Chapter 4
Pain coursed through my bones as the guards slammed me against the hard floor of the cold cell with enough force to crack open
a skull, it was sheer luck that mine was still intact.
I tried not to make it obvious that I was scared for my life but I was sure as hell my continued shivering gave me away. The guards circled around me with angry snarls and protruded claws. They could rip me apart any minute and I wouldn’t be able to do anything about it.
I was weak from all the running. My bones felt like they would fall apart if I moved them too much and my heart was beating like it was about to rip out of my chest. Why did I have to run in the wrong direction? How do I explain to these scary looking beastly men that I didn’t trespa** into their territory on purpose and they should just let it go and free me?”Please check at N/ôvel(D)rama.Org.
“1-1-I can explain.” I stuttered as I inched back until I was backed up against the wall where it would be easy for them to just pin me to the wall and rip my head off.
“This is all a misunderstanding. I added at the thought of my head being detached from my body but all I got I response was a harsh growl. One of the guards raised his hand and I instinctively wrapped my hand around my stomach. I couldn’t let anything happen to my baby, I wouldn’t allow it. I would fight even if I had to do so with my last breath.
I waited for the hit but it never came, I looked up to see his hand caught in the air glaring down at me like I was some sort of wild animal.
“Don’t hit her, let’s wait for orders” Another said, he seemed to be the head of the crew because his words seemed to be law among the three of them.
I could breathe a sigh of relief, at least I had a little more time before I would be beheaded.
“You are not supposed to be here. The head of the guards said, looking down at me like I was beneath him. He looked around my age but he had the aura of someone older, someone that was a force to be reckoned with.
“I didn’t know I wasn’t supposed to be here. I was running away from people that wanted to hurt me.” I explained hoping I could evoke some sort of pity from him but it seemed to anger him more.
“You’re a liar, no one would dare hurt a Luna of any pack. The guard growled, eyes red with rage. I started to panic, my hands began to shake as I fought against the urge to break down in tears everything that was going on was just too much for me to handle. He looked like he could kill me just for trying to defend myself.
“I’m not lying but I understand how you might find it hard to believe. Even I myself am still trying to wrap my head around the whole thing but-
“Shut up!” he said cutting me off. “Did your mate send you here as a spy?” he growled and the thought of Dax and what he did to me mad my blood boil.
“He’s not my mate! At least not anymore! So just cut the crap and let me the f**k out of here! I don’t belong here!” I screamed at the top of my lungs and he sent me crashing against the ground with a harsh slap. My cheek stung and I could taste blood in my mouth.
“I’ll be back when you’re ready to talk with a little more sense. He spat angrily and they stomped out of the room. I looked around the cell and only then did I notice that I wasn’t really alone. My heart skipped a beat.
The cell was much colder than before and I could see my breath in the air. The floor felt cold and hard underneath me and I started to shiver uncontrollably. I just wanted to be safe. All I knew was that it was cold and I was in pain and I needed to get out of here as soon as I got the chance to.
“It’s okay.” A quiet voice from the corner of the room said, it sounded like a female voice. “Its okay, they’re gone now.” She reassured me and I felt much more at ease but I still couldn’t let my guard down completely. There were complete strangers and I didn’t exactly think a cell was the best place to make friends. I’d managed to make it this far, I couldn’t let anything kappen to my baby.
I sat at the far edge of the cell, in a dark corner with my hands wrapped around my leg and my legs to my chest. I was freezing.
“We’re not going to hurt you.” She said again and I knew she was only trying to put me at ease but it only made me even more wary of her. It felt like she was just trying to get me to get my guard down and that didn’t sit well with me.
“I ended up here because I trusted a man, I’m not making the same mistake twice by trusting someone else so I’d appreciate it if you just left me alone.” I snapped and I heard a soft laugh that morphed into a full fledged chuckle.
“Funny how we ended up here for the same reason. I guess men are really the issue, aren’t they? You know sometimes, I wish we could just rid the world of men and continue with our lives. She laughed but she already had me at we’re here for the same reason.
I was curious and for some reason, it felt good to know that there was someone who could relate to my pain.
“He was my mate, my only true mate but it turns out, I was the only one who thought so.” She said and I felt tears sting my eyes. I was probably the only one that thought that Dax and I were inseparable, I was so sure that our love was never going to end. I was so sure that he loved me than anyone in the whole world.
“I didn’t get your name.” I said and she laughed and gave me the corniest reply in the history of corniness.
“I didn’t throw it.” She laughed carelessly and I could feel myselfiletting my guard down. She didn’t seem like the kind of person to hurt a fly. Why she was here, I was about to find out.
“You’ve been here for long haven’t you?” I found myself asking and she threw her head back in laughter. She laughed even harder and her laugh was somewhat contagious that I forgot about the pain that I was feeling for a second.
“My name is Ella,” she finally answered. “And her name is Grace. She said pointing to the sleeping beauty in the corner and I nodded.
“My name is Kira.” I said too and she smiled. It was then that I really saw her. She was f***g beautiful Behind all the dirt smudged across her smooth skin and the stench that was starting to have a colour, she was one of the most beautiful women I’d ever seen.
“You’re beautiful,” I found myself saying and she smiled,
“Too bad, you’re the only that sees it. Perhaps it’s only visible in a cell” she laughed again and I knew too well that that laugh was coming from a place of pain.
“Tell me about your mate.”
“Where do I even begin? I loved that ***d man like my life depended on it and the first chance he got, he left me for another woman.” She sighed and crossed her legs in front of her getting comfortable.
“We were mated and things were going fine, just when it felt like I was on top of the world, I came crashing right down, like the goddess was playing a really mean trick with my life and did it hurt like hell. A woman came and claimed to be his first mate and he attested to it. I thought I was his first mate! Turns out I wasn’t. Things got out of hand and she sold me to thugs and I ended up here.”
I didn’t know what to say now that I heard her story. I didn’t know how to console ber or if she could even be consoled. She had gone through almost that same thing as I had, maybe even worse and I knee too well that the last thing I needed at the moment was consolation.
“Let’s get out of here. I blurted and her eyes went wide.
That’s a very ambitious thought, don’t you think? No one has ever made it out of this cell, at least not alive.” She warned but I knew 100 well that her words weren’t going to stop me. I needed to live a good life and I wasn’t going to do so in a cell.
The guards came back to give us food and I noticed that they took turns guarding the cell. The only thing that resembled an escape route was the tiny window with no burglary at the corner of the room. I peeped outside and I understood why there was no rod to stop us from leaping because leaping would be the same thing as dying. The cell we were in was several stories up.
The night passed peacefully like I didn’t loose my husband to a lying piece of shit and I was locked up in a cell in an unknown land. The day went by pretty fast too, the guards didn’t deem it necessary to bring by food or water.
The sun was down again before I knew it and I was getting frustrated. I couldn’t stay in this f****g cell anymore.
“Bye.” I said to Ella before leaping out the window and leaving my fate to the goddess.
