Alexa

It had been a week since my presentation and my last meeting with Arthur. He had the perfect opportunity to get back at me by telling Mr. Dickens the truth, but he didn’t. And I owed him a debt of gratitude. I spent most of the week transferring two apartments into his name. After all, they originally belonged to him and his mother.

I wish I could tell him about it, because I have no idea where he is now. I hope he shows up at the clinic trying to visit Emma one more time, or decides to check on his nephew himself, so I can talk to him and sign the papers.

I called Mr. Adams an hour ago and asked him to let Arthur see Emma, and he agreed.

I hadn’t stopped thinking that night about the mysterious man who showed up at the presentation and then just disappeared. What did his words mean? Why did he think I would accept the challenge and wait for him to reappear in my life? It’s all very strange, but interesting. I’m sure Arthur doesn’t miss me, so why can’t I forget about him, too, and think of someone else who is crazier and more intriguing?

“Miss Neves, may I come in?” There was a knock on my office door.

– Of course,” I answered my housekeeper. Then she opened the door and came in quietly, holding in her hands a small envelope which appeared to be addressed to me.

“I found it under the mat by the front door, with your name written on it. Really, there is a mailbox for that. Why do you have to be like that?” she was indignant, and I was already guessing who had left me this message.

“Go,” I told her, as she held out the red envelope in my hands.

As soon as Leila was out the door, I opened the envelope, took out a piece of paper folded in half and began to read.

” I told you that our communication would depend on me alone.

I have hundreds of thousands of questions for you, but the main one I want to ask you when we meet in person. I’m sure you don’t mind. Because you have a lot of questions for me, too, and you want answers to them. I want to see you at 20 Park Avenue, Suite 10 at 9:00 p. m.

P. S.

I’m sure you’re thinking of me! August is a hot month, but I’m sure it will be hotter with you. Sleep on the letter as soon as you read it.”

Who the hell is he! The tips of my toes are already starting to tingle demanding a discharge after reading it.

Shit! Haven’t I had enough of Arthur, who I’ve been dreaming about like a madwoman? There’s another one that’s been bugging me. That’s it, I’m going to see this mysterious stranger tonight, and I’m going to find out. I’m beginning to like his game! This belongs to NôvelDrama.Org.

Arthur

It’s been a week since the night I spent with Evelyn, we haven’t seen each other again. Strangely, I thought this woman wouldn’t get away from me so quickly, but when I woke up this morning, I didn’t find her in my bed.

And I was glad. I tried to get my mind off Alex, but I couldn’t. She wouldn’t get out of my head for a minute. And I was beginning to dislike this obsession.

I went to child welfare, trying to find out my rights to Rudy, but I was told that until Emma gets out of the hospital, Alex, as Michael’s real wife, is the direct guardian of Rudy.

“I am Emma’s own brother!”

“I’ve told you for the hundredth time, Mr. Clark, you can’t take him away from Alex.”

“I’ll pay you. I have money, Mr. Richards.”

“That’s out of the question. You’ve been coming to see us almost three days in a row, and I tell you the same thing,” he answered, sighing heavily, smoking another cigar.

“Though there is one way. You may think it over.”

“What is it?”

“You could marry Miss Neves. Only then, you could raise the child together.”

“Are you out of your mind?” I jumped up sharply from my chair.

“As you wish,” he said as he finished his cigarette and put it out.

” Don’t come here anymore,” he asked me quietly, as he had no strength to quarrel with me anymore.

“Okay, whatever you say,” I sneered before I left his office.

Now all that was left was an attempt to see Emma, and if they wouldn’t let me this time, I’d blow it all to hell! – I thought and headed for the psychiatric hospital, hailing a cab.

Forty minutes later I was there.

“Hello,” I addressed the receptionist as I entered the building.

“Hello, Mr. Clark,” she remembered me, not surprisingly.

“I want to see my sister.”

“I know Mr. Adams has agreed to see you, he’s not in the hospital right now, but our other doctor will take you to her.”

Did I hear you right? Am I really gonna see Emma today?

“Hello, Mr. Clark. My name is Shannon, and I can take you to your sister,” a woman in her fifties, wearing a white coat, addressed me.

“Okay,” I agreed, and we began to climb the stairs to the third floor.

“Room 340,” she pointed out as she led me to the door and walked in the opposite direction.

I pushed the door open and stepped in quietly. When I saw Emma curled up on the bed, I was speechless.

She was so lifeless, I felt so sorry for her.

“Sis, darling,” I rushed to hug her, but she rose sharply from the bed and pushed me away.

“Get away! Get away!” she started screaming and hitting me with her hands as she pounced on

“Emma, it’s me. They let me go!” I tried to talk to her, but it was pointless.

“I don’t know you.”

“I am your brother, Emma. I’m Arthur.”

“No, Arthur’s just a little boy, and I’m just a little girl. And you’re the grown uncle my mother told me to stay away from! ”

“Emma,” I tried to grab her hand, but she snatched it away and slapped my cheek again.

“I’m afraid of you, Uncle Arthur. Go away!” she screamed like a lunatic, until two orderlies ran into the room and calmed her down by putting a death shirt on her. She tried to bite them, but they gagged her with blue, thick duct tape and sedated her.

“We’re going to have to ask you to leave.”

“What’s wrong with her?” I asked when I saw Dr. Shannon enter the room.

“Total memory loss. She thinks she’s eight years old. She’s stuck at that age, I don’t even know how to explain it.”

“Is it treatable?” I asked, hoping to hear the truth.

“I don’t know,” when I heard her answer, I just walked silently out of the room, hoping to get away from this place.

I knew where I had to go next, and that’s where I was headed!
