Dear Contract Wife, You Are Mine

Chapter 31

Maybelline Walter POV

I felt so exhausted after a long ride to the company. We were stuck in a traffic jam for a few minutes before we were able to make it out.

“Are you ok? Do you want to go to the hospital?” I was stunned when Miles asked with concern written all over him just because I groaned tiredly.

“I’m fine,” I managed to reply to him.

“What are you going to do now that you don’t have a secretary anymore? I can still take…”

“We agreed that you won’t be working while we are married, so don’t think of that…” He paused, then looked up from his desktop to me.

“I will do something about it in a few days. The work is not difficult for me to handle,” I slowly nodded and turned my face away.

My phone beeped, and I checked to see a text from Lily.

‘Are you there?’

‘Hmm. I’m here. What’s up?’

‘Do you think Miguel is mad at me because I kissed him the last time? He has been giving me cold shoulders and avoiding me’ I could feel the sadness in her text, but I couldn’t help the scoff that tore through my throat. For fuck’s sake, Miguel is not showing interest in her, why don’t she just give up already? Well, it was the last thing I would say to my dear friend, knowing that it would hurt her.

‘Just give him some time. I think he will come around’ I tried to sound as persuasive as I could. I wasn’t caught up for this, but what would I have done when my dear friend won’t stop getting me involved in her love life?

‘Are you sure? Do you think I should get him a gift and apologize to him?’ Her next text made me curse angrily, and Miles looked at me.

“Are you ok?” He raised his eyebrows as he looked at me, and I slowly nodded.

“Hmm,” He finally returned his attention to what he was doing, and I sighed briefly.

‘Don’t get him a gift and don’t apologize to him. Just leave things be, and it’ll happen naturally’ I had already sent the message before I knew what I said didn’t make sense. I mean what the fuck would happen naturally?

Well, I was glad that did magic as she agreed to me, and I breathed out in relief.

“Am I going to sit here doing nothing?” I looked at Miles and asked even though I knew that was the case. That is what I have been doing for the past few days since I’ve been coming to the office. I just sit here doing nothing.

“You can stare at me if you feel bored,” He looked at me and smiled.

“You wish!” I mumbled and rolled my eyes.

“You can take a walk if you feel bored. It’s almost lunchtime. We can go out and have lunch together later,” He checked his wristwatch as he said to me. I barely waited for him to finish his statement before I stood up and hurried out of the office.

The sound of my ringing phone made me pause along the walkway minutes later, and I checked to see that it was Miles’s secretary who was sacked a few days ago. What does she want now?

“How is the progress of my…”

“I think courtesy demands that you say hi when you call someone,” I cut her off with an eye roll, and I heard her scoff.

“Whatever! Hi! So, what about what we discussed? Have you talked to Mr. Miles about me?” I wonder why I didn’t see how rude she was that day. She really deserved to be sacked, and no way I was going to talk to Miles to take her back.

“I don’t think Mr. Miles would want to work with someone so rude. You should find somewhere else to work, and don’t disturb my phone again,” I ended the call and blocked her number immediately. I hate rude people and it’s always difficult to stand them.

“So rude,” I huffed and shook my head before I proceeded to the rooftop to get fresh air.

I was forced to stop when I passed the restroom and heard my name being mentioned by an unfamiliar voice.

“I think she is having an affair with Mr. Miles. She must be so proud now,”

“Gosh! I hate her so much. Natalie was sacked because of her. She must be so happy right now,”

“She is a slut. Of course, she seduced Mr. Miles. It’s obvious she’s not his type,” My fingers clenched on their own and waves of anger spurred through me as I stood there and listened to them gossiping about me. A part of me wanted to just let go of it, but fuck it! I wasn’t someone to let go of something like that, so I pushed the door open and barged in on them.

I wasn’t so surprised when I saw Ashley Turner and Nancy Hudson from the marketing department. It was the two annoying bitches in the company.

“May… It’s you? I didn’t know you were here,” Ashley smiled nervously as she scratched the back of her neck.

“Of course, you didn’t,” I scoffed and tucked my hair gently behind my ear.

“May… It’s not what you think, ok? We are just concerned about you. Mr. Miles is not someone you can seduce…” Nancy tried to touch me as she switched to her hypocritical attitude, but I pushed her roughly and she slumped on the ground.

“What if I seduced Mr. Miles? Are you angry because your seduction on him didn’t work?” I crossed my arms on my chest and smirked at them.

“May…”

“I’m warming you two… If you don’t want to be fired the same way Natalie was fired, then you better steer clear off my path and don’t get on my bad side,” I stated, and they nodded immediately.

“I’m so sorry… I didn’t mean to…”

“You should also pray that I’m in a good mood. I will get you thrown out of the company with just a snap of my fingers, so you should be careful,” And with that, I walked out of the bathroom and slammed the door angrily behind me.

“Hmph!” Going to the rooftop wasn’t something to consider anymore as my mood was ruined, so I headed back to meet Miles in the office. I found him talking to someone on the phone when I walked inside.

“Hmm,” He hummed before he ended the call, and turned his attention to me.

“May? Are you ok?” He stood up from his seat and walked over to me.

“Hmm…” My heart flustered as he held my waist and pulled me close out of the blue moon, our bodies collided against each other.

“Wh… what are you…”

“You don’t look happy. Did something happen out there? Did someone get on your nerves?” His question made me recall what happened earlier, and I bit my bottom lip. How could they accuse me of seducing him?

“I’m fine…” I stepped away from him and turned my face away.Text property © Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org.

“May…” He wanted to touch me, but I shook my head, and he paused.

“Are you sure you are fine?”

“Hmm. You should go continue your work,” I walked over to the sofa and sat on it.

I felt his gaze on me, but I tried not to look in his direction.

“Check the CCTV footage of the company and send it to me immediately,” I was forced to raise my gaze, and I found him holding his phone to his ear. What does he need the CCTV footage for?

“Miles…”

“Since you are not going to tell me what happened back there, I will find out about it myself,” He stated coldly, and my jaw dropped to the ground. Is he kidding me?
