Chapter 40- A kiss

Ryan had met his friend Adan to have a couple of drinks. He took that moment to ask about how the nvestigation was coming along.

Adan shook his ne and said, "Something feels fishy, bro. My men are good at finding out things... but

his particular case has been difficult. We haven't gotten any more news since last time."

Ryan narrowed his eyes. He recalled how Lora reacted each time he got close to her... it was almost like she was hiding something and was afraid he would find out.

He took a sip of his wine and remarked, "Keep looking. Pump in more money if possible. I want to know everything there is to know about Lora Davis."

Adan nodded, knowing this was important to his friend. He took out his phone and began to scroll through his social media when he came across a piece of news. His eyes widened in shock. "Oh shit."

Ryan glanced at him lazily and asked, "What is it? One of your women again?".

"No, man... I don't know if I should show you this," Adan remarked.

"Why? Does it have anything to do with me?" Ryan asked.

Adan glanced at Ryan and showed him his phone screen before saying, "It seems Miss L is in love."

Ryan's heart skipped a beat.

He looked at the phone and read the news. It said not only was Miss L at the peak of her career, but she was also in love.

Beneath the caption was a picture of Jason kissing Lora. From the angle at which the picture was taken, it looked like they were a very loving couple who met after a long day's work and showered each other with sweet kisses.

A strong surge of jealousy rushed through Ryan, he wound up dropping his wine glass, not caring that it shattered to pieces on the floor.

Every woman loved a man who was proud of them and could show them off to the world.

Ryan clenched his hand around the phone and Adan said, "Whoa, easy there... that's a new phone, bro."

"Fuck," Ryan cussed and ran a hand through his hair.

Why did his heart hurt so much? He was filled with so many conflicting feelings that he couldn't understand. All he knew was that he wanted to break every bone in Jason's body for holding and kissing Lora.

Suddenly, Ryan's phone rang. He furrowed his eyebrows when he saw that it was Ivy but he picked up regardless.

"What is it?" He snapped.

"Ryan.. I wanted to tell you that I apologised to Lora in public, hoping that it would help increase the company's reputation. Please forgive me, Ryan. I didn't think when I stole Lora's work. I was desperate but now, I'm willing to do anything to make things right," Ivy remarked. "Can I continue working in the jewelry company? I'll do my best this time around."

Ryan's eyebrows creased. He was not in the mood to chat with Ivy, so he agreed to get her off his back." Fine, you can return to work."

She said on the phone, "Ryan, since you announced the engagement to the media and the day of our engagement ceremony is a few days from now, how about I visit your family officially?"

Ryan zoned out when he heard Ivy's words. He thought about how Lora had just agreed to date Jason and his heart clenched with indescribable pain.

'Lora... do you really love that man?' Ryan mused in his mind, clenching his hands into fists.

"Ryan?? Can I visit your family before our engagement ceremony?"

Ivy's voice on the phone brought Ryan back to the present but he was in no mood to discuss the engagement with her.

He answered, "I've been very busy lately, trying to deal with the aftermath of the scandal. Our engagement ceremony will be postponed to a later date." "Ryan-"

Ryan cut the call before Ivy could continue, his mind reeling with several thoughts. He couldn't shake off the image of Jason kissing Lora from his mind.

The jealousy burning in his chest was so fierce that it could start a forest fire. He got to his feet and left

the club.

Before he knew it, he had driven to Lora's apartment building. Lora had filled in her personal details when they had a partnership and Ryan had a photographic memory... he could still remember her address. He took out his phone and called her.

At the same time, Lora had just put the kids to sleep when she received a call from Ryan. She frowned and cut his call immediately.

However, he kept calling like a debt collector and she sighed. Rolling her eyes, she answered, "Hello, Mr. Kingsley, why are you calling me at this time of the night?"

"Come downstairs or I'll come up," Ryan ordered and cut the call, leaving ho room for refusal.

Lora rolled her eyes. What did Ryan want with her this time?

She knew without a doubt that Ryan would follow through with his threat and come to her apartment, so she left the house and went downstairs.

She found him standing outside his car, his face devoid of any emotion. When he saw her, he began to approach her.

Before she could tell what was happening, Ryan was in front of her, he cupped the back of her head firmly, cutting her words off by crashing his lips on hers in a forceful kiss. Lora's eyes widened. She was so shocked that she forgot to push him away right away.....

'Oh fuck,' Ryan groaned in his mind when he tasted Lora's flavour... he didn't expect the kiss to feel so good... he felt like he was about to explode inside from the thousands of emotions rippling through him... Kissing Lora felt so...

Ryan suddenly hissed and pulled away from Lora before wiping away the blood on his lips with his thumb. He looked hurt as he asked, "You bit me?"

However, Lora's chest heaved as anger surged within her. She had tried to push him away but he wouldn't budge, so she ended up biting his lip.

Raising her hand, she slapped Ryan's face, the force of her slap tilting his head to the side. She spat, "How dare you!"

Lora glared at Ryan coldly before running back into the building, her heart pounding rapidly against her ribcage she was afraid it would burst out of her chest. Natie
