Chapter 341: Under Attack
Astrid's POV
The moon hung high in the sky, its cold light spilling into the quiet room.
I sat on the edge of my bed, staring at the open suitcase before me.
My hands shook as I carefully folded my clothes, my mind a tangled mess of emotions I couldn't untangle.
I was my father's legitimate daughter.
The truth had unraveled everything I thought I knew about myself. For years, I'd believed I was nothing - a mistake, a stain on his perfect image.
I'd told myself I didn't belong, that I would never be worthy and that I was just a trouble to their perfect family.
And now, knowing it was all a lie... it left me hollow.
He'd hidden the truth from me. From all of us. I wasn't sure what hurt more- the truth itself, or the years of deception.
I clenched a shirt in my fists, my breath trembling as I fought to steady it.
This doesn't change anything. I couldn't let it.
He might have been my father by blood, but he had never been a father to me. That bond had been broken long before I even knew it existed.
I need to leave.
I shoved the last of my belongings into the bag and zipped it shut. I wouldn't stay here, drowning in the lies and memories.
I'd find my own way, my own cure, without relying on him or anyone else. I owed it to myself to reclaim my life.
The plan was simple. Slip out under the cover of darkness, disappear without a word.
No farewells, no explanations. I couldn't bear another confrontation — not after everything that had happened.
Just as I slung the bag over my shoulder, the silence shattered. The Pack alarm blared, sharp and unrelenting, four piercing notes cutting through the night. My blood froze.
Four rings.
The Pack was under attack.
How? Who would dare to attack the Shadowfang Pack?
I dropped the bag instinctively, my body moving before my mind could catch up.
Heart hammering, I sprinted out of the room and down the hall, my feet pounding against the floor as I rushed to the Pack grounds.
Warriors were gathering, their movements swift and purposeful, their expressions steeled.
As I turned a corner, I nearly collided with him.
Alpha Theron.
Beside him stood Asha, her face pale with worry. For a brief moment, our eyes
met, and I saw the same anguish reflected in her gaze that I felt deep within. But I couldn't stop now.
"Astrid!" Alpha Theron's voice boomed over the chaos, commanding and desperate.
I didn't reply. I didn't even slow down.
"Astrid, please!" His voice cracked, raw and desperate. But I didn't look back.
I hated him—for everything he had done. For abandoning me and my mother, for choosing duty over family, and for deceiving me again even after we'd met.
He had stolen my sense of belonging and warped my identity with lies.
I tightened my jaw, forcing the emotions to the back of my mind, and focused on the path ahead.
Weaving through the warriors and guards rushing into position, I felt the weight of my responsibility press down on me.
I can't just leave them to fight the rogues alone. Not as a warrior. Not as a general.
This was fate, wasn't it? The Moon Goddess forcing me to confront my past one last time before I left it behind for good.
Fine. I'd defend this Pack, fight alongside them, and protect their lives like I always had. After this, they'd owe me nothing - and I'd owe them nothing in return.
Once this was over, I'd disappear for good.
As I reached the front lines, the tension in the air was palpable. Warriors moved
with sharp efficiency, their faces set with determination.noveldrama
Among them stood Andros, commanding the scene with a calm authority that masked the chaos.
I made my way toward him, intending to offer my help. But before I could speak, a warrior rushed to his side, urgency etched into every line of his face.
"Sir Andros," the warrior said, his voice tight. "The rogues have breached our borders. They're infiltrating fast. I don't know how they got past our security measures."
Andros's jaw clenched. "How close are they?"
"They're already within the inner perimeter," the warrior replied grimly. "At this rate; it won't take them long to reach the Packhouse. Sir, we're in serious danger. I suggest evacuating Alpha Theron and Lady Asha immediately."
Andros's eyes darkened with resolve. "We're not running," he said firmly. "The rogues won't defeat us so easily. I'll lead the army myself and deal with them."
I stepped forward, cutting through
the tension. "Let me handle the army," said, my voice steady but commanding. "You should take a few warriors and evacuate Alpha Theron and Asha to safety
Andros turned to me, his expression hard. "No, Astrid. I'm not abandoning the
Pack."
"Then at least let Asha handle the evacuation while I stay here," I pressed.
"No," he snapped, his tone leaving no room for debate. "You're not taking this fight alone, Astrid."
I took a step closer, meeting his gaze head-on. "You're the crown prince, Andros. Your safety is just important as Alpha Theron's. If something happens to both of you, the Rack will fall apart. Don't be reckless."
The warriors around us murmured their agreement, their eyes shifting to Andros expectantly.
The weight of my words - and their support - seemed to sink in.
After a long, tense pause, Andros exhaled sharply and nodded. "Fine," he said
reluctantly.
He turned to Asha. "Take Father and go to the safehouse. Take three warriors with
you and make sure nothing happens to him."
"And you?" Asha asked, her voice shaking slightly.
"I'll catch up," he said firmly, his eyes flicking to me. "Go."
As they turned to leave, I stepped forward, rolling my shoulders and preparing
myself for the battle ahead.
