Chapter 35 Do You Still Want a Divorce?

Josephine’s heart stopped for a moment. By instinct, she stealthily retrieved the charger from her table and plugged in her phone.

She only needed two minutes to charge her phone, as long as she could turn it on, would be enough.

But things didn’t go as planned. Her phone had only been charged for less than a minute when the sound of running water from the bathroom stopped.

She quickly unplugged the charger and ran toward the door.

“Stop right there!”

Before she could exit the bedroom, Josephine was stopped in her tracks. She bit her lip and clutched the charger tightly, too afraid to turn around. All content is © N0velDrama.Org.

She could hear footsteps approaching her from behind, followed by a light chuckle.

His laugh had an underlying hint of disdain and scorn. Josephine’s face flushed red, feeling embarrassed and ashamed.

“Turn around.”

Josephine clenched her fist tighter around the charger and forced herself to face Lewis. Her gaze met with his sculpted chest. Lewis was naked, fresh from the shower, with a towel wrapped around his waist.

Water was still dripping down his wet hair and defined muscles.

“I thought you were determined to leave? Why did you come back?” Lewis asked mockingly.

Josephine looked up and showed him the charger in her hand.

Lewis’s smile faded slightly, and he continued in an icy tone, “You have some guts. But don’t forget, I bought the phone for you. Who gave you the right to take it?”

Josephine lowered her gaze, gripping the charger.

She needed to borrow money.

Without a phone or money, how could she keep this child?

Lewis was obviously cutting her off from receiving any help.

Josephine couldn’t help but begin to doubt whether she could really survive if she

left the mansion.

Last night’s events were still fresh in her mind. Just thinking about it made a chill run down her spine.

Lewis extended his outstretched palm to Josephine, his meaning clear.

Josephine put her hands behind her back, trying to hide the fact that she had her phone and charger.

Her futile attempt made Lewis chuckle again. “Give it to me.”

Josephine closed her eyes in resignation. She slowly took out the phone and charger, placing them in his palm.

Lewis toyed with the phone in his hands for a moment before glancing up at Josephine. “You can leave now.”

Josephine lowered her head and turned to leave.

He continued fiddling with Josephine’s phone, staring at her slender figure with a stony gaze as she left.

As Josephine left the mansion, a surge of heartache and sadness overwhelmed her. Josephine couldn’t hold back her tears any longer and sat down on the steps of the mansion, cradling her belly.

She did not have the resources or capability to keep this child.

Josephine knew she didn’t deserve her baby.

She couldn’t even survive on her own, let alone be a mother.

The baby in her belly probably didn’t want her as a mother either.

She buried her head in her knees and cried her heart out uncontrollably.

However, she couldn’t make a sound or vent her sadness.

Illuminated by the sun’s rays, Josephine was curled up at the steps like a tiny creature, sitting there all alone.

She had walked all day on an empty stomach.

At this time, she was so tired and hungry that she could not remember how she lost consciousness.

Josephine drifted off to sleep, dreaming about her and Lewis when they were younger.

In the dream, young Lewis was a tall lad who was dressed in a crisp white shirt. He

was always calm and composed.

Every day after school, Lewis would wait for her at the school gate.

Whenever he caught sight of her, he would tilt his head and smile, his eyes shining.

At that time, he was already very popular. Countless girls were crazy for his attention, but he only had eyes for her.

He was her hero, always extending a helping hand when she was in trouble.

It felt wrong for Josephine to even look into his eyes, that was how much she admired him.

As Josephine was still young and naive, she didn’t know what love was, but wherever she looked, she was reminded of Lewis.

Her heart was filled with memories of each moment they spent together.

Despite that, whenever he drew the line between the both of them by saying that they were only siblings, all her fantasies would be shattered.

Josephine was ashamed of her infatuation with Lewis. She felt that her romantic feelings for him had tainted their friendship.

Her love was destined to be hidden and suppressed, unworthy to be expressed to the world.

Finally, Josephine opened her eyes.

Overhead, the bright lights dazzled her so that she had to close her eyes for a brief moment before opening them again.

Turning her head, Josephine saw that she was in her own familiar bedroom. Lewis. was gone.

After waking up from the dream, she was overcome with a sense of lingering sadness, making her heart ache with sorrow and grief.

Josephine propped herself up and found a sanitary pad in the drawer.

Just as she was about to go to the bathroom, the bedroom door opened suddenly.

Lewis walked in, startling Josephine. She was holding the sanitary pad tightly in her hand.

Lewis glanced at what she held in her hand, but he didn’t say anything about it.

“Since you’re awake, come down and have some food.”

With that, he turned around and left.

Josephine pressed her lips together and went to the bathroom.

To her relief, her bleeding had stopped.

Blinking back tears of joy, she hoped that her child was safe.

Josephine changed the sanitary pad, washed her hands, and went downstairs.

In the dining room, Lewis was dressed casually and ladling out a bowl of soup.

Josephine thought that she was still dreaming. She rubbed her eyes and took a good look. Indeed, he was cooking.

Did Lewis personally cook the dishes on the table?

Her heart thumping nervously, Josephine walked over to the table and sat down. She stared at the bowl of soup in front of her, feeling a little confused.

She had never seen Lewis cook before. How could he do it?

Seeing that she was in a daze, Lewis spoke up, “Aren’t you hungry?”

Josephine came to her senses and quickly took a spoonful. It was surprisingly delicious!

She looked at Lewis in amazement.

Lewis wiped his hands with a napkin. “Why are you so surprised? I had someone to prepare the meal.”

Josephine lowered her head and ate her meal in silence. As expected, she had overestimated him.

Josephine stuffed herself with the food on the table as she was starving.

On the other hand, Lewis didn’t eat much. Most of the time, he was watching her eat throughout the meal.

After Josephine finished her meal, she got up and cleared the table out of habit.

When she was done with the dishes, Lewis had already gone to the living room.

Josephine hesitated for a moment. Lewis probably wanted to talk to her since her didn’t go to the study room.

Subdued, she walked to the living room and stood in front of Lewis.

With an indifferent expression, he gestured for Josephine to sit down.

Josephine fidgeted with her hands nervously before sitting across from him, waiting for him to speak.

“Do you still want a divorce?” he asked.

Josephine hung her head. She was unsure of how to answer the question.

The events last night had undoubtedly traumatized her.

Now that she was back in this familiar environment and hearing his voice, she had second thoughts about her decision.

Josephine had thought about burying her head in the sand so that she could remain in her comfort zone, albeit deluding herself.

If she didn’t ask for too much, this was indeed the best choice for her.

Although Lewis didn’t love her, he treated her so well that she couldn’t find any fault with him.

Lewis took out the divorce agreement and placed it in front of her.

“You have one minute to think about it,” he said, setting a timer on his watch.

After that, Lewis crossed his legs and leaned back into the sofa, his gaze fixated on her.

Josephine stared at the divorce agreement blankly.

Her eyes skimmed over rows of words on the divorce agreement, but she could not comprehend a single one.

“You have thirty seconds left,” Lewis reminded her.

Josephine pursed her lips and picked up a pen on the table.

She took the divorce agreement and flipped to the signature line on the last page.

With trembling fingers, she clenched the pen tightly, hovering over the line.

Lewis looked at her intently with an unreadable expression on his face. More accurately, he was watching the movements of her pen.
