Chapter 545 The Funeral—Kneeling On What Was Once Jenkins Family Land
"Charles deserved to die. He really did. Charlene, now that Charles is dead, you can finally change your name," Yvette said and burst into laughter.
Charlene stepped out from the house, her expression tangled with emotions.
"Screw you." Elijah couldn't hold it any longer. He stormed forward and threw a punch straight at Yvette.
A sharp cry tore through the air.
"Grandma!"
Yvette was knocked to the ground by Elijah's punch. Charlene screamed and rushed to her side in a panic.
"Jessy," Marcus called out quietly.
Jessy immediately stepped forward with a medical kit in hand. "Yes, Mr. Holden."
She was clearly nervous as she approached and began checking Yvette's condition.
Elijah stood nearby, his tall, broad frame towering over them. That punch he threw just now could have killed Yvette if he hadn't held back.
After all, Marcus had said clearly that Yvette couldn't be allowed to die just yet. Letting her die so easily would have been too merciful.
Jessy had been personally brought there by Elijah. She had once impersonated Dr. Elim, but she was indeed a medical student. Letting her treat Yvette was the most fitting punishment.
Before coming, Jessy had already learned the truth. Lucy was her biological mother, and she knew what Lucy had gone through all those years ago.
As Jessy looked down at Yvette while tending to her wounds, she couldn't hold back. Her nails dug deep into Yvette's wrist.
"You old witch. You're the one who killed my mother." She gritted her teeth, lowering her voice to a threatening whisper. "You filthy hag. Just wait."
Only Yvette, Charlene heard her words. After she finished, Jessy quietly packed up the medical kit and stepped aside.
"Mr. Holden, I'm finished."
"Take them away," Marcus ordered as he turned and walked out.
Elijah stepped forward and grabbed both women, one in each hand, giving them no chance to react or resist.
Jessy followed behind them respectfully, carrying her medical kit.
The group walked out of the narrow alley. A car was parked by the side of the
road. Marcus got in. Natalie was already inside, holding an urn in her arms.
When Marcus entered, she handed the urn with both hands. He took it in silence, carefully cradling it against his chest.
"Are you alright?" Natalie asked softly.
Just as she finished speaking, Elijah stormed past the window, dragging Yvette
and Charlene, fury radiating from every step. Jessy followed at a light jog, trying to keep up.
Marcus spoke calmly. "Drive. To Luminara Park."
"Yes, sir," the driver replied.
The car started and headed toward Luminara Park, the amusement park owned by the Walker family.
Elijah threw Yvette and Charlene into the car behind them. Jessy got in as well. The Holden family convoy rolled out in unison.
The official obituary for Charles had already been released. The funeral would be held at Luminara Park. The entire park had been cleared and closed at top speed.
A memorial hall had already been set up inside.
Those attending the ceremony passed through security in an orderly fashion, then were led to the hall by designated personnel.
A large black casket stood inside the hall. It held only Charles' clothing. His ashes would later be buried beneath the big maple tree in Holden Residence.
When Marcus and Natalie arrived, their car took a different route and stopped directly in front of the memorial hall.
This exact location was once the living room of the Jenkins family villa, many years ago.
Marcus wore a black suit. As soon as he entered the hall, he quietly took his role as family representative.
Natalie wore a black dress with a white rose pinned to her chest.
Her eldest brother Sky had been granted temporary leave from prison to attend
the funeral. In other words, the entire Walker family was present.
The security detail had sealed off the entire venue. Marcus walked slowly toward
the casket, his posture rigid, handsome face expressionless.
Guests approached, offering their condolences before bowing their heads in silent prayer.
"Mr. Holden, may you find peace."
Marcus nodded in return without speaking.
Soon, Elijah arrived, dragging Yvette and Charlene behind him. At Marcus' gesture, all guests were ushered to the side to be seated in the VIP area.
Marcus stood and turned to look at Charles' portrait above the altar. He had chosen a birthday photo taken when Charles turned 70. His smile was kind and full of warmth.
He had been a truly good man,
someone who should have lived out his days in comfort. Yet in the end,
he had taken his own life. And not in a way that allowed even the slightest chance of rescue.
Marcus clenched his fists. His emotions surged and churned
beneath the surface. Finally, he turned around slowly and fixed his gaze on Yvette and Charlene, both forced to kneel by Elijah.
On the other side of the casket, Sheldon stood silently in a black suit. His eyes were swollen from crying as he glared at Yvette with barely contained hatred.noveldrama
"Mrs. Jenkins Senior. Does this place feel familiar to you?" Marcus spoke at last. His voice was low and hoarse, laced with ice. His eyes burned with venom.
He looked at her coldly. "The spot where you're kneeling used to be Jenkins family land."
Yvette felt a chill run down her spine, though she kept her face expressionless.
She let out a scoff. "You people are nothing but thieves. Don't you feel any guilt at
all?"
"Only the guilty fear the past catching up to them," William stepped forward.
"The Walker and Holden families have always acted with integrity. We have nothing to hide. But you, Mrs. Jenkins Senior. Tell me, does the Jenkins family feel no shame?
"You hid the truth about Vivian's
ine
affair with another man. You lied to Mr. Holden Senior and passed here off as single and pure. You used deceit to marry her into the Holden family, and even after the wedding, she kept sneaking around with that man. Your family kept fighting just to protect that affair."
William's gaze sharpened.
"Vivian burned down the Jenkins residence. The Walker family obtained this land
through legal means. And what did you do? You stole my daughter.
"You want to talk about cruelty? Who's more vicious than you? Who's more shameless than the Jenkins family?
"Vivian betrayed Mr. Holden Senior and set fire to her own family's home. You switched out my daughter and drove him to his death. And still, you have the audacity to accuse others?
"Your Jenkins family is the one that's truly shameless. The most vile. The most disgusting."
"You..." Yvette stared at William, utterly stunned.
"Marcus, how could you let him say these things? How could you let William expose all this?"
A scream tore from her throat.
Marcus stared at her, his eyes sharp enough to kill. If looks could cut a person down, Yvette would already be in shreds.
"Why wouldn't I? You act like you're some paragon of virtue. Like the whole world owes you, owes your precious Jenkins family. Then let the world decide."
His tone was calm, yet every word sliced like a blade.
"Let them tell us. Who's truly shameless? Your Jenkins family, or mine? My grandfather is already dead because of you. Do you think I have anything left to fear?"
What do you think?
