Chapter 14: A Burden
Chapter 14: A Burden
Jasmine POV
"Can we talk?" I was busy writing my business proposal when Diego came into my office. I smiled at him while he sat on the quest chair.
I don't know why he came here. All of a sudden, he looked serious.
"What's the matter? Where is David?" I asked him to wait for him to enter the room, but he didn't show up.
"He's still in school. I will pick him up later. "He said that which made me nod. I heard him let out a heavy sigh.
"Why did you come here all of a sudden? "I sound curious; he only came here when it was really an important matter.
"David told me that he wants to go back to", I cut him off. I messed up my hair and leaned my back on the chair. I personally do not want to go there, but what can I do? My son wants to go back to the place where I grew up.
"Diego, I know. I promise never to go there. My son accidentally saw that picture, and he's begging me to bring him there, "I explained to him. His expression changed, and it became serious.
I don't know why he's acting weird.
"Besides, I just found out that I have a business there, and I can't appear there without you. You know that, and I won't just let my son stay here while we are far away from him." I hope he understands. They knew Diego's company well. We are both helping each other make it even more successful.
"I almost forgot, I just- nothing," he said and stood up.
"Wait, are you mad? If you want, I could cancel that business, and I will talk to my son" I don't know what got into him and why he's acting strange.
"I'm not mad, Jasmine, I just- damn it!" He messed up his hair, which shocked me. What's wrong with him?
I went closer to him and touched his shoulder. I knew we were both busy, and I knew he was busier than I was.
"What's really your problem, Diego?" I calmed myself. He looked at me straight into my eyes. I waited for his words, but he didn't dare open his mouth and say a word.Content bel0ngs to Nôvel(D)r/a/ma.Org.
"How can we fix it if you don't want to tell me? You help me every time, but when you have your own problem, you don't want to share it with me. Don't you think you're being unfair to me?" I was mad, not because he came here and asked me about going back to that country. I'm mad because he's being unfair.
When I was the one who had a problem, he kept on asking about it and helping me. But when he was the one facing a struggle, he didn't dare to share it with me.
"There's no solution to my problem, Jasmine. I don't think you can help me with it," he directly said. I was offended, I admit. But why does it feel like he's underestimating me? Why is it like he doesn't trust me?
"Are you telling me right now that I wouldn't be able to help you just like the way you're helping me?" I laughed sarcastically.
"No-" I cut him off. I looked at him seriously. I didn't want to fight with him, and I kept on avoiding fighting with him.
"I know that from the start, I've been a burden to you, Diego, especially now that I have David with me. But I can help you too. It feels like you don't trust me that much." I turned around to go back to my chair when he held my wrist.
"I never saw both of you as a burden, Jasmine; you knew that. Even when I went back to that time, I decided to help you. I will always choose to help you. "His voice became soft as he looked at both of our hands.
I don't know what's on his mind. I can't read it.
"Yes, because that's Diane's last
wish, right? Do you think I couldn't notice you having problems all day every time we were together? You seemed to be thinking so deeply that you even forgot that you were with us. These past few days, I have always caught you not into yourself. What's really your problem, Diego?" I couldn't stop myself from asking him. He held both of my hands, figuring out how to tell me the reason for his actions.
I'm also dying to know what it is. It's just that I hated it when I saw him like that.
"Yes, I did it because Diane told me to, but I neve regret helping you and your son. I treated David like my own, and, never regretted it. I couldn't tell you, knowing that you might change. You may not treat me just like how you treated me now, Jasmine, "he said and looked away. I don't get him.
I have no reason to hate him or to not treat him like before. Why would I do that?
"What do you mean? Of course, I am not. Why would I? Diego, you help me a lot. You helped me raise my son, giving him the love of a father even though it's not your responsibility to do so. You

sacrificed too much for me. Why would I change the way I'm treating you? I don't understand you." I held both of his hands. I don't have any idea what is making him think of that.
"Jaz, I'm not against us coming back to that place. I also wanted David to see and explore that place. "He said that made me smile.
"Then tell me, Diego, what's wrong?" He sighs and looks into my eyes.
"I know it's not the right time to tell you this, Jasmine. I've been trying to tell you this for years, but I couldn't." My heart began to pound so fast.
I remember the same scene like this before,
"Jasmine, I like you. No, I love you. I'm sorry, I tried to stop it but I couldn't."
