Chapter 16
Chapter 16
The moment his sister went out of the office, Lewis let out some air, replaying the scene in his head for a couple of seconds. He sighed, not believing he just did what he thought he would never be able to do in his life. That is to stand against his elder sister.
Not being able to go back to work immediately because of the little excitement he was feeling, Lewis reached for his phone on the desk beside him and dialed the fourth number on his call log.
“Hey,” The masculine voice came through.
“I did it, Joe.” Lewis was smiling ear to ear This text is © NôvelDrama/.Org.
He chuckled, “You did what?”
“I finally stood up to Natasha. I put her in her place. I can’t believe I really did that.”
“Wow! Finally!!!”
“I’m so proud of you, man. How did it happen? Where exactly? Isn’t she still meant to be in Paris?”
“She came back earlier I guess. She appeared in my office unannounced as usual. I love the fact that she was pissed by the securities and my secretary before She got to me. I told them not to let her in so I love that She was harassed.”
“Never have I seen Natasha so pissed and the fact that I made her feel that way gave me so much joy. She wasn’t expecting something like that from me and that made me happy. I didn’t give her any attention and demanded that She leave my office.”
“I’m so proud of you, man. I wish I was there to see her reaction. This is huge for you.”
Lewis smiled. ‘I know”
“What did she eventually say?” Joe couldn’t help but ask.
“She could hardly say anything reasonable. She was just shocked and pissed that She kept asking what She did to offend me.”
“To be honest, I was shaky on the inside but I’m glad I was able to put out a strong facade. I didn’t give her any audience.”
“But She said She was going to come back at me. That’s the only thing I’m scared of.” Lewis’s tone changed from that of happiness to worry.
“She insisted I break up my engagement with Katherine and if I don’t She would do it for me. I’m scared She might approach Kathie. You know how crazy Natasha can be.”
“True. Since you’ve been able to show her that you’re done being her puppet, I think the next step is coming out to Katherine. You’ve proposed and trust me, getting married to her based on lies or any hidden secrets is something you’ll ever regret doing.”
“You need to tell Katherine about it as soon as you can. Because there’s nothing more terrible than hearing it from Natasha and trust Natasha to always say the wrong thing. We all know how terrible and manipulative She could be.”
Lewis sighed. “I’m afraid Kathie will want nothing to do with me anymore when she learns the truth.”
“I’ll be frank with you, Lewis. The truth is sickening but nothing sucks more than being kept in the dark. Just do your part by opening up to your fiancee.. She deserves to know the truth. Then whatever comes out of it, Just know that life fucked you up but you did everything within your powerr to make things right.”
“But Katherine is a very nice person. I’m sure she will understand you. It may not be immediately but I know she will come around.”
“I really hope so. Her kids and her mother detest me already. I hope telling her the truth will not make her turn her back on me forever.”
“Just do your path, bro, and be brave while doing it.”
“Also, you need to act fast before Natasha complicates things.”
“I’ll try to do so as soon as possible,” Lewis concluded.
“How do you feel now that you’ve been able to confront your sister?” Joe asked
“Really great and a bit relieved.”
“Good. I’m sure you will feel total relief when you make everything known to Kathie.”
“I hope so. That’s if it isn’t followed by a breakup.”
“She will most likely be demanding you give her space for a while so prepare your mind for that. It might be a hard time but you’re stronger than you think, bro. In the end, you will thank yourself for doing the right thing.”
“Thank you, Joe. Thank you for not judging me.”
“I’ve got you, dude. I have to get back to work. We will talk later, right?”
“Yes, we will.”
They said their goodbye after which they ended the call.
Lewis was about getting back to work mode when his phone buzzed. Taking a glance at the phone to see who was calling, his lips curved into a smile. He slid to answer, then brought the device to his ear.
“Hi, babe,”
“My love, hope I’m not interfering with your work?”
“No honey. I’m happy to hear from you. You good?”
“Yes, I’m fine. Thank you for the gifts. They came at the right time to put a smile on my face. I love them.”
“I’m glad you like them and I promise to always put a smile on your face.”
Katherine smiled where she was.
“Your shift is for afternoon, right? How are the triplets?”
“Yes, honey. Afternoon shift.”
“They are fine. I dropped them off not too long ago since they insisted.”
“They know about last night?”
Katherine was silent.
“Babe. You know we are one now. There’s no point hiding anything from me.”
She sighed.
“Yes. They saw the ring on my finger and asked how it got there so I told them.”
“They were not happy about it, right?” He mumbled.
“They are just kids, Lewis.” Kathie said, hoping to calm him down since She could hear the worry in his voice.
“They are probably afraid of you collecting all of my attention once we get married. But I’m certain that they will come around.” She didn’t fail to notice the worry in his voice so She was trying to calm him as best as She could.
“Are you sure about that?”
“Of course, babe. I raised them all alone, remember? And apart from work, they’ve literally been the center of attraction in my life. And with you in the picture it’s normal for them to see you as a threat; someone that wants to take their mommy away from them. Just give them time to process it all. They will definitely come around.”
“You fought for me. I would love you to do the same for them too.” Her voice came out in a pleading way.
“Sure, babe. Anything for you guys.”
“Seemed you called at the right time. I have something to discuss with you.”
“Sure, what is it?”
“It will be better if we do that in person.”
“Is everything okay?” Kathie asked, already getting worried. If there was anything she was sure of, it was that there was nothing more dangerous than face-to-face conversations. “I can come to your office if you want me to.” She offered.
“Everything is fine, babe. Will you be free for lunch tomorrow?”
“Sure. I’ll make time.”
“Thank you and one last thing. If Natasha ever reaches out to you, can you please ignore her?”
Things were silent between the duo for a few seconds.
