendolyn tilted her head with a smile, her gaze mesmerizing. “In what way?”
She had successfully distracted him, drawing his attention to herself.
Right then, Cedrick leaned toward her and whispered into her ear, his voice seductive. “You’re beautiful as ever but unusually proactive. You make me want to eat you up.”
“Well… Why don’t we do it in the study tonight?” came Gwendolyn’s blunt suggestion. They were basically married for years, so there was nothing to be ashamed of.
Of course, Cedrick was more than happy to accept the suggestion. Kissing her lips, he murmured, “I’ll do whatever you say.”
All of a sudden, the tense atmosphere in the study was replaced by a sweet and affectionate one.
The two engaged in an intimate moment, leaving trails of love on the study table, the couch, and the coffee table as they enjoyed themselves without restraint.
Cedrick did not let go of Gwendolyn’s waist until he was satisfied.
Overwhelmed by his greed for her scent, he enjoyed the night filled with passion.
Gwendolyn’s mania did not act up after the intense “exercise” last night.
The couple hugged each other and slept peacefully through the night.
She was energized and invigorated the next morning despite the soreness in her waist.
“Hubby…”
Cedrick was still sound asleep while she was awake and only woke up when Gwendolyn pinched his nose mischievously. Blinking blearily, he gazed at her and asked, “Did you sleep well? You must be
exhausted from last night.”
Gwendolyn leaned over and kissed him. “I slept well, and guess what? I didn’t have an episode last night although I didn’t go for my IV treatment. How surprising. Do you think it’s because I was too exhausted from the intense exercise? Is that why my mania didn’t act up?”
Cedrick was not well–versed in medicine, so he answered, “I’ll ask Joshua about it.”
Gwendolyn immediately flushed bright red.
“How are you going to ask him about it? This is a private matter between a married couple. How could you tell an outsider about this?”
__Cedrick was momentarily at a loss for words.
He still remembered the day when he made up with Gwendolyn and slept with her at the hospital. After that, he eagerly showed off the marks on his body to the whole world.
Nico and Joshua knew all about it. I wonder if Gwenny would feel embarrassed if she found out what I did back then! Um… I bet she’d be mad.
Noticing him staring into space, Gwendolyn flicked his forehead with her finger.
“What are you thinking about? Don’t you ever tell Joshua about our private matters, you hear me? We can test it out a few more times to find out if sex is really the reason why I didn’t have an episode.”
Cedrick bobbed his head obediently. “Okay. I’ll do as you say.”
With that, the two got out of bed, washed up, and quickly finished their breakfast.
Cedrick dropped Gwendolyn off at Harris Group before driving to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Yael had spent the night there last night. As someone who was born with a silver spoon, spending an entire night in the cell was the worst thing that could happen to him. He had never been so humiliated before in his life. In fact, he was probably throwing a tantrum at that very moment.
Cedrick was about to go and check on Yael for he was curious about how miserable the latter was.
The first thing he saw upon arriving at the Federal Bureau of Investigation was a grimacing Nico who was massaging his arms.
Cedrick was about to go up and ask Nico about it when Neville beat him to it. Placing a hand on Nico’s shoulder, Neville bantered with him as they walked ahead.
As his view was obstructed, Neville didn’t notice Cedrick standing behind them and said to Nico teasingly, “Nico! Oh, wait. I should be addressing you as Mr. Nico in two days. What’s up with you? Why are you looking so lifeless? Did you get beaten by your fiancée?”
Nico scoffed, “She’s basically my pet, so she would never dare to beat me up. I got punished by Mr. Jenson yesterday morning.”
The information left Neville re–examining his friend’s condition. “Why are you in so much pain? Did he make you undergo some physical training?”
Nico nodded miserably. “Two hundred and forty–nine push–ups and two hundred and forty–nine minutes of handstand at a wall.”
His words shocked Neville to the core. “The push–ups are fine, but a four–hour handstand? That’s insane! How could you possibly endure it? Did Mr. Jenson actually torture you that way? Is this part of becoming a deputy director?”
Cedrick trailed behind them quietly, listening intently to the two of them talking about him behind his back.
Nico had always presented himself as a loyal, honest, and competent subordinate in front of Cedrick. Hence, Cedrick was intrigued to find out how Nico viewed him as his superior in private.
Is he another two–faced person who worships me on the surface but rebels against me behind my back?.
