Chapter 2194

Chapter 2194

Sylvia waited for Old Mr. Jarvis to hang up before she finally allowed herself to breathe, her heart racing with a nervous excitement that tingled at her fingertips.

She had heard of Old Mr. Jarvis before, a man reputed to be a reclusive and haughty old soul. Yet, the voice on the phone was surprisingly warm and gentle.

Placing her phone down, Sylvia still echoed with the old man's words, "Have him bring you home." She pressed her lips together in a faint smile, dabbed her face clean with a tissue, and turned to leave the room.

After preparing breakfast, Sylvia returned to the bedroom, where Gabriel was getting dressed.

She walked over and helped him button up his shirt.

"Sorry, I accidentally took your call just now. I think it was your grandfather," Sylvia apologized, her long lashes casting a shadow as she spoke softly.

Gabriel's eyes paused for a moment, "Grandfather?"

"Yes."

With a calm and measured tone, Gabriel replied, "I see. I'll call him back in a bit."

"You should call him back first." Sylvia secured the last button and looked up with a gentle smile, "I'll wait for you in the dining room."

"Alright."

Gabriel turned to pick up his phone, scrolling through the call log and noting that Sylvia and his grandfather had spoken for around two minutes.

What had they talked about?

His gaze deepened with curiosity as he redialed the number.

After four or five rings, the call connected, and Old Mr. Jarvis's robust voice came through, "Ah, you're up!"

Gabriel pinched the bridge of his nose, "Got something here. I'll be back in a couple of days. Say hi to Old Mr. Quintin for me."

Old Mr. Jarvis chuckled, "Did I interrupt anything between you two?"

Gabriel replied with composure, "No, you didn't."

"The young lady was quite polite on the phone, seemed quite caring towards you. She sounds like a sweet girl."

Gabriel stood by the window, the harsh lines of his face softened by the sunlight. He smirked to himself - sweet? She was the type to climb the roof if you gave her a ladder!

In an even tone, he said, "She's dealing with something. I need to stay with her for a couple of days."

"Take all the time you need. Forget two days, two months is fine too," Old Mr. Jarvis sounded particularly pleased.

Gabriel was silent for a moment.

Old Mr. Jarvis continued, "Is the young lady in trouble? Does she need any help from me, or Estelle might be able to assist as well?"

After all, they were in J City.

"No need, I've got it under control," Gabriel assured him. This is the property of Nô-velDrama.Org.

"Alright then, take good care of her. Don't worry about me, I have Old Mr. Quintin!" Old Mr. Jarvis laughed, "Also, explain to the young lady that I'm not scary at all, tell her there's nothing to be afraid of."

Afraid of him?

Gabriel couldn't help but curve his lips in a slight smile, "I'll be back after a few days!"

"No rush, you can come back after the new year if you want!"

Gabriel cut him off, "I have to go!"

Old Mr. Jarvis, ever amiable, ended the call, "Was that her calling you? Better hurry!"

Gabriel held the phone thoughtfully before heading out.

In the kitchen, Sylvia was simmering a soup, turning with a soft smile, "Soup's almost ready."

Leaning against the kitchen doorframe in his crisp black shirt, his features sharp and his presence commanding, Gabriel spoke, "You got up early. We could have gone out for breakfast; you didn't need to get up and cook."

Sylvia brushed a stray lock of hair behind her ear, her voice soft with a laugh, "I like making breakfast myself. A good meal in the morning sets the tone for the whole day."

Gabriel said nothing more and stepped into the kitchen, "Need a hand?"

Sylvia's lips curved, "If you don't mind, could you open the top cabinet for me? I've put the pepper up there."
