Chapter 39: Pick up
Chapter 39: Pick up
Carter came to pick me up as soon as Spencer and Liam left me, all alone. He came in the same car
he had come in the day Liam and I crashed into a tree. "I'm so glad you came, I'm tired and my feet are
killing me." I told Carter as soon as I got in the car. Instead of replying, he said, "Please strap on your
seatbelt, Emerald." He instructed and I did so as he drove off. My mind flashed back to Liam, and his
strange reaction. Did I upset him: was he angry with me? Maybe he knew this was going to happen all
along, that's why he warned me about going to school in the first place. Things could've ended way
worse back there, seeing that Spencer was the only one who could defend herself, I was completely
useless. I didn't like the feeling of helplessness that this entire situation made me feel, I wanted to be
able to protect myself if need be. I decided to ask Carter for some advice regarding my situation.
"Carter, do you like, train when you're back at the pack house?" I finally asked and awaited an answer.
"Uh, sure. But I'm not sure-" Carter answered without looking at me, he kept his eyes on the road.
"But?" I waited for Carter to continue. "You would have to gain permission from Alpha Liam and I don't
think our fighting skills would suit you at all." Carter said. This time he glanced briefly at me when he
spoke. "Why?" I asked. Carter's hands tightened on the steering wheel. "Because, and no offence,
you're a human. Training with a werewolf would be like a death sentence for you. As I said before, you
would have to take it up with Alpha Liam because we can't risk getting you hurt." Carter said all in one
breath. I let out a huge sigh, blowing some of my blonde hair in my face. This was going to be harder
than I thought. Although the odds set against me seemed drastic, I would do anything to be able to
protect myself from any danger that threatened my life. And there happened to be a lot of that around
here these last few days. I felt worthless knowing that if someone were to attack me, I wouldn't do
anything about it to defend myself, which didn't sit right with me at all. "Fine." I said to Carter. "I'll talk to
Liam." I replied and Carter nodded. We soon pulled up at the pack house and I thanked Carter for the
ride and ran inside. The kitchen was easy to navigate with my nose, by just sniffing the air , even
though given how huge this house is I would get lost if I wasn't familiar with it. "Hey honey!" Sarah
greeted me as soon as entered the kitchen. "How was your day?" She asked. I sat on a stool and
considered an answer to give to Liam's mom. I consider, 'Oh, you know. I almost got killed for the third
time in less than a week but it okay, I have Spencer and your son to protect me, as I am completely,
utterly useless when it comes on to defending myself' but it doesn't seem right at all to feed Sarah my
problems. Instead I opt for, "It was fine, how was your day?" I ask Sarah. She smiles and wipes her just
washed hands on a sky blue cloth dish towel. "Well, remember my friend that I told you about? Well,
she's hosting a birthday party for her darling six (6) year old daughter, everyone at the pack is going. I All content © N/.ôvel/Dr/ama.Org.
know it's asking too much but could you come? Liam's going, and so is Spencer and Carter." Sarah
asked, her two hands clasped together. I gave her a small smile. A kid's birthday party would be the
best getaway for me right now, from my disruptive thoughts. "I'll come." I told Sarah and she laughed
and pulled me into a warm hug.
