Chapter 602 Realization
Chapter 602 Realization
"Why don't you stand in your daughter's shoes?" Derek had no affection for his mother, who had only raised him for a few years. At this moment, he was even more cold-hearted. "Riley is your biological daughter. She has suffered such serious harm, but instead of being angry and worried, all you care about is your family and your future. Is this how a mother should behave?"
He then dialed Marcus' phone.
Seeing that, Lydia became even more anxious. "Derek, what are you doing?"
He pushed her away and had a conversation with Marcus, asking him to come back immediately.
Though she tried to stop him multiple times, she couldn't interrupt his conversation with Marcus. She could only watch as he told Marcus everything that had happened at home. Original content from NôvelDrama.Org.
Tears streamed down her face, and she pounded his chest with all her strength. "What are you trying to do? You… You…"
"I just want to seek justice for Riley." He grabbed her wrist and stared straight into her eyes. "Mom, I just want to seek justice for Riley. Why are you reacting so strongly? Please don't tell me that you were the one who tampered with Riley's capsules."
"You're talking nonsense." She shivered and denied it vehemently. "Are you crazy? Riley is my biological daughter. How could I harm her?"
"If it's not you, then is it Marcus or Zoe?" He was so angry that he even refused to refer to Marcus as Mr. Lynch.
"No, it's not them," she said. "Your Mr. Lynch is an upright gentleman, and Zoe is kind and sensible. They wouldn't harm Riley."
"Since it's not you, Marcus, or Zoe, why won't you let me report it to the police? In this household, besides the three of you, there are only servants. If it's not you or them who harmed Riley, then it must be the servants. As Riley's mother, don't you want to catch the person who harmed her?" said Derek.
"I…" Lydia stammered, at a loss for words. "Allergies are just a minor issue. I don't want to cause unrest in the family because of such a small matter. Even if it was done by a servant, who knows how the news will spread? Those gossipmongers might even falsely accuse Mr. Lynch and Zoe. How can Riley and I continue to interact with them then?"
"It's fine," Derek said calmly, looking into her eyes. "I've already reported it to the police. They will definitely catch the culprit. By then, there will be evidence and witnesses, and no one can spread false rumors."
Upon hearing the word 'culprit,' her legs almost gave way, and she could barely support her body. Her limbs trembled, and fine beads of cold sweat appeared on her forehead. "What nonsense are you talking about? Allergies are just a minor issue. The police shouldn't bother with such a small matter."
Even though Riley firmly believed that her mother would not harm her, she could tell that something was off with Lydia. Nothing seems right; everything seems off.
