Chapter 285
Perhaps it was because the knife had never cut him that he felt neither pain nor discomfort. He seemed incapable of understanding anyone else's suffering. After all, true empathy is a rare thing in this world. Without love for her, why would he feel any need to care for her wounds?
Selena had no choice but to open her eyes. From where she lay, she could see her own pale and weary reflection in Mr. Everett's dark eyes. Forcing a weak smile, she croaked, "Mr. Everett, not too busy, are we?"
Her sudden question made Everett frown slightly, a flicker of confusion in his gaze. Sensing this, Selena continued with a chill in her voice, "Your precious Margot must be shaken after such a scare. Her condition must be even more fragile now, and she needs you more than ever. Yet here you are with me, instead of comforting your sweetheart. Can you really juggle it all?"
Those last words dripped with sarcasm. Silence didn't sit well with Everett, but her sharp words were even more frustrating.
"Can you stop bringing her up?" Everett's tone turned icy. He never saw Margot as the issue between them, but Selena's constant mention of her was grating.
So, it had come to the point where even mentioning her was forbidden.
Pushing past the tightness in her chest, Selena said, slowly and deliberately, "Sign the divorce papers, and both of you can vanish from my life. I won't bring her up again, and I'll keep my distance. You can count on that."
This again!
Everett's temper flared, and his handsome face darkened. In a fit of anger, he accidentally knocked over a vase on the nightstand. The vase shattered on the floor, scattering shards everywhere, and the roses inside sprawled across the ground, petals broken.
Selena's eyelashes fluttered as her eyes focused on the chaos. Ever since Everett had first brought her roses, knowing she liked them, he had ensured fresh ones were delivered daily. Yet, here he was, making a mess of them himself.
His kindness was always on his terms, given when convenient and discarded when not. She no longer had any illusions about a man like him or his cheap gestures.
"If Mr. Everett won't sign the divorce papers, then I'll file for divorce myself! This time, the evidence of your affair is undeniable!"Content © NôvelDrama.Org 2024.
Margot's pregnancy was hardly a secret now.
Everett caught her drift. If he didn't mind the scandal, he should just go ahead with the divorce. Was she trying to threaten him? Amused by his own anger, he laughed, "Alright, Selena, let's see which lawyer would dare take your case!"
"You..."
Selena felt a rush of anger, a metallic taste rising in her throat Not satisfied, he grabbed her chin, his dark eyes locking onto hers as he slowly enunciated each word.
"I've signed all sorts of contracts in my life, but a divorce agreement? That's one thing I'll never sign. You might as well forget about it!"
With that, he let go of her face and got up to leave. But Selena wasn't done. She scrambled up and
grabbed his arm, looking up at him with desperation. The veins on her slender neck stood out.
"Why? You don't love me, so why can't you let me go? If it's because three years ago I was foolish enough to marry you, haven't I paid the price these past three years? Isn't that enough?"
