Chapter 3
“It’s good that Grandpa likes it.”
Emma Johnson replied with a smile, a hint of bitterness welling up in her heart as her mind drifted back to the first time she’d cooked for Grandpa Carter.
“It’s a shame Ethan doesn’t know any better and just pisses Grandpa off!” Mr. Carter Sr. glared at Ethan Carter once more, then turned his head to face Emma, a kind look on his face again, “Emma, be honest with me, when are you going to have children?”
She had a child now, but she couldn’t tell her grandfather. Otherwise, Grandpa would definitely force Ethan to stay and never allow him to divorce her.
Emma didn’t want to do that, so she smiled and replied, “Grandpa, the child thing can’t be rushed.”
Mr. Carter Sr. sighed. He also understood that the matter of having a child depends on fate, so he did not continue this topic.
Olivia Brooks watched Mr. Carter Sr. shower Emma with affection and couldn’t help but feel angry. This is just a meal, how much is it worth? She had spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on the Da Hong Pao that she had asked someone to buy for her! The old man is really blind, not knowing the value of things!
After dinner, Olivia wanted to stay, but she didn’t expect Mr. Carter Sr. to politely ask her to leave: “It’s getting late. Ethan, I don’t trust Olivia to go home alone. I’ll arrange for a driver to take her.”
Olivia’s idea of staying the night was thwarted. All text © NôvelD(r)a'ma.Org.
As Ethan escorted her out, the old man’s warning voice came through, “After you’ve sent Olivia out, come to the study. Grandpa has something to say to you.”
In the small courtyard by the door, Olivia’s face was full of complaint. “Ethan, Grandpa Carter doesn’t seem to like me very much.”
“It doesn’t matter if he likes you or not,” Ethan comforted her.
But Olivia looked nervous. “I’m sure he doesn’t know that Emma and you are getting divorced, and if he did, he wouldn’t approve. It’s all my fault. We lost our baby in an accident and now we can’t get pregnant again.”
Her body was clearly incapable of having another child; otherwise, she wouldn’t have let Ethan marry Emma three years ago. And Emma, who was fine, was not pregnant, which made Ethan feel guilty about her all the time.
Ethan looked down at Olivia, his eyes full of apologies and heartache. “Don’t worry, he doesn’t care about the baby.”
Olivia was moved and hugged him. “Ethan, I’m so grateful to you! You’ve been so good to me!”
On the second floor by the window, Emma quietly watched the scene, deep pain welling up in her eyes. Three years of gambling, but initially lost nothing. Even if the heart is like steel, it shatters into pieces under repeated blows.
Night fell, and Emma had fallen asleep when she suddenly felt someone approaching. She didn’t open her eyes and was pressed on the bed.
Emma was so scared that she almost screamed until she felt the familiar scent. Then she realized it was Ethan. She didn’t know what the old man had talked to him about in the study, but at the moment, Ethan was in a state of agitation, and his actions became rough as he directly tore open her pajamas.
Warm skin exposed to the cold air made Emma shiver. She quickly grabbed his legs that were about to go down, her breathing becoming sharp. “Ethan, what are you doing?!”
“Me!”
He spat out the word coldly, his sharp eyes locked on her face. “I just want the baby. You fulfill me!”
“You’re crazy!” Emma hurriedly shielded herself. If it was before, she would never refuse Ethan’s closeness, but at this moment, she already had a baby in her belly and could never let anything happen to the baby!
