Chapter 0412
Chapter 0412
Sonia no longer hid her malice when she faced Candice. She couldn't stand to see Candice doing well, nor could she tolerate Candice's haughty demeanor. She was determined to bring her down, making sure she couldn't make a comeback.
Sonia's gaze was vindictive, but Candice remained calm as she quietly observed Sonia. Compared to Sonia's surging animosity, Candice appeared much more composed.
Many things were better left unsaid. Verbal sparring didn’t always serve a purpose, especially with someone like Sonia, who seemed like a rabid dog at the moment.
Engaging in verbal battles with such a person held little meaning.
However, the intensity of Sonia's malice still bothered Candice, and a slight furrow appeared on her forehead.
Sonia, noticing this subtle reaction, thought Candice was afraid. Smirking, she looked at Candice and said, "I've given you the chance. Whether you can seize it is up to you."
As Sonia started to leave, Candice, who had been silent until then, calmly called out, "Sonia."
Sonia looked back.
Candice's face remained composed as she held the pen she had used during the meeting, gracefully twirling it between her slender fingers. Although she was at eye level with Sonia, there was an air of disdain in Candice's gaze.
Her voice cold, Candice said, "It seems that when you were with me, your mind wasn't focused on work. During negotiations, remember to cover up properly so that people won’t find out what you did."
Candice's words were calm, but Sonia squinted, unable to grasp their meaning.
That person had told her they would handle everything for her.
Before Sonia could say anything more, footsteps approached the door.
Angela and Yondu stood at the doorway, looking inside.
Angela asked, "Candice, are you okay? We were supposed to have lunch together, remember?"
Sonia glanced at Angela, forced a smile, and gritted her teeth. "Since your friends are here, I'll leave. I'll also talk to Mr. Howles about Burning Star Studio and ask him to help you out."
When Sonia mentioned Burning Star Studio, her tone became particularly harsh. However, Candice remained unfazed.
Redshade Corporation's matters wouldn't be dictated by someone like Sonia, and Hanley had assured Candice he would contact the real person in charge at Redshade Corporation.
With Burning Star Studio now tied to Aether Corporation and Alex likely taking action to prevent Quentin’s monarchy, Candice's priority was to adapt to any changes in Redshade Corporation's regulations.
Sonia left after her harsh words, and Candice packed up to join Angela and Yondu for lunch.
Curious, Candice asked Angela, "Why did you come back?"
"I was worried about you. I even brought Yondu along." Angela looked at Candice curiously and asked, "What did she say to you anyway?"
Candice shook her head without answering. She pondered Sonia's confident demeanor as her expression turned gloomy.
Sonia hadn't always been brazen like this. Clearly, the person backing her had significant influence. Now, she understood why the people at the police station couldn’t do anything about Sonia.
During lunch, Sawyer appeared at the meeting room entrance, holding a box. Angela teased him, "Sawyer, is this another round of coffee from Mr. Elysian?"
Sawyer coughed and said, "The summit meeting is ending, and Mr. Elysian wanted to express his gratitude. He hopes for future collaboration between Burning Star Studio and Aether Corporation."
Angela, unimpressed, reminded him, "Don't cough over the coffee."
The generous employee benefits at Aether Corporation showed Alex to be a considerate boss. That was the reason his employees were so loyal to him.
Sawyer distributed coffee to everyone in the meeting room but gave nothing to Candice.
In a low voice, he explained, "Mr. Elysian said he'll treat you to a meal after Sonia's matter is resolved. He hopes you understand, given your current situation."
Candice paused in her actions. "That’s not necessary."
Sawyer hesitated, standing beside her. "Mr. Elysian said that you couldn’t refuse."
Candice's face turned cold instantly. Copyright Nôv/el/Dra/ma.Org.
Angela, witnessing the scene, couldn't hold back. She put down her coffee, saying, "I don't get it. What does Mr. Elysian want? Buying coffee for everyone while leaving Candice out is one thing, but asking Candice to go for a meal with him and saying she can’t refuse? Does he think he’s Christian Grey?"
Candice felt uncomfortable. She placed her things on the table, looked directly at Sawyer, and asked, "Did Alex really ask you to do this?"
She knew the kind of person he was. He would buy everyone coffee, but he wouldn’t give her special treatment, especially at a time like this.
Alex had a clear line between work and his personal life.
Even if he knew that she couldn’t drink coffee because she was pregnant, he would’ve gotten her a decaf instead of nothing.
Sawyer appeared embarrassed, unsure of how to explain. However, Candice had figured it out.
She calmly said, "Please tell Old Mr. Elysian not to do this in the future. He shouldn’t involve himself too much in matters between Alex and me."
Sawyer returned to the first floor, still feeling uneasy. Shawn had given this directive after finding out what happened between Candice and Alex.
No matter how hard Sawyer tried to say no, the old man didn’t budge, claiming they didn't understand Candice.
Entering the meeting room on the first floor, Sawyer saw Alex sitting there, looking at him impassively. Before he could say anything, he heard Alex utter coldly, "How embarrassing."
Sawyer stayed silent. As he attempted to justify himself, Alex's tone, devoid of emotion, cut in, "Pathetic."
Sawyer kept quiet. As he was about to defend himself, a familiar voice rang out again. "Lex."
Sawyer quickly composed himself before turning around to see Sonia standing there.
Sonia's eyes were fixed on Alex. She bit her lip, forcing a somewhat decent smile.
"Lex, I want to talk to you privately about Brisco Corporation."
