Dear Contract Wife, You Are Mine

Chapter 33

Maybelline Walter POV

‘I’m sorry, I don’t think I’ll be able to go see it with you’ I declined Liam’s request earlier since I have plans with Miles after work.

It was finally closing time, and we got ready to leave the office.

“So, which restaurant should we…”

“I changed my mind. Let’s go home,” His reply came rather harsh and cold, leaving me confused.

“Why?” I was forced to ask.

“Nothing. I don’t feel like going out to eat anymore. I have something to deal with at home also,” He didn’t even spare me a glance as he grabbed his coat and headed toward the door.

“Are you not going to wait up for me?” I rushed after him, but he kept walking.

We took the elevator to the first floor and when we arrived at the parking lot, he hopped in the driver’s seat of his car and started the car. I could bet with my life that he would’ve driven off if not that I was fast to hop inside the car.

“What’s with you?” I mumbled as I fastened my seatbelt.

Just when I thought he was going to start the car, he turned to me and inhaled deeply.

“What’s with you?” I asked again, and he scoffed.

“You can’t tell? We are married, May. Why would you be talking to another man? Liam of all people? Ugh! This is crazy,” He groaned and slammed his hands on the steering wheel.

“Why can’t I talk to him? I told you he is…”

“Was your crush. You had a crush on him back in school. Why would he text you? What does he get on you? Is he trying to win you back now that you are married or what?” He rambled on while I just stared at him wordlessly.

“But why are you complaining?” Confusion resounded in my voice as I stared at him blankly, and he blinked his eyes.

“Right… Wh… why am I complaining? Ugh! I think I must’ve lost my mind for a moment…” He mumbled, but I heard him clearly.

“Just forget it. I was just… Never mind,” He said dismissively as he started the car and drove off.

Many thoughts lingered on my mind as I glanced at him for the umpteenth time as he drove down the road minutes later. Why was he being like that? Does he have feelings for me? Is he jealous?

“Don’t be silly, May. How can Miles have feelings for you? Jealous? Forget it! It’s not even possible,” My subconscious mind reminded me, and I huffed and clicked my tongue.

We got home after a few minutes’ ride, and he alighted from the car before me.

“You are confusing me, Miles… What’s going on? Why are you acting like this?” He stopped on his track and turned to face me.

“Why am I acting this way?” He huffed as he tucked his hands inside his pockets.

“I don’t know… Maybe I lost my mind for a moment back at the company. Maybe I was just stressed, who knows?” His reply was bland and didn’t sound realistic, so I wasn’t convinced.Exclusive © material by Nô(/v)elDrama.Org.

“Come on… You are…”

“I’m not comfortable with you being around other guys for as long as we are together. I don’t want you to have male friends…” He paused then walked over to me and placed his hands on my shoulders.

“Call me insecure or whatever, but I feel like for as long as we are bound by that contract, we are still legally married, and you should be with me alone. I don’t want to see you around that Liam guy. It makes me uncomfortable,” My heart fluttered, and I swallowed nothing. I wasn’t mistaken, I saw jealousy and desires in his eyes when I looked into them, but I had no idea how true it was.

“So, stay away from him. Don’t talk to him… If you need anyone to talk to, I’m here… You don’t need him. I’m here for you. That is why you have me and your friend, Lily,” This was yet again another soft side of my boss and husband I was seeing. Another passionate side of him, and I was sure that I wasn’t mistaken.

“Will you?” I found myself nodding my head affirmatively even though I had no idea why he was doing this. Could this be jealousy? Again, I asked myself, but was quick to dismiss the thought, reminding myself constantly that no way it could be true. I was sure Miles just saw me as his contract wife and there was no string attached.

He patted my shoulder and forced a smile before he walked away.

My body hurt all over as I dragged myself into the room minutes later. A smile formed on my lips as I gently rubbed my hand on my stomach.

“How are you, baby?” I whispered. I couldn’t wait to hold my baby in my arms, I couldn’t wait to be a mother, but then, a part of me felt sad that I would be raising the child alone later. I’ve always wanted my child to experience both parents’ love, but I guess this was fate I had to embrace.

My phone started to ring, demanding my attention which I gave to it as I walked over to the bed and picked up the phone. A smile formed on my lips when I saw that it was Lily who had called me, but my smile disappeared almost immediately, realizing that it must’ve been because of Miguel she was calling.

“I hope this is not about Miguel this time?” I rolled my eyes as I slumped on the bed, and I heard her scoff.

“You are mean,” I bet she rolled her eyes.

“Whatever! Are you back from the hospital already?” I glanced at the wall clock and yawned tiredly.

“Yeah… Just got back a few minutes ago. Are you back home?”

“Hmm. A few minutes ago,”

“How is my godson and your husband?” I rolled my eyes and scoffed.

“They are fine,”

“You finally admit that he is your husband,” She chuckled, and I rolled my eyes.

“Whatever!”

“We have a lot to talk about tomorrow. I’m taking the day off tomorrow. Can you talk to Miles to give you the day off? Let’s hang out tomorrow,”

“Really?” I sat up on the bed immediately and smiled brightly.

“I know you have missed me so much and can’t wait to see me. Save the excitement till tomorrow. I took the day off especially for you, so let’s spend all day together,”

“That’s so sweet,”

“Yeah, I’m the sweetest friend you can ever ask for. I need to go now. Let’s see tomorrow,” The call finally ended, and I smiled.

I yawned tiredly as I dragged myself from the bed and headed into the bathroom. I took my time to have a refreshing shower. I stopped on my track when I walked back inside the room about an hour later and found Miles inside the room. I had forgotten we shared the same room and was careless.

“Fuck!” I cursed under my breath as I turned swiftly to go back into the bathroom.

“I don’t think you should be so guarded around your husband. Besides, we didn’t agree that we were not going to make love while married,” my legs went jelly and I froze on the spot.

“I think you should stop running away from me. I’m your husband and not some stranger,” he added, and I closed my eyes and breathed in deeply.

Slowly, I turned and found him already standing on his feet with his hands tucked inside his pockets as he feasted on me with his eyes.

“Wh… what are you staring at?” My voice quivered as I quickly covered my body with my hands as I only had a white towel wrapped around my chest.

“Your body, of course… You have a pretty sexy body,” His words made my heart flutter and my cheeks flushed. I quickly turned my face away so he didn’t notice it.

“I made dinner. You should join me downstairs. I’ll be waiting,” I heard his footsteps followed by the sound of the door opening, and seconds passed before the door finally closed. I released the breath I’d been holding unknowingly upon realizing that he already left the room.

“That was a close one,” I slumped on the dressing chair weakly…
