Chapter 144
Finally, breakfast lingered on for a seemingly long ten minutes.
After finishing, Mikayla wiped the corners of her mouth with a napkin.
Dexter seemed like a very cultured man. Despite being a man, his culinary skills were truly remarkable. She had now eaten breakfast here twice, and not a single dish had been repeated. The food was genuinely excellent. She usually didn't have much appetite, but she ended up eating more than usual.
"If there's anything else you like to eat, you can tell Dexter. He's pretty much a jack-of-all-trades. If there's anything he can't make, he'll learn." Carlos put down his fork and knife.
"This is fine! There's no need to make something different every day."
"Who knew you'd care this much about Dexter." Carlos turned serious all of a sudden, a hint of jealousy in his voice...
Mikayla smiled, "I'm going upstairs to change." With that, she swiftly headed upstairs.
That man is seriously stingy!
When they came back down, half an hour had gone by.
"Mr. Ludwig, the gifts for Mr. Salvatore and Mrs. Salvatore are ready. They're in the trunk of your car." Dexter walked in from outside the villa, speaking to Carlos.
"Got it! We won't be back for dinner tonight." Carlos said, then reached out and grabbed Jaxon's hand. Carlos seemed to have made a habit of it, whenever she was around, he had to hold her hand. Gradually, what had started as something uncomfortable for her had become something she got used to. If he didn't hold her hand one day, she'd feel odd.
They took the car out of the garage, ready to head back to her parents' house.
It was still that mid-priced Ford.
Despite their lavish wedding, she knew Carlos wasn't short on cash. Rich people, whether men or women, usually loved cars. The garage must have several luxury cars stored, yet since they started dating, she had only ever seen Carlos drive this one. Aside from this car, the only other one in the garage was the one Josiah used to pick her up and drop her off.
She couldn't quite figure out his intentions. Who knows when he'd have to go back to the base, leaving her alone in Xosa? She didn't ask, she didn't want to upset herself.
But she did tell Carlos that her family didn't get along well with Logan.
Returning home three days after marriage was Xosa's tradition.
When they arrived at the Ludwig mansion, Sylvia rushed forward, so excited to see her daughter that she was nearly speechless. At that moment, Jorge's family hadn't yet arrived.
Carlos handed the gifts to the servants, instructing them to handle them with care. Then he called out, "Mom!"
Mikayla, hand-in-arm with Sylvia, glanced at Carlos. He called her parents effortlessly.
Noticing their reactions, Sylvia smiled, thinking these were just sweet gestures between newlyweds.
"Good boy!" Sylvia gestured to a servant, who quickly handed Sylvia a large mary gift, which Sylvia then gave to Carlos.Property © 2024 N0(v)elDrama.Org.
Carlos accepted it. "Thank you, Mom!"
"Ha ha... Mikayla and Carlos are back!" Jorge came downstairs, looking very happy.
"Dad!"
"Dad!" Mikayla glared at Carlos.
"Good kids!" Jorge took two red envelopes from the servant, giving one to Carlos and one to Mikayla.
Carlos accepted his. "Thank you, Dad."
"I get one too?" Mikayla said, wide-eyed, happily taking the gift. "Dad, you're the best!"
"And what about me?" Sylvia turned away, pretending to be upset.
Mikayla quickly walked over to comfort her mom. "You're the best, Mom! No competition."
Sylvia lifted the corners of her
mouth into a smile and had a servant bring over another mary gift. "Here! Your dad said you should have two mary gifts, just so you don't get jealous."
Mikayla hugged Sylvia and kissed her cheek. "It's so nice to have parents!"
"Alright, enough chatting! Carlos, have a seat!" Sylvia called out.
"Okay!" Carlos responded.
Sylvia couldn't stop smiling as she headed to the kitchen to check on the dishes.
Jorge had some matters to attend to and went back to his study.
Carlos sat next to Mikayla on the couch, handing over the mary gift he just received. " Mom and Dad gave you this, so you should keep it."
"I don't usually need this much money, you should hold onto it."
Mikayla stared speechlessly at the two large mary gifts.
"If you don't use it, consider it our joint savings! I spent all my money to marry you, so I'm a bit short on cash now." Carlos shrugged.
Mikayla was dumbfounded. This guy emptied his bank account? What a spendthrift!
"Alright, we'll save it." Mikayla said, taking the mary gifts from Carlos.
Just then, Sylvia came out of the kitchen and saw the exchange, feeling happy for her daughter. Consequently, she was even warmer towards Carlos.
However, the harmonious
atmosphere didn't last long. Logan walked into the living room, followed by Mildred, with Winona and Huxley trailing behind. Huxley had a small bandage on his head and his arm cast removed. He'd gained some weight, indicating he'd been resting well at home. The atmosphere suddenly became tense.
Mikayla stepped up. "Uncle Logan, Aunt Mildred! Please, have a seat inside!"
Carlos followed suit. "Uncle Logan, Aunt Mildred."
Sylvia chimed in, "Logan, Mildred. Winona and Huxley, you're here too. Please, come in and sit."
"Mom, could you check if Dad's done with his work in the study?" Mikayla asked Sylvia.
Sylvia nodded and headed towards the study, fully understanding Jaxon's intention to give her some space.
Logan sank onto the couch and glanced at Carlos. "Is this your husband?"
Mikayla answered politely and introduced them. "Yes, he's Carlos."
Logan had claimed he couldn't attend their wedding due to some last-minute issue. But Mildred, Winona, and Huxley had shown up.
Mikayla didn't care that Logan
missed her wedding. The event had
enough guests that his absence didn't matter. Logan's arrogance was well-known, and it wasn't surprising he didn't attend. In the past, inheritance disputes had led him to move out of the Salvatore manor.
"I know. He's the one who hurt Huxley's hand, right?" Logan scoffed, leaning back and picking up a teacup. "Where's your father?"
"He's dealing with some urgent business matters. He'll be down soon." Mikayla explained.
Hardly had she finished speaking when Jorge descended the stairs, with Sylvia following. "Go tell the kitchen to prepare a few more dishes."
"Logan, Mildred! Huxley and Winona, you're here too!"
Sylvia headed to the kitchen while Jorge walked over to the couch.
"Is the company keeping you busy?" Logan asked, taking a sip of tea.
"No. The project manager and I were just discussing some urgent matters," Jorge replied.
Logan put down his teacup and looked at Jorge. "I came today to discuss something about Huxley."
