Chapter 26: Nikolai
As soon I materialized in my room, I saw red. How the fuck had a wolf gotten into my room, and why was he attacking Mary. My aura lashes out, my beast wanting to destroy the wolf who had his hands all over what was ours. The words came out of my mouth before I could stop them.
“Get the fuck off my mate.”
“Mmm..mmm… mate?”the wolf stuttered, finally realizing the exact amount of danger he was in.
Mary raised her head and looked up at me with a questioning look. I knew she wasn’t going to let what I said go and I would have to explain it later, but right now I needed to deal with these damn mutts who thought they could take over my fucking throne and rape my mate. I let my beast loose, allowing him to attack the wolf.
We tore him off of Mary, and slammed him into the wall with enough force that it cracked the wall, bits and pieces falling down, exposing some of the bathroom. The wolf let out a small whine, before
retreating completely, leaving his pathetic human to finish the fight. I walked towards him and picked up his left arm, slamming my foot down to his armpits.
“Please your highness show mercy.” The man cried at me, tears running down his face.
“Did you show my human mercy when you attempted to take her for yourself.” I snarled at him before pulling his arm from his torso, causing blood to spray everywhere but I didn’t care about the mess, I wanted to tear this wolf to pieces and remove the hands that he’d used to touch what was mine.
“I have important information I can give you.” Wheezed the wolf man, his shoulder already starting to cauterize on its own thanks to his supernatural abilities.
“I don’t care what you have to say.” I snarled flashing my fangs at him. “Anything that you think might be important is shit to me.”
I reached down to grab his other arm, when the most beautiful sound, called out to me, breaking through my beast and my anger.
“Nikolai, maybe we should hear him out.” Mary whispered, as she pulled the sheet up to cover her nakedness, the tears that had been streaming down her face were now dry, but her eyes were still red from crying
“But he hurt you.” My heart tightened at my words, and regret filled me that I wasn’t there to protect her.
“He tried to hurt me.” Mary responded, “But you saved me.”

She let out a small smile trying to show me that she was okay. This woman, this human woman, was stronger than anyone I had ever met. Mary continued to speak as I studied her. “And there are more wolves in the building I heard craches before ” She took in a deen shaky hreath before continuing wolves in the building. I heard crashes before..” She took in a deep shaky breath before continuing, “Before Beta Daniels tried to attack me.”
My eyes turned into slits, my demonic vampire side showing more than my human side. This low life standing in front of me was Beta Daniels. Had the wolves tried to form a coup while I was gone? Were they trying to wage war on me? My aura filled the room, stronger now that it is ever been. Beta Daniels tried to crawl up the wall to get away from me baring his neck as a sign of surrender. But Mary, she began to stand up as she carefully wrapped the sheet around her so not to expose her body, and then she walked towards me, placing her hand on my face.
“Thank you for rescuing me Nikolai.” She whispered while cupping my cheek.
I didn’t know how to respond. Her touch calmed my vampire, allowing me to take control again. I knew then, that what I had been fighting against since I met her was true. Mary was my fated mate, and I’d do anything in the world to protect her, even if it meant risking my life and my crown. I lowered my head down and brought my lips to hers, kissing her tenderly, before turning my attention back to Beta Daniels.
“Why are you here?” I snarled at him, grabbing him by the remainder of his shirt and pulling him up to my height,
“My alpha commanded it. He knew that you would be unsuspecting, We were here to gather intel and take whatever was most precious to you.” He whimpered out, terrified of me.
My heartbeat accelerated before I had a chance to keep it in check. How did the Alpha know of Mary. I snarled showing my fangs once again. There’s no way he would’ve known about Mary unless I had a mole somewhere in my council.
“How did he know to attack today?” Mary asked, her head on a little straighter than mine.
Beta Daniels spit at Mary’s feet. “I don’t answer to you blood slave.”
I swung my arm back and slammed my fist into the wolf’s face. No one would insult my female. “Talk to the woman like that again, and I’ll make you regret it.”
The wolf had the audacity to smile at me, before his eyes glazed over, and I knew that in that moment i had made a mistake, I had showed to much emotion towards Mary, and I had forgotten that Wolves had the ability to mind link.
I hit the wolf in the face again multiple times trying to break his concentrate. “It’s too late now. I wanted to be sure I heard you correctly earlier, and now I know. He smiled smugly at me. “The Alpha will know
before the night is over, that the great King Nikolai has a weakness, his human mate. How pathetic.” He laughed out darkly, spitting blood on my feet.
My anger took over my mind of reason, I darted my arms out and wrapped my hands around the Beta’s neck, with the twist of my wrist I broke his neck, and with the tug of my arms, I pulled his head from his body, causing blood to spew everywhere. I heard a retching noise, and I dropped the Beta’s head turning towards Mary, she’d doubled over and had emptied the contents of her stomach on the floor. I walked closer to her, shielding her with my body, so she could no longer see the horror scene in front
of her.
“I am sorry Moe AparolehHocTH” I whispered into her hair as I rubbed her back trying to soothe her. “I didn’t mean to lose control, but he threatened you and I lost it.”
After emptying the entirety of her stomach contents, Mary straightened up and turned towards me, her facial expression blank.
“What did he mean by human mate?” She asked, her lip quivering as she tried to hold back her fear.
I sighed, running my hand through my hair, before I pulled her body tightly against me, leaning my head down on hers as I hugged her, needing her near me, so I could sooth my vampire and concentrate. “I will explain everything to you eventually.” I responded, and sighed as I felt her stiffen in my embrace. “I promise. But right now, I need to make sure the castle is secure. And I need to reinforce our security. What happened tonight never should have happened.”
Mary pulled back from me, her eyes filled with tears. “Are you leaving me again, Nikolai?” She asked her eyes pleading. Please check at N/ôvel(D)rama.Org.
“Only for a minute, Mog NOOB), I’ll be leaving you with my most trusted guard though, they’ll wait with you in the Queen’s quarters until I can determine the castle is safe.”
The tears started running freely down Mary’s face and I could tell that she was afraid and that the events from today had terrified her. “you’ll be safe. Kade and Nevaeh will be with you in your room. I’ll be back soon.”
She just nodded at me, her lip trembling to much for her to speak. Before I co’ld say anything more, Kade emerged from the bathroom, having opened the secret panel from the Queen’s room into the bathroom.
He took in the carnage around us, and then me holding Mary. He didn’t say anything but I could tell in his eyes that he’d want answers later,
“The castle is mostly secure.” Kade stated speaking up. “The wolves that remain are locked in the dungeon, they’ve been injected with wolfsbane so they cant shift.”
“Thank you Kade.” I responded, humbled that my friend could lend a piece of security in the moment. I turned my attention to Mary. “I’ll be back. Kade will take care of you while I am gone. You can trust him.”
Mary nodded her head, before turning towards Kade and walking with him into the bathroom. I quickly sealed the panel that let my room enter the bathroom, before leaving my room, headed towards the dungeons. I would get answers tonight, even if I had to torture every wolf in the dungeon.
“Draq, Dru.” I called to my dragon seers through telepathy. “ I need you to stay in the wolves territory longer. Make up any excuse you can. Alpha Ash is planning something, and I need to know what.”
