CHAPTER 175
When she left, He went crazy
Chapter 175: He Was the Really Jerry Hammer
I hadn’t even had a chance to speak before Claire exploded with anger.
“Who gave you the right to come into my yard and chase away guests?” she demanded, glaring at Skylar.
“Claire, it’s okay,” I interjected softly, remembering Jerry’s advice about Claire’s delicate health. I needed to diffuse the situation quickly. “I was planning to leave anyway. Jerry should be bringing Ms. Harris back to see you soon.”
In a moment like this, when the family was coming together, an outsider like me had no place here.
Claire wanted to persuade me to stay, but seeing my insistence, she held back.
I had packed my luggage before coming downstairs, so I quickly grabbed my suitcase and headed back down. Skylar escorted me out of the yard, and once we were out of Claire’s sight, she spoke with open disdain. “Unless it’s absolutely necessary, don’t come back. Our family isn’t something just anyone can climb up to!”
I didn’t stop walking or look at Skylar, but responded calmly. “Mrs. Harris. I know you hate me because you want to get rid of me for your precious daughter. We’ve been on opposite sides from the start. But let me tell you, I only caught Mrs. Harris’s eye by chance. I have no interest in climbing up to your family.”
Skylar didn’t believe me at all, her eyes on the hand pushing my suitcase. “Who knows what you’re really thinking? That bracelet was given to you by Mrs. Harris, wasn’t it?”
Inodded. “Yes.”
Skylar sneered contemptuously, “Even beggars on the street wouldn’t act like you!”
I couldn’t hold back my temper any longer and replied coldly, “And you? Are you always this aggressive and condescending?”
“Hope Royston!” Skylar hadn’t expected me to talk back, and her face turned cold. “Don’t think that just because you have Mrs. Harris, I won’t dare to do anything to you!”
“What do you want to do to me?!” I challenged, glancing at the snow that had fallen the night before. “Make me kneel in the snow again? Your precious daughter has done plenty of bad things to be exposed, hasn’t she?”
Skylar’s meticulously made-up eyes glared at me, teeth clenched in anger. “So it really was you who did it last time!”
“Have a guess.” I said indifferently, refusing to keep up with her pace as I strode away, pushing my suitcase.
This boldness was inspired by what Jerry had said after saving me from the snow that day. Whether or not I admitted it, Skylar wouldn’t show me any mercy. I might as well confirm her suspicions, making her and Kimberly more cautious. No matter how much they wanted to harm me, they’d have to consider their reputation.
After leaving the Harris family estate, I was about to call a cab when the butler came running out. He said Claire was worried and insisted on arranging a driver to take me.
On the way out of Maple Valley, my thoughts were scattered. I sent a message to Elissa, asking if she had arrived in

Crystal City yet.
Elissa’s plan for the holidays was to visit Crystal City, hoping for a romantic encounter. Because of this, I had agreed to help Jerry deal with his parents in Maple Valley during the holidays.
Just after sending the message, the car radio suddenly announced, “There has been a multi-car accident on the highway from Maple Valley to Jacquar, causing severe congestion. The road will be temporarily closed. Please be cautious on the slippery roads.”
The driver hesitated, slowly stepping on the brakes. “Ms. Royston…”
I understood and reassured him. “Please take me to a nearby hotel. Thank you.”
It was the holiday season, with snow and road closures. Taking a detour would take an unknown amount of time, and everyone wanted to get back to their families for the holidays.
As luck would have it, the nearest hotel was the one Jerry had booked for me last time. I didn’t want to fuss anymore, so I bit the bullet and booked a room.
I got the room key, and it turned out to be the same room as before.
“Hope! You’re back in Jacquar!” As soon as I turned on the heater in the room, Elissa’s call came through.
“Not yet. I thought I would be there by noon, but the road is closed,” I told her, feeling a bit helpless.
Elissa let out a huge sigh of relief. “Thank goodness! Where are you? Send me your location.”
I thought for a moment. “You came to Maple Valley?”
“Yes!” Elissa’s voice was bright but tinged with anger. “I had a flight at noon, but when I saw the news about that bastard, Jerry Hammer, I was afraid he’d leave you alone for the holidays, so I drove to Maple Valley. I just got off the
highway and checked my phone.”
My eyes welled up with tears, and I sent my location to Elissa. “What about Crystal City? No more romantic
encounters?”
Elissa said casually, “What’s more important, a romantic encounter or you? I’m not letting you spend the holidays
alone.”
Then she laughed. “Besides, I heard Maple Valley is pretty good for romantic encounters too.”
I couldn’t help but chuckle. “Thank you very much! I’ll cover all the food, drinks, and fun to show my appreciation.”
Actually, Elissa and I were so close that pooling our money together was second nature to us. Neither of us cared about who spent what.
But Elissa, hearing this, played along. “Ms. Royston, you’re so generous! I’ll come to you right away.”Belongs to © n0velDrama.Org.
As soon as Elissa arrived, my mood improved significantly.

