White Wolf’s Curse

Chapter 8

UNKNOWN

Her scent drew me in. I caught it when I was out on an evening run. When I saw her I was less than thrilled. Sure she is pretty in her own right but not exactly the goddess I was hoping for. Still her scent pulled me to her. The closer I got the prettier she got. I can see she tries to downplay it. Dark makeup, her hair is darker than it should be. I was compelled to lick her cheek. The taste of her skin was amazing. When she started talking to me I was amazed to say the least.

Only when that wolf stood between us did it make sense. She is one of them. That pack. How could she be part of that pack? She is most likely my mate and she is part of that pack. I can’t even accept her. This is bull shit. Maybe we can find a way to make it work. She didn’t seem to recognize me as the enemy. Maybe she doesn’t see us that way. This could be interesting.

I followed them back to the edge of their land. I can see her through the tree clearing. She is defending me. Definitely a quizzical creature. I can see that determined look when she looks back to the woods. She will be here again. She will come to me again. I just need to wait for her. I figure I probably have some time.

I ran all the way back to my house, shifting in the back room set up just for us to do that. After I slip on a pair of sweats I head in. My mom is cooking in the kitchen. She seems off in her own little world. “What’s up mom?”

She smiles at me. “Oh, nothing. Just your sister ranting again. How her world is falling apart and it is all someone else’s fault. I am so glad that I never had to deal with that with you. How was your run?”

“Interesting. I ran into a new girl. She seems new to town, maybe all of this.”Content provided by NôvelDrama.Org.

“Was she shifted?”

“No, but she knew about it.” I started laughing. “She was talking to me. She didn’t even realize that I couldn’t answer for a few minutes. Well beyond yes and no’s. She tried to pet me too.” I smile a little at her form coming towards me. She had such confidence. After she got rid of her initial shock that is.

My mom smiled. “Well, aren’t you glad you took a year off from school then. It sounds like you met your mate.”

I groan. “There is just one problem with that.”

“What’s that?”

“She’s one of them.” My mom literally stopped breathing.

“This is not good.”

“It was weird though. It was like she didn’t know anything about it. She even defended me to her uncle and her dad. At least I think it was her dad. He was in his fur. I am pretty sure I heard her call him Dad though. She protected me. It doesn’t make sense.”

She looks confused too. “You’re right, that doesn’t make sense. Why would she defend you if she didn’t feel anything?”

“I’m not sure what she felt. We only talked for a moment. Barely five minutes.”

My mom looks even more confused. “Yet she still defended you. This girl is perplexing. We should stay clear though. Anything with that pack is just bad news.”

“But what if she is different? What if she and I could put an end to this? This misunderstanding? Isn’t it worth it?”

“If it was anyone but you, I would say yes, but you are my son and I don’t think it is best for you to do that.”

“What do you mean?”

“You have a bit of a temper.” She looks at me like I should already know this.

“Thanks mom, I got it. You don’t think I can do it.” I turn away from her. I can do it. I’ll show her.

“It’s complicated.”

I just left. I am not handling my mom right now. She can have her opinion, but it doesn’t mean a damn thing to me. I am starting to think that she is my mate for a reason.
