Passion 9
Xavier listened silently. His gaze darkened, but he didn't respond to Tristan's derogatory words.
It was precisely because of his indulgence that no one had treated or respected Yvette as a person. Be it Tristan, Shannon, Mark, or even the household staff at the manor, no one had shown her any reard. Tristan left in a hurry after he received a phone call.
After he left, Xavier subconsciously picked up his phone. He noticed a missed call from Yvette.
He dialed back but was greeted by a monotonous, pre- recorded female voice. "Sorry. The number you have dialed is currently unavailable. Please try again later.”
Xavier threw his phone aside in annoyance. Then, he stood up and walked over to the floor-to-ceiling window before lighting a cigarette.
What Yvette had said earlier at dawn about her regrets echoed in his mind.
A bitter taste rose in Xavier's throat. As he coughed heavily twice, he heard a woman's voice from behind him. "You should smoke less, Xav. It's bad for your health."
Xavier's heart skipped a beat, thinking that Yvette had returned. But when he turned around, he saw Daphne, who
was dressed like the stereotypical ideal wife.
A fleeting glint flashed in his eyes, and he asked detachedly, Why are you here?"
Daphne looked at him with a very tender expression. " Madam Shannon sent me. She heard about how Yvette has found someone else to marry. So, she asked me to tell you not to think too much about it. Four years ago, Shannon and Tristan had been in a car together when a rival company had ambushed them.
As a result, Shannon had lost a lot of blood. At that time, the hospital had been short o.. type O blood, which happened to be Yvette's blood type.
After making sure Tristan had been taken care of, Yvette had donated her blood to Shannon. However, she had fainted afterward due to exhaustion.
Back then, the Snyders had been Daphne's benefactors. Hence, she had done everything she could to be in Yvette's good books.
Upon learning that Yvette was in the hospital, Daphne had gone there to take care of her. That was when she had coincidentally found out about Yvette's selfless act of rescuing Tristan and Shannon. Due to a series of fateful misunderstandings, no one was aware that Daphne had taken credit for Yvette's life-saving grace during that hospital stay.
Daphne had thought that Xavier would surely marry her since she was his mother's and friend's savior.
She had never thought that Shannon would take the initiative to propose a marriage alliance with the Snyders to advance Xavier's career and obtain more power.
Shannon had proposed it even though she had known that Yvette had a hearing problem!
Now, with Xavier refusing to have anything to do with Yvette and the two having no children despite three years of marriage, Shannon had begun to lower her standards. She had agreed for Daphne to get together with Xavier.
She had told Daphne that. as long as the latter got pregnant, she could get married to ier and be a part of the LaneContentt bel0ngs to N0ve/lDrâ/ma.O(r)g!
family.
"Who's the person she found?" Xavier asked Daphne.
Over the phone, Yvette had said that she wouldn't marry anyone for 300 million dollars. Xavier refused to believe that Yvette's feelings for him over the years had all been an act,
too.
Daphne hesitated to tell him the truth.
"I don't know," she said. She knew that if she told Xavier that Yvette was being forced to marry an old man, it would certainly soften his heart and evoke sympathy from him.
"Since you don't know, don't ever bring it up again," Xavier warned.
Daphne was stunned for a moment. Then, she nodded.
Xavier was distracted for the rest of the day.
At midnight, Yvette was breathing with difficulty through a respirator in the ICU ward of Tirion Hospital.

Thanks to Claude swiftly taking her to the hospital for treatment, she had been pulled back from the brink of death. Yvette mustered her strength to comfort Viola, who was silently sobbing beside her. "It doesn't hurt. Don't cry..." Yvette was a timid and cowardly person. Her choice to take sleeping pills to end her life was indicative of that. She felt even more guil when she saw that Viola seemed to have aged overnight. She felt like she had let Viola down. Viola choked up as she held Yvette's hand tightly. "Yvvy, listen to me. Get well and live a good life from now on, okay?" Yvette couldn't promise her that.
In the hospital corridor, a doctor reported, "Sir, we conducted another examination after the surgery. We discovered something-she is two weeks pregnant."
