Your Love Is But a Dream (Clara and Wren)

Chapter 238

Carlisle frowned, looking displeased. He was about to speak when Natty suddenly jumped up and walked over to his side.

"Mr. Zachman." Natty glanced at the others in the conference room and whispered, "Mrs. Zachman has arrived. The front desk said they couldn't stop her, and she's already in the elevator."

Carlisle hadn't expected Katrina to actually go through with it and dared to come to the office to look for him. His expression instantly turned indescribably grim.

The others immediately sensed the shift in the atmosphere and quickly lowered their heads, pretending to be busy with their work. None of them dared to look in Carlisle's direction.

Carlisle suppressed his fury, mindful of the others in the room, and refrained from exploding right then and there.

He cast an icy glance at Natty and instructed in a low voice, "Handle it. You know what to do, right?"

"Understood, Mr. Zachman." Natty nodded reluctantly.

"Go on, then," he said.

Natty immediately turned and walked out of the conference room, not daring to waste any time.noveldrama

Carlisle watched her leave, and a shadow passed over his eyes.

When he noticed the others sneaking occasional glances at him, he tapped the table with an icy look and said, "Let's continue the meeting."

...

As soon as Natty stepped out of the conference room, a young woman in business attire immediately approached her. She spoke urgently, "Ms. Hale, Mrs. Zachman..."

Natty raised a hand to interrupt, not slowing down her steps as she headed toward the elevator. "I already know. You can go back. I'll handle this."

"Very well, Ms. Hale," the young woman said and didn't follow her.

Natty had no time to deal with her and quickly continued forward. As she reached the corner, she saw the elevator doors open, and a familiar figure stepped out.

She immediately put on a smile and stepped forward. "Hello, Mrs. Zachman."

Both their companies had some business dealings in the past, and Katrina had known Natty from her visits. When she saw Natty standing outside the elevator, she had an idea of what was going on and couldn't help but sneer inwardly.

Carlisle was really going to great lengths to avoid her.

"Where's Carlisle? I want to see him." Katrina got straight to the point and looked

at Natty with unwavering determination in her eyes.

The smile on Natty's face stiffened

as she lied under pressure, "You came at an unfortunate time, Mrs. Zachman Mr. Zachman just stepped out, and I'm not sure when he will be back. How about you head back for now? I'll be sure to notify you as soon as he returns.

She just wanted to get Katrina out of there as quickly as possible. If she allowed her to barge in and cause a scene, her career would be over.

Katrina crossed her arms, looking at Natty with a smile that didn't quite reach her eyes. "Ms. Hale, do you really need to make up this story with me? We spoke on the phone just half an hour ago, and you knew I was coming.

"Now, of all times, you're telling me he's not here. Do you think I'll believe that?"

Natty's face flushed with embarrassment and guilt from being caught red-handed on the spot. Internally, she was groaning in distress.

She knew it was an unconvincing lie, but who would dare to defy Carlisle's orders? All she could do was bite the bullet and continue to handle the situation.

"Mrs. Zachman, please don't make this harder for me." Natty forced a stiff smile. "I'm just an employee, and I don't get to decide when Mr. Zachman leaves the office. Maybe you could come back another day?"

Seeing that Natty wouldn't budge, Katrina knew it was pointless to keep arguing. She decided not to waste any more time with her. With the folder containing the divorce papers in hand, she strode toward Carlisle's office in her high heels.

Natty turned pale from fright when she saw Katrina heading inside. She quickly followed to stop her. "Mrs. Zachman, Mr. Zachman is really not in the office."

"I'll see for myself whether he's in or not." Katrina didn't want to make things difficult for Natty. Shooting her a glance, she said, "Just tell him you couldn't stop me. He won't take it out on you over something so trivial."

Natty grew even more anxious when she heard that, but Katrina gave her no time to react. She walked straight to the office door and pushed it open.

Although she couldn't stop her, Natty instead felt relieved. Carlisle was in a board meeting, so even if Katrina barged into his office, she wouldn't find him there.
