Chapter 32
“Don’t make me repeat myself… What the hell did you do to May?” Miles snapped angrily as he slammed his hands on the table, making Nancy and Ashley flinched. They fondled with their fingers nervously.
Ashley opened her mouth to talk, but words failed her, and she ended up swallowing nothing. Waves of regret hit her hard at that moment. She shouldn’t have messed with May.
“Forgive us, Mr. Miles… We didn’t intend to do that. Please,” Nancy went on her knees and pleaded with tears in her eyes.
“Please forgive us, Sir,” Ashley also knelt, and Miles scoffed.
“I will ask again… What did you say to May? Why was she looking sad?” Miles slammed his hands on the desk yet again, keen on knowing what happened in the restroom. After he checked the CCTV footage, he saw when May halted upon arriving at the front of the restroom, when she went inside, and when she came out looking all sad. He was sure that they did or said something that must’ve pissed her off in there even though May didn’t want to say something about it.
“I told you they said nothing to me. I just went in there to…” Just a glance from Miles was all it took for May to swallow her words, regretting her actions immediately. She shouldn’t have gotten herself involved knowing he didn’t regard her that much.
“I’m sorry,” She mumbled and stepped back.
Miles took a deep breath, trying hard to hold in his anger when I’m short he was failing at it. Because of them, he had hurt May yet again, and he didn’t want anything more to deal with these two.
“You know what… Get the hell out of my office, and out of my company for good. I don’t want to ever see you again,” Miles stated coldly with finality in his voice, and Ashley’s jaw dropped to the ground, while Nancy’s face went blank.
“Si… Sir… You can’t do that… I… I…” Ashley’s eyes were filled with tears as she crawled on the ground.
“Please don’t fire me. This is the only…”
“One more word from you, and I will make sure today will be your last day of working in any company. Don’t get me pissed and just get the hell out of my sight,” Miles yelled at the top of his voice.
May knew that there was no reason to step in to help them, knowing he wouldn’t listen to her. He had already made his decision, and trying to get him to change his mind was like subjecting herself to ridicule in the presence of Ashley and Nancy.
“May… Please help me,” Tears poured down Ashley’s cheeks as she crawled to May and pleaded with her.
“I won’t talk about you with anyone again, I promise. Please don’t let him fire me,” Ashley shook her head. After staying for three years without a source of income, she was lucky enough to get this job one year ago, and losing it now was the last thing she wanted. She couldn’t afford to, knowing getting another one would be hell for her.
“Uhm… Mr. Miles… Can you please…” May paused and sulked on her lips, her heart pounding hard against her chest. As much as she was touched by Ashley’s tears and didn’t want her to be sacked or be the reason that they would be sacked, she could barely do something about it. She was just a contract wife who had no right to make decisions for Miles or make him change his mind about doing something.
“Just do it, May. They should at least see that you tried to help,” She told herself and inhaled deeply.
“Can you please pardon them? Just this once, please,” She finally spoke up, and Miles closed his eyes and breathed in. He really wanted to deal with these two for hurting his woman, but what could he do now that she wanted them released?
For the next few seconds, Miles stared into space. He wasn’t someone who would change his mind because someone wanted him to, but he was caught in a tight corner now and didn’t have a choice but to give in.
“You should thank your luck that she is willing to let this go. Try this next time, and you both will be kissing your job goodbye,” May didn’t expect that he was going to listen to her, but then, she couldn’t contain her excitement when she heard him say that.
“Thank you so much, Sir… This won’t happen again,” Ashley said excitedly.
“You should be grateful to her,” Miles rolled his eyes and finally sat back in his seat.
“Thank you so much, May. I’m grateful,” Nancy and Ashley said to May.
“Hmm,”
An awkward silence crept into the atmosphere after Nancy and Ashley left. May fondled with her fingers nervously as she looked down at her feet.
“Why are you standing there? Aren’t you going to sit?” He looked at her and asked.
“Thank you for letting them go,” Her voice came out excitedly.
“If you are grateful, why don’t you treat me to dinner after work?” She raised her gaze to him, her eyebrows raised.
“What? You don’t want to?” He raised his eyebrows, and she bit her bottom lip.
“Fine. I will do that,” A smile formed on his lips as he nodded his head.
“You should get some rest. You must be stressed. I have something to deal with over here,” He took his attention back to his desktop as he stated.Ccontent © exclusive by Nô/vel(D)ra/ma.Org.
May nodded and walked over to sit on the sofa. Her heart fluttered as she stared at him, unable to take her eyes off him. He was in every way attractive. Her grumpy boss then was everything sweet now. How wonderful!
Her heart missed a beat when Miles raised his gaze and found her drooling over him. She quickly turned her face away, and he smiled.
Her phone beeped and a text popped on the screen.
‘Hey! What’s up? It’s been a while. I just moved into a new apartment today. Mind checking it out later?’ May knitted her eyebrows together as she read through the text.
“Who is this?” She mumbled, and just then, a picture popped on the screen of her phone, and she checked to see that it was sent from the same number. It was a familiar picture of Liam, her college crush.
“Liam?” His name slipped out of her mouth before she could control it, and Miles immediately raised his gaze from the desktop and looked at her.
“Liam? Is that jerk texting you?” He huffed as he reclined on the chair. She looked at him and blinked her eyes a few times confusingly.
“Is there a problem with that?” Her question made Miles clench his fingers tightly as waves of anger sparked through him. How could she ask him that when there is everything wrong with that jerk texting her?
