Chapter 606 You're Terrifying
Chapter 606 You're Terrifying
After she signed it, the pen and paper slipped from her grasp as her hands and legs grew weak.
She covered her face and cried out in pain.
Things shouldn't have turned out like this.
Things shouldn't have unfolded in this manner.
Riley was her obedient and filial biological daughter. How could she do something so cruel and heartless?
Everything she did was for Riley's own good and for the sake of their family. How could she treat her like this?
Heartless.
They were all heartless and ungrateful!
Riley picked up the paper, confirmed its accuracy, and carefully put it away before she looked at Derek.
Derek understood what she was thinking even though she didn't say a word. He gently grabbed her shoulder and offered, "Let's go. I will take you home."
Riley smiled at him and put on a mask. "Thank you, Derek."
Fortunately, she still had a loving brother.
Because she had a way out, someone to rely on, and someone who loved her, she had the confidence to sever ties with Lydia.
If she only had Lydia, everything that happened today would have been a devastating blow to her.
"Silly girl." Derek patted her head. "Why are you thanking me? I'm your brother!"
Riley smiled.
Lydia was still her biological mother. But…that didn't mean a thing.
Most of the time, blood ties represented a strong bond.
But there were always exceptions.
There were always some people who didn't love their blood relatives, only themselves.
Fortunately, her brother and her mother were not the same kind of people.
Derek put his arm around Riley's shoulders and apologized to the two police officers. "Sorry for the trouble. Is there anything we can do for you?"
"No need," the leading police officer said. "When you have difficulties, find the police. It's our duty to help. If there's anything else in the future, feel free to call us."
"Thank you! Sorry for the trouble!" Derek nodded apologetically to the two officers.
The two police officers didn't mind and waved their hands casually before leaving.
Even though they didn't really need the police's help this time, it wasn't a false report. They had just resolved the situation themselves.
Mediating conflicts was also part of the police's job. As they didn't think Derek and his sister had done anything wrong, they didn't have any negative feelings.
After seeing off the two police officers, Derek looked at the Caesar brothers and Martin. "Shall we go? I'll treat you to a meal!"
He had heard Kieran mention his sister-in-law's renowned law office abroad, where the staff were all exceptional talents.
At that time, he just listened to it as gossip and didn't take it to heart. But now that he saw it with his own eyes, he realized that what Kieran said was true.
These people were indeed capable.
After coming to Lynch Residence, they didn't waste any time before they quickly found out the truth.
It was true that specialization led to success. He believed it now.
In his eyes, the situation was completely chaotic, but the staff at Oasis Law Office handled it with ease.
Kieran was right; the people at Oasis Law Office were truly exceptional talents! Belonging © NôvelDram/a.Org.
Derek and Riley let Rowan and the other two go first while they followed behind.
"Riley..." Marcus suddenly spoke up.
Riley turned to look at him.
Marcus wanted to say something to persuade her, but when the words reached his lips, he felt too ashamed to say them.
The words turned into "Let's pack up."
Not that things had come to this point, Riley wouldn't stay even if he tried to persuade her.
Until now, he was still in a daze, feeling like he was in a dream.
His mind filled with disbelief. He didn't understand how things had turned out like this.
"It's fine," Riley replied calmly, "I don't want any of her things."
Derek appreciatively squeezed her shoulder and gave her a comforting smile.
Marcus flushed at her answer. "Riley, neither Zoe nor I knew about the things your mother did. I can't understand why she did what she did. She must have lost her mind. I..."
Riley looked at Marcus with a complicated gaze and didn't know what to say for a while.
Marcus was a relatively responsible stepfather.
He didn't show much concern or care, but at least he provided for her and never mistreated her.
Marcus didn't owe her anything. He had raised her all these years, and she should be grateful to him.
However, the relationship between her and Marcus was all because of Lydia.
Since she had cut off ties with Lydia, did she still need to have any contact with Marcus in the future?
Derek comfortingly patted her as he turned to Marcus with a sincere gaze. "Mr. Lynch, thank you for your years of dedication to Riley. Riley has spent a lot of money from the Lynch Family over the years. After I take her back, I will repay you double after calculating it. We don't blame you for anything, but after this, I hope we can go our separate ways and not have any further contact. I believe it's for the best for everyone."
For Marcus, this might be a bit unfair.
However, this was the only thing he could do in order to minimize the harm done to his sister.
He hoped that Riley could forget the days at the Lynch Residence and completely cut off all ties with the Lynch Family, starting anew.
Marcus remained silent for a long time before he replied, disheartened, "Alright, I understand. I'm just glad that you don't blame me for what happened."
With things ending up like this, he couldn't face these two children anymore.
Derek didn't say anything more and left with Riley.
Everyone had left, leaving only Marcus and Lydia.
Lydia had her hands over her face as she sobbed her heart out.
Marcus, on the other hand, walked over and sat down on the edge of the couch without a word.
The room was too quiet, and the silence made Lydia's heart pound as an unprecedented uneasiness washed over her.
Forgetting to cry, she looked up at Marcus. "Darling..."
Marcus looked back at her silently for a while. "Why did you do it?" he eventually asked.
His voice was dripping with confusion.
No matter how hard he thought about it, he couldn't understand why Lydia did this.
Could it be that Riley wasn't Lydia's biological daughter but someone she picked up?
"I did it for the sake of our family." Lydia sobbed. "Both sisters fell in love with the same man. If Riley really marries him, how will Zoe face Riley and him in the future?"
"You disfigured Riley just because of this?" Marcus' gaze was filled with disbelief. "Riley is your daughter!"
"I didn't disfigure Riley!" Lydia defended herself. "It's just an allergic reaction. Riley's face will recover once Timothy breaks up with her."
Marcus stared at her intently, remaining silent for a long time before softly uttering, "Lydia, after all these years we have been together, I'm only now realizing how terrifying you can be..."
Marcus' voice was gentle, but it felt like a heavy blow to Lydia's head, leaving her dizzy and pale.
"Terrifying? No, no..." She desperately shook her head. "I'm not scary. I'm doing it for Riley and our family's sake..."
Marcus slowly mentioned, "If you believe that the reason you disfigured Riley with pollen is for the sake of her and the family's well-being, what terrible things will you do for my and Zoe's sake in the future?"
"N-No..." Frightened, Lydia rushed over and grabbed Marcus' arms while crying out loud. "I'm sorry! I'm sorry I lied... I wasn't doing it for Riley's sake... I was…I was afraid that you would blame me..."
