Chapter 40: Birthday Celebrations
Chapter 40: Birthday Celebrations
"So when exactly is this birthday party?" I asked Sarah as we both pulled back from the brief, but
affectionate hug. I was beginning to like Sarah a lot, she was like a second mother to me. Speaking of
my mom, I need to call her and tell her what has been happening for the past few days. I miss her a lot,
and I haven't not spoken to her for this long before. "This evening." Sarah gave me a sheepish smile
when I gasped. "It'll be fun, and besides, you already promised to come." Sarah continued. It was last
minute, but going out to a safe but fun kid's birthday party would be good for my mind and soul. "I'm
going to go find something to wear." I told Sarah and she nodded. I left the kitchen, with my book bag
still on my shoulder. I hadn't even taken it off when I went in the kitchen, since Sarah and I immediately
started talking as soon as I entered the kitchen. "Oof." I felt myself get pushed to the floor. "I'm so
sorry." I could hear a feminine voice saying over and over. I opened my eyes and tried not to pay
attention to the pain in my elbow, and the throbbing in my knee. A pretty redhead girl with curly hair
who seemed to be my age, or maybe older, was getting my bag for me and she looked down as soon
as I opened my eyes. "I'm sorry. You fell when I unintentionally bounced you. Are you hurt?" The girl
asked as I slowly got up from the floor. I brushed invisible dust off my clothes. "No, I'm fine. I'm sorry I
bounced into you." I apologized as the girl handed me my bag. Thankfully, it was the only thing that
didn't get hurt in this incident. I don't need another expense to pay for right now, considering that I am a
penniless 17 year old girl. "My name is Emerald. Nice to meet you." I introduced myself to the girl. She
automatically gave me her hand to shake. "I am Melanie. I've never seen you around here before." The
girl, I mean Melanie, observed. "I'm not from around here. I am staying here for a little while." I
explained to Melanie and she nodded in response. " Well, it was nice to meet you Melanie, but I really
have to go. I have a birthday party to attend tonight." I told Melanie and her eyes widened. "The party
keeping on the pack grounds? Why, it's my little sister's birthday party. Today is her birthday." Melanie
giggled. I laughed also. "What a coincidence." Melanie stopped laughing and watched as I struggled
with my bag. My knee was killing me. I will probably have to get it bandaged, and it is most likely going
to be bruised. "Let me take that. I'll walk you up to your room." Melanie offered and took my bag before
I could persuade her not to. "Thank you." I told Melanie and we both walked towards the elevator. I
pressed the button on the side to take up up to my room. This was one of the times I really appreciated
elevators although I was convinced that they were death traps. My knee was definitely injured and
limping up the stairs would most definitely not do anything to make this better. "We're here." I said as Têxt © NôvelDrama.Org.
the elevator door popped open and Melanie and I got out. I opened the door to my room, I mean the
room I am currently staying in, and we both stepped inside the room. "You can put that right there, on
that desk." I told Melanie and she did exactly that. "Thanks again, you were of great help." I said and
Melanie smiled showing her pointy, white teeth. "Your welcome. See you around." She said and left the
room.
