Chapter 339: Resentment
Asha's POV
I staggered back, shaking my head in disbelief. "That's not true. That can't be true," I mumbled as if I was just trying to convince myself.
"I was left with no choice, Asha. Your mother-Luna Jamaica-was my brother's mate.
He was the rightful Alpha. But when he died, the Pack needed a leader. And I... I was the only option.
I was forced to marry her to maintain stability. To keep this Pack from falling apart."
My father's eyes turned red as he tried his best to hold back his tears. My heart wrenched as I feel for his pain. This is the first time I ever saw my father look so vulnerable.
"I gave up everything. My mate. My happiness. My future. I gave it all away for this Pack, for a life I never wanted. And every day since, I have lived with that choice. With the weight of betraying my mate, of turning my back on the only woman I ever loved."
I stared at him, my body trembling as the truth settled over me like a suffocating blanket.
Everything I had believed, everything I had built my life on - it wasn't mine. It had never been mine.
Astrid... she was his true child, his legitimate heir. Not me. Not Andros.
I felt like a thief, a fraud who had stolen everything that should have been hers.
"I" My voice cracked, the shame and guilt tightening around my throat like a
noose.
What could I even say? What was there to say after everything I had just heard?
Before I could even form another thought, a voice, cold and cutting, sliced through the silence.
"So that's the truth, huh?"
My head snapped toward the doorway, and there she stood. Astrid. Her hands were curled into fists at her side, her eyes blazing with anger and something else - something deeper. Hurt. Betrayal.
Her presence hit me like a physical blow. How long had she been standing there? How much had she heard?
"Astrid," my father said, his voice heavy with emotion, but she silenced him with a sharp glare.
"Don't," she snapped, her tone dripping with venom. "Don't even start," she spat out. Her voice was laced with so much bitterness that it made my chest ache.
"You've been lying to me my entire life," Astrid continued, stepping into the room with slow, deliberate movements.
"I thought I was nothing. I thought my mother was the mistress, that I was born as a mistake, that I didn't belong.
And all this time... all this time, I was your daughter. Your legitimate daughter."
Her voice wavered, but the fury in her eyes didn't falter.
"Astrid, please," Father began, his voice cracking. He took a step toward her, but she held up a hand, stopping him in his tracks.
“Don't you dare come near me,” she hissed. "Do you have any idea what it's like? To think that you were nothing but a mistake and being always reminded of that? The dirty little secret no one wanted?
I was ridiculed, and hated on because was the outsider, the one who didn't deserve a place in this family and being unable to defend myself. How long were you planning to hide the truth?"
I watched as my father's face paled. He stared at Astrid pleadingly, deeply
regretting hiding the truth from her.
"I'm done," Astrid said, her voice
breaking slightly, but her resolve was
unshaken. "I'm done with this family. You can keep your titles, your Pack, yourlies. I don't want any ofût."
en
She turned sharply on her heel, her movements quick and purposeful as she stormed toward the door.
"Astrid, wait!" my father called after her, his voice filled with desperation, but she didn't stop.
"I've spent my whole life surviving without you," she said softly, her voice thick with emotion. "I don't need you now."noveldrama
The silence that followed Astrid's departure was suffocating. My father stood there, his shoulders slumped, eyes filled with a mix of grief and frustration.
I could feel the weight of his gaze on me, but I couldn't meet it. I just stood there, motionless, the room spinning as the reality of everything I'd just learned began to settle in.
"Asha," my father's voice broke through the fog, quiet but filled with pain. "Asha, please... I hope you'd understand."
I didn't say anything. I couldn't. His words felt hollow now, meaningless after everything I had just heard.
I felt disgusted of myself. I felt like the evil person now that I found out the truth.
I've stolen everything from Astrid and I even hated her for nothing.
Without another word, I turned to leave.
"Where are you going?" he called out making me stop in my tracks.
"I need a moment to be alone, father to process all of these," with that I left, leaving him no chance to stop me.
Cold air seeped through my skin when I stepped out of the Packhouse, but it wasn't enough to cool the fire burning inside me.
It's the middle of the night, I should be in my room resting, but there is one place I wanted to be.
I need to visit my mother.
I hope she is still alive so she could explain everything to me and give me all the answers that I need.
Why didn't she tell me? Why did she hid it from us? I wish I could hear her side and understand why she kept me in the dark.
But now that she is gone, all I could do is yell at the cold ground and I would never get answers from her.
I ran, my heart pounding in my chest as I hurried to the place where she's buried.
As I neared the cemetery, I slowed down my pace. My brows furrowed when I spotted a figure at a distance.
What do you think?
