Chapter 23
"Hahaha!" The burly men laughed immediately.
"You got quite the big mouth, pretty lady. However, you're exactly my type!" The leader of the group spoke as he stretched his perverted hand toward Winnie. "Come, let me touch your face and see if it's smooth! Tsk, tsk, tsk, your skin is so fair!"
Before his hand could reach Winnie, she grabbed and twisted it violently.
A cracking sound was heard as the man's wrist was broken.
Then he screamed, "Ouch! M-My wrist! It's broken! Let go of me, you b*tch!"
Winnie smiled coldly and kicked the man away. "Stop being so noisy, trash."
"Are you all dead? Get her!" Seconds later, the man crawled up and shouted at the other men standing around.
Only then did the other men snap out of their astonishment and charge toward Winnie.
Staring at her enemies, she remained unmoved with no intention of escaping.
All she did was slowly pull her scarf down and remove the necklace around her neck.
The necklace was crafted with a special material. It was usually bendable and soft when worn on the neck. However, upon pressing a button, its length would immediately increase, and it would become stiff, transforming into a weapon as hard as a metal wire. "You were all asking for it, you scums!"
The men looked down on her from the beginning because they thought a feeble woman with no weapon in hand could not deal much damage.
However, Winnie had obtained a weapon. So, it didn't take long for her to beat up all of them.
Still, it was her against five people. After the battle had concluded, she was pretty much spent. Additionally, the necklace was too thin and tough. As she used the weapon to attack her enemies, it was also cutting her palm.
A weapon like that was only helpful in an emergency for protection. Used it for too long, and it would hurt its wielder.
Just as she was exhausted, one of the men who she had ignored earlier suddenly rushed out.
It was the man who pretended to be a driver earlier, Scarface.
He was waiting for Winnie to wear herself out before taking her down.
At that point, her body was drained of energy.
She became more and more anxious as Scarface got closer to her.
At the last second, two powerful beams of light suddenly shone in her direction. It was because a car was driving toward her.
While the car still hadn't gotten close, Winnie instantly knew Xavier had arrived.
The reason was that the car was making a unique engine sound.
That vehicle was basically the equivalent of a highly prestigious noble in the world of luxury cars. Every model was a globally limited edition, and each car was haute couture. Even the lowest price started at one hundred million. No more than fifty people on the planet owned one.
Xavier was one of them.
However, she was confused as to why he was there.
Half an hour ago, he received news from Mary that Winnie had wrapped up her doctor's visit and was ready to return to the mansion.
Mary even asked him if he wanted to return that night, but he refused.
However, when he was having dinner by himself, he suddenly felt as though the food he was chewing tasted like wax. So, he picked up his phone and checked the GPS location of the car Winnie was using. The moment he did, he realized something was off.
That was because the car wasn't heading in the direction of the mansion.
Without giving it much thought, he jumped into his fastest SSC sports car and drove out.
I hope I'm not too late. Xavier quickly parked his car next to the Bentley.
The moment he arrived, he saw two people in front of him, seemingly ready to fight. Nonetheless, in the blink of an eye, they were both gone.
Due to the darkness of the night and, because he was absent-minded, he didn't realize one of the fighters was Winnie.
After he descended from the car, he went to check the Bentley.
He found the unconscious driver and Mary in the trunk and the back of the car, respectively. However, he didn't find Winnie.
The driver's injuries were more serious, which was why he was still blacked out.
Mary, on the other hand, had woken up. "Y-You're here, Mr. Xavier..."
Xavier's expression turned terribly dark. "Where's Mrs. Fairchild?"
From her perspective, she saw Winnie escaping the car and fighting against a group of people before taking all of them down. It was difficult for her to tell if what she saw earlier was a dream or not. After thinking about it for a while, she believed she was dreaming because it didn't seem logical for Winnie to be able to defeat so many men at once.Content © provided by NôvelDrama.Org.
"I..." Mary shook her head vigorously. "Mrs. Fairchild was taken away."
"To where? Did you see the direction they left in?" Xavier asked.
Her head shook again. "No. I didn't."
Instead of wasting more time on Mary, Xavier picked up one of the men lying on the ground and questioned, "Where did you take the woman? Where is she?" The man groaned in pain. "Be more gentle! It hurts when you touch my injury."
In response, he treated the man even more harshly as the scowl on his face intensified. "I'm asking you, where's the woman?"
The man answered fearfully with a stutter, "S-She was taken away by Scarface t-to over here. P-Please just let me leave. Go and quickly find your woman."
After giving the man a forceful kick, Xavier strode toward the area the man pointed at.
Soon, he arrived at an abandoned construction site. Steel and concrete could be seen everywhere.
He turned on the torchlight function on his phone and stepped into the dark.
Suddenly, he heard whimpers that sounded like they came from a cat.
Even though the voice was tiny, he could still hear it.
It was because that crying sound was all too familiar to him. That night, when he pinned her to the wall, she cried just like that.
"Is that you, Dumbo? Answer me!" Xavier shouted.
A sobbing voice pierced through the darkness. "Is that you, Handsome? I'm not Dumbo. Don't call me Dumbo. Ugh..."
"It really is you!" He promptly kicked away the objects nearby and dashed toward Winnie, who was sitting in the corner.
"Dumbo!" After he took a good look at her delicate, fair, and pretty face, he pulled her into his embrace before hugging her tightly. "Are you all right? No need to be afraid. I'm here to rescue you."
Winnie continued to sob as she laid her head on his shoulder, as though her tired body had instantly found a place to rest. "I was so scared. Bad guys were trying to take me away. They pulled my clothes apart and hurt me."
As she spoke, she raised her bloody hand for him to see.
In reality, she was the one who tore her clothes because she was afraid Xavier would recognize her figure. As for showing the wound to him, it was just a ploy by her to confuse him further.
As he stared at her bloody hands, Xavier's heart ached terribly. "D*mn them! How dare they treat you like this! I'll take you to the hospital first."
When he finished, he lifted her and carried her out of the construction site.
Upon exiting the incomplete building, he noticed the men lying on the ground had escaped. It didn't bother him since he would track them down.
"Get in my car first, Winnie. I'll call for an ambulance to save the driver and Mary." Xavier bent down and carefully seated Winnie in his sports car. She nodded with teary eyes and withdrew her legs before he closed the door for her.
The moment she did that, his movements halted.
