The Sway and Slide of Love

Chapter 21

Noelle knew what Hendrix meant by that look. It was a look of warning and disdain. She also knew that Hendrix had a heart of stone under all that humbleness and gentleness.

She lowered her eyes. Her gaze landed on the papers that Hendrix had torn up and thrown away earlier. It had taken her all of her courage to hand him the agreement, but he didn't even bother to look at it. It was because he didn't care.

He didn't care how he felt, so he wouldn't care about whatever decision she'd made.

Noelle did not see Hendrix again for the next few days. She only heard from him recently at a public meeting, where he had made an appearance.

In the photograph, Hendrix was wearing a dark suit. His handsome features were as flawless as ever, complemented by the slight smile curving his lips.

It was only then that Noelle found out that he was in Doville City.

She clicked out of the news article without reading the rest of it. Then, she saw a post on Twitter asking about new updates on her comic

Noelle was a cartoonist. Her occupation wasn't respected in the upper society.

Even though painting and art appraisal were essential knowledge within the upper class, most of them were only taught about classical art and oil paintings.

Noelle's comics, which were more toward the romance gente, were not acceptable forms of art to them, even if she had a large fanbase around her work online.

Noelle replied to some of the posts and then took out her tablet to start working. Not long later, her phone lit up.noveldrama

Maxwell had texted her. "The Quinlan family is holding a party for me tomorrow night. Are you

you coming?" Noelle frowned. Just as she was about to reply, Maxwell texted again. "You'll come, won't

you? I mean, I waited for you for five hours the day before yesterday."

Noelle paused. She'd told Maxwell that she wouldn't pick him up from the airport.

However, it had been two days since then. She wouldn't know if he had actually waited for her for five hours or not.

Now that Maxwell had brought it up, she had no choice but to reply, "Alright. I'll go."

Maxwell sent her a digital invitation.

Noelle checked the time and the location, then continued working. She had timed herself well, but just as she was about to leave, Hendrix returned home.

Hendrix got out of the car. The first thing he saw was her dress. "Where are you going?"

Noelle did not answer.

The driver, Levi Smith, was already waiting for her at the entrance of the house. She opened the car door and was just about to get in when Hendrix came over and slammed the door.

Noelle's hand, which was right by the door, was almost crushed. She snatched her hand back just in time and turned to Hendrix, clenching her teeth tightly.

"Get inside the house," Hendrix said, his expression impassive.

"No," Noelle said firmly.

Hendrix produced a newspaper from somewhere and threw it at her.

It hit her shoulder with a thud and fell to the ground. The headlines stood out starkly, along with a photograph of her brawl with Ruth a few days ago.

"No? Do

"No? Do you want to be the laughingstock of the entire city?"
