The Framed Heiress Strikes Back

Chapter 6

Chapter 6 The Joy of Cursing Them

Sacha let out a soft sigh, her voice full of gentle concern. "Honestly, even if you hadn't managed to heal my mom, I was already planning to take you in. You've been through so

much for someone your age."

That one sentence-so simple yet sincere finally brought a genuine smile to Davina's face. "Thank you, Sacha."

Unable to hold back, Sacha gave her a warm hug. "From now on, think of me as your mother. My home is your home. Rest for a couple of days first, and then I'll throw you a welcome party.

It'll be our way of sweeping out all the bad luck from the past."

It hadn't taken Sacha much digging to learn about Davina's past.

And the more time she spent with her, the more she found herself growing fond of the girl. Especially now-Davina's extraordinary medical skill had saved her own mother's life.

Gratitude was only natural, but it went deeper than that. She felt a bond.

For a moment, Davina felt a sharp ache in her heart-for the original Davina.

How cruel was it that the warmth and care she now received from a complete stranger were

things her own birth parents and brothers had never given her?

After dropping Davina off at the villa, Sacha headed back to the office.

But before she left, she handed Davina a sleek black card. She said, "There's a million dollars

on it, and it's yours. A thank-you gift for saving my mother. Go get yourself something nice." Davina didn't refuse. She needed the money right now.

Sacha also assigned her a secretary, who would stay nearby and take care of any errands or needs she had.

Back at the villa, Davina took a long, hot shower, then sank into a blissful nap on a king-size bed.noveldrama

Her room spanned over 300 square feet. It was a far cry from the cold, narrow cot she'd slept on in prison.

When she finally woke up, she noticed the room had been fully outfitted with a laptop, a smartphone, and all sorts of tech gadgets popular among young people.

It was clear-Sacha had been preparing for her release for a while.

Davina sat down; she went online using the phone and computer.

Curious about her past, she signed into all her old social accounts-just to see what kind of person the old Davina had been.

Messages flooded in the second she opened them.

Nearly all of them were from her family.

Her fingers flew over the keyboard as she began to reply, one by one.

Blair asked, "Where are you logging in from? Better not be some shady cyber café. Don't make me say it twice-come home now!"

Davina replied, "Buzz off."

Lewis wrote, "Who picked you up? Where are you? Do you know how sad Stella's been since you didn't come home?"

Davina rebuked, "Her feelings are none of my business. What am I, her mother?"

Cassia threatened, "If you're not coming home, then don't bother us for the rest of your life, you jinx!"

Davina answered, "Fine by me."

Ashen asked, "Bitch, what's wrong with you? Stella even made you a cake to welcome you home, and now the whole family's sitting around waiting for you. And you're out doing what?" Davina replied, "What a shame. If I'm a bitch, I guess that makes you something worse." Stella asked, "Davina, where are you? You're seriously not coming home, are you?" Davina assured, "Don't worry-I'm not. And I'll still have no trouble sending you to jail." After firing off her last reply, she blocked them all.

One word summed up how she felt.

Liberated.

Her brothers didn't want her to go home because they cared. They were just afraid she'd stir up trouble or start talking.

Maybe just maybe there was a shred of guilt buried deep down, but they probably believed that letting her come home would be enough to ease that guilt.

As if that alone was some kind of favor.

They believed it was only natural that she had taken the fall for Stella.

Even though it had clearly been Stella who'd pushed someone down the stairs, none of them believed it; they insisted it was an accident.

After all, how could their sweet and kind little sister ever do such a thing?

Davina, the outsider who grew up apart from them, could never compare to the sister they'd known throughout their whole lives.

As for Stella-she was probably praying Davina would never return. As long as Davina stayed away, she wasn't a threat.

But if she returned, her blood ties to the family could undermine everything Stella had built. And their parents? They believed that love came from raising a child, not giving birth to one. To them, the daughter they had raised would always come first.

How could a girl who'd grown up in a struggling household ever compete with someone like Stella, who'd had private lessons, dance classes, music tutoring, and every advantage from day one?

After breakfast, Percy Tate, her new secretary, showed up.

"Good morning, Ms. Davina. Ms. Sacha says once you're fully rested, I'll take you out shopping for anything you like. Mrs. Grace was able to walk around the house a bit this morning, and her test results show she's steadily recovering. She's been asking for you nonstop since she woke up. If you're free, she'd love for you to come back to the estate and have a meal together."
