Chapter 6 In One’s Blood
Chapter 6 In One’s Blood
The sight of a man sitting in the car was spotted through a car window that was halfway-rolled down —
he was none other than Liam Croft.
With a pair of striking deep-set eyes, a short and sleek hairstyle, a well-shaved beard, and a defined
jawline, he brought out both his charm and a look of indifference.
"Hey! Why are you gaping at the handsome guy?" Catching sight of Amber's peculiar reaction, Emma
chortled at her and flicked her arm.
Obviously, Liam noticed the both of them as well because his eyes and Amber’s met for a split-second. Property © of NôvelDrama.Org.
Amber was hesitating whether to greet him when the Bentley's window had slowly rolled up.
"Come on! The light’s turning red soon!" Everyone else had already crossed to the other side of the
road, leaving Emma and Amber the only pedestrians still lingering on the road. Panicking, Emma
dragged Amber by the arm and ran forward.
Fortunately, they made it to the other side of the road safely just before the red light came on.
Emma patted her chest and huffed, taking credit for her action earlier on. "Amber, what were you
doing? Your feet were planted on the ground when you saw that handsome guy. Luckily, I'm smart and
quick to respond. Otherwise, both of us would’ve been scolded by the driver just now!"
Feeling suffocated and overwhelmed by emotions, Amber found it taxing to explain herself. After
hearing Emma’s words, it took her a long time to recover before she whispered in a low voice, "Did you
see the man in the Bentley earlier on?"
"Of course, I did! Very clearly too if I might add and he was one good-looking man! So manly! If I could
ever find a boyfriend as handsome as him in the future, I’m afraid it’d only be a dream that I would
never want to wake up from!" Emma was on the verge of drooling as she imagined her fantasy.
Amber furrowed her brows. "That man was Liam Croft."
After a momentary pause, Emma screeched in shock, "Amber! Why didn't you tell me earlier? If I knew
it was him, I would’ve asked him for an autograph!"
"Cut it off. Liam is a highly reputable CEO. Why would he acknowledge a nobody like you?" Amber
replied sullenly and continued on her way ahead.
"Wait! Wait a minute! It's not surprising that Liam didn’t acknowledge me, but I’m pretty sure he saw
you just now! Why didn’t he greet you?" Emma asked, puzzled by Liam’s reaction.
"He thinks of himself as nobility, that's why!" said Amber. At last, she was still discontented about the
unexpected occurrence.
Suddenly, Amber was taken back in time to when Liam threw the Hermès coat away. Realization
dawned on her at once. “How ridiculous it is for me to even think about greeting Liam earlier on: he
couldn’t care less about me!”
In his eyes, she was as lowly as a worm even though she was his nominal fiancée and they were about
to be wedded legally. Perhaps she was even lowlier than a worm, deemed unworthy of being trampled
down by him.
Though he radiated the qualities of a respectful yet unapproachable gentleman, Liam's superiority
complex was still in his blood, it was in his nature.
His poise was impeccable, his presence distinctive and powerful.
…
Amber’s cell phone blared as a call came in halfway through the self-study session.
She caught the sight of the caller’s name that was being displayed on the screen and stared at it with a
bewildered expression — Liam was contacting her!
“Didn't he pretend to be a stranger a while ago?” she thought in confusion.
Quickly composing herself, Amber hastily greeted, "Hello?"
"Amber Currie, our engagement party will be held at the Saint Laurent Hotel tomorrow at noon. Don't
forget to show up." As always, Liam was speaking with an apathetic tone that oozed calmness and
dispassionateness.
Even though he was talking to her about their wedding reception, he expressed himself as if he was
discussing the weather of the day.
After freezing for a brief second, Amber imitated his tone and said, "I think it’d be more ideal if we
signed the contract first."
Her voice of indifference was even more unfeeling than Liam’s, conveying her utter lack of concern.
Though it was a shame that she couldn’t take after his sense of superiority that was in his blood.
"Sure. I'll be waiting for you at the office. Remember to bring along your ID."
Liam answered straightforwardly with concise.