Elissa stood by the window, admiring the snowy scenery of Maple Valley. “What do you think about that news about Jerry Hammer?”
I was taken aback. “What do you mean? This is none of my business.”
“Don’t pretend with me.” Elissa playfully poked my head. “He’s interested in you, so you must not be completely indifferent, right?”
“Well, I care a little bit.” I admitted, curling up on the sofa and holding my fingers a little apart. “But I don’t have to, if you know what I am saying.”I had long outgrown the phase of blindly chasing after love.
“That’s good.” Elissa nodded and sat down next to me. “He’s waited for that Ms. Harris for so many years. If you still blindly pursue him, you’re just asking for trouble.”
I smiled. “I know. I have a clear understanding.”
As much as Jerry and I had a history, we seemed ultimately unlikely.
Unable to stay put, Elissa dragged me out to explore the scenic spots in Maple Valley. The tourism industry here had been booming these past couple of years, making the place bustling and lively.
Jerry called me, but I didn’t hear it over the clamor. When I called back, he didn’t answer.
In the evening, after Elissa and I changed clothes at the hotel, we went to the bar downstairs. I was feeling a mix of
emotions, and so was Elissa.
Ivan was getting married today. Although Elissa and Ivan had broken up, our social circles overlapped. My social media was flooded with Ivan’s wedding photos. It was indeed quite sad to see one’s ex tying the knot with someone else.
As we drank, the people in front of me started to blur. Fortunately, we were in the hotel, with security everywhere; it
felt safe.
Elissa, also emotional, drank a lot. She reeked of alcohol and leaned over to look at me. “Are you drunk?”
I shook my head vigorously. “No, not drunk.”
Elissa shouted, “Then let’s keep drinking. We won’t stop until we’re drunk. To hell with those bastards!”
“Yes!” I hiccuped. “It’s okay, Elissa. Ivan Garcia doesn’t deserve you at all.”
Saying that, I tried to stand up and hug Elissa, but I stumbled, tripping over my own feet and falling to the side.
Unexpectedly, Christopher caught me steadily.
I pushed him away and looked back at Christopher in a daze, feeling dizzy, only seeing a face swaying in front of me. “Jerry Hammer?” I asked.
Christopher’s face darkened at my mistake. He grabbed my arm to keep me from falling and looked at Elissa, his voice deep. “Are you okay?”

Elissa waved her hand dismissively, “Of course, I’m fine! Mr. Hammer, you should take her back to her room first!”
Christopher’s expression soured even more.
Standing next to him, I couldn’t help but shiver. “Jerry Hammer, why do you look so much like that guy today?”
Christopher looked at me. “Like who?”
1 replied, “Christopher Valencer.”
He asked, “What floor are you on?”
*19!” I said, rummaging through my bag and handing him my room key.
As we exited the elevator, I half-opened my eyes and belatedly realized something. “Why do you have time to come
find me?”
Christopher pulled me out of the elevator. “Why wouldn’t I have time?”
“Didn’t you find Bella Harris?” As I spoke, I felt a sharp gaze and looked ahead to see Jerry casually leaning against my room door. I was suddenly stunned.
Who was the man holding my arm then?
I seemed to sober up for a moment, shook my head, and looked at Christopher beside me with wide eyes. Suddenly breaking free from his hand, I plopped down on the ground.
