A Successful Career After Divorce

Chapter 26 Not a Trifled Person

“Brendon, I knew you were always the best to me!”

“Alright, enough of acting like kids!” Brendon indulged her tantrum, a faint smile playing on his lips. Shannon gently took hold of Brendon’s hand, tilting her chin upward, her doe-like eyes innocent yet alluring, her red lips slightly parted. “Brendon, you promised, you would always spoil me,” she said.

“Hmm!” Brendon lowered his head to look at the document and casually responded.

“By the way, Brendon… Last time I saw Ranita getting close to Mr. Webster, does she like him?”

Brendon felt inexplicably unhappy in his heart and said, “Don’t talk nonsense.”

“Brendon, I’m not just talking nonsense here! Ranita is divorced and all alone. If she could find a boyfriend to take care of her, then both you and I would feel more at ease!” Shannon looked worried for Ranita, as if she was her own daughter.

“She doesn’t like Dylan!” Brendon said in a flat tone as he opened the door and got out of the car. Shannon had to hurry to catch up with him.

This was a very stylish restaurant that had been listed in the Michelin Guide, so both the dishes and service were excellent.Exclusive content © by Nô(v)el/Dr/ama.Org.

Suddenly, Shannon’s eyes lit up as she tugged on Brendon’s arm. “Brendon, is that Ranita over there? She’s also eating here!”

Brendon fixed his gaze and immediately recognized Ranita.

The woman was laughing, her eyes curved like a bridge and her gaze bright as she spoke with her head lowered. Every now and then, she looked up at the other person. Under the light, her facial features were very clear and vivid, like a blooming white peony – fresh and incredibly alluring.

Brendon’s heart gave a hard thump.

“Brendon, who is that man? I feel like I recognize his back…” Shannon didn’t mind getting involved and held onto Brendon’s arm, saying, “Why don’t we go say hello?”

“No!” Brendon refused.

But as luck would have it, their table was right next to Ranita’s.

So they looked at each other, and everyone fell silent at the same time.

“Brendon?” Steve Pearson was the first to react, pinching his gold-rimmed glasses and asking in a cold voice, “What a coincidence, are you here for dinner with Shannon?”

Steve ran a private hospital. He was also a genius doctor and very handsome, which made him extremely popular!

“Hey, Steve!” Everyone in the circle knew each other, so Shannon naturally knew Steve. “Steve, are you going on a date with Ranita? This is the first time I’ve seen you eat with a girl since we were kids!” Shannon teased with a hint of meaning.

Steve didn’t respond but instead pushed his glasses up and said, “Brendon, take her out for a meal quickly! I need to talk to Ranita.”

“Ranita?” Brendon thought, finding it oddly easy to say her name. He grumbled inwardly.

“Oh my, you’re really nervous about Ranita, aren’t you, Steve?” Shannon leaned against Brendon as if she had no bones. “We won’t disturb you two anymore. Ranita, Brendon and I are going to eat.”

Although the table was next to theirs, the design inside was very good. There was a screen in the middle with some green plants blocking it. Speaking softly wouldn’t affect anyone around them.

“You and Brendon…” Steve pinched his glasses and looked at Ranita with interest. “Shannon is not an easy person to deal with.”

“Don’t mention them.” Ranita narrowed her eyes and changed the subject: “By the way, this is your report that you asked me to proofread. I’ve already corrected it for you.”

Steve had asked her to proofread his latest academic research results which needed to be published in a professional journal. There were many difficult-to-understand professional terms inside and foreign language sentence structures were different from their language; once there was an error, the meaning would be completely different. Therefore Steve asked for her help.
