These men wore identical black uniforms, their eyes fierce and predatory, like wolves circling their prey
“Run! Why do you stop? I knew you’d come this way, so I set up an ambush
Dominick narrowed his eyes slightly, glancing to the side.
There was another path behind them. He subtly tightened his grip on Lola’s hand and took off running while the men were still gloating
“Hey! Stop! Think you can outrun us? You underestimate us!“
Five or six more men came out from that direction, completely surrounding Dominick and Lola.
There were about twenty of them, all burly and strong. Escaping seemed impossible.
And he had to carry Lola along. He couldn’t risk her getting hurt.
“Damn it! I’m exhausted. You ran fast! Why are you stopping now? Legs giving out? I thought the great Mr. Sinclair would be more impressive. Looks like you’re just another pretty boy
Viper, the burliest of the bunch, swaggered toward them
A long, jagged scar sliced down his face, hardening his already menacing expression and making him look terrifying
“Who are you? Or… Who sent you?” Dominick asked calmly, his voice cold.
Viper scoffed. “You think I’m stupid? Like I’m gonna tell you who’s paying me.”
“Boss, should we take him alive? Or just… A subordinate made a throat–slitting gesture.
Viper smacked the back of the subordinate’s neck. “Damn it! Are you an idiot!!
“They said only kill him if we have to. But with this many of us, we can take him alive and get a bigger payout!”
“The boss is right! What are you waiting for? Get him!”
It
It wasn’t Lola’s first time being abducted. Despite her fear, having Dominick by her side strangely made her feel less afraid.
“Wait,” Lola said, pressing her lips, trying to sound mystery,
“Since you know who Dominick is, you should also know that if anything happens to him, his people will notice immediately. Do you really think they won’t find out?
“And I am the lady of the Lewis family! If something happens to me, do you think the Sinclairs and the Lewis will let you get away with it? You won’t survive even if you finish this job today. Are you sure you want to do this?”
“The Lewis?” Viper glanced at his subordinate, his expression complicated.
The subordinate scratched his head, looking uncertainly at Lola, then back at Viper.
“Boss…what…what should we do? The Lewis are…”
“Shut up” The boss slapped him. “Are you out of your fucking mund? Did you forget this was supposed to be kept under wraps?
The subordinate didn’t dare say another word, but his expression remained a mix of shock and complicated.
Viper, though unsure himself, tried to maintain his composure.
“You think we will believe you’re Ms. Lewis just because
Don’t take us for idioms
you say so? Do you have any proof? We’re outlaws, living on the edge.
Dominick was a bit surprised The girl who had been sheltered by Ethan and her parents, who were terrified during her first abduction, seemed remarkably calm today.
He felt a bit relieved but still stepped aside to protect Lola behind him..
Lola’s lips were trembling slightly, her fists clenched tightly at her sides, leaving red marks on her palms.
“Thave proof,”
“You can check online or take a good look at my face. You should recognize me from the internet, right?”
Until then, Lola had been standing behind Dominick, her head down. Viper and his crew had been focused on Dominick, but when Lola stepped out from behind him, they finally got a good look.
“You…” Viper’s face was filled with disbelief. “Why… Why are you here?”
Lola was taken aback by Viper’s reaction. She had expected him to be cautious, but his disbelief and apprehension puzzled
her.
Dominick seemed to sense something was off, a strange look flickering across his face.
“Boss, how about… his subordinate whispered something into Viper’s car.
“Yeah, you’re right. You guys keep an eye on them. If Dominick run away, you’re all dead!”
“Got it, got it! He won’t get away from us!”
On the other side, Viper stepped aside to make a phone call.
“What should we do? I mean… She’s like a different person now! The way she looks, the way she acts… She is not the same as before!
“Maybe she doesn’t remember us? Is that why she’s treating us like this?”
Viper asked again, “Boss, I don’t think she’d ever get mixed up with Dominick. Something had happened, isn’t it?”
“What?” A frail but authoritative voice came through the phone. “You sure you got a good look at her?”
Viper nodded vigorously. “Yes! I saw her, crystal clear. It was her, no doubt about it!”
The person on the other end of the phone seemed to realize something and burst into hearty laughter.
“I understand now!”
Lola and Dominick locked eyes, a silent understanding passing between them.
If they couldn’t fight their way out, they’d have to outsmart their enemies.
“Alright, listen up!” Viper barked. “Toss anything they have that could be used to contact the outside world. Then blindfold them, stash them somewhere, and let’s move out!”
Dominick instinctively stepped in front of Lola. “What do you think you’re doing?”
Viper wanted one more moment in the spotlight. After all, showing off in front of someone like Dominick was a dream for
many men.
“Give me a break, dude! Who do you think you are? You think you can take all of us on? It’s one against a whole crew!” Lola didn’t know what Viper had said on the phone, but he was acting more arrogant after the phone call. Dominick narrowed his eyes. He didn’t care about himself, but he wouldn’t let anyone lay a finger on Lola or even try to “Cut the crap. Let’s get this over with, Dominick growled, rolling up his sleeves.
