Chapter 355: Leader of the Shadowfang Pack
Astrid's POV
The night was heavy with silence as the warriors dispersed, the battlefield now empty save for those I loved most.
Andros was gone, banished to a rogue's life, and with him, the storm that had loomed over my family and the Shadowfang Pack for so long.
I stood near the edge of the forest, my legs trembling under the weight of exhaustion, both physical and emotional.
The moon hung low, its light casting a gentle glow over Killian and Ryker, who approached me hand in hand.
"Mommy?" Ryker's voice was soft, hesitant, as if he wasn't sure I would respond.
I knelt down, opening my arms. He didn't hesitate. He ran to me, throwing himself into my embrace, and I held him tightly, burying my face in his soft hair.
"I'm so sorry," I whispered, tears streaming down my face. "I should have protected you better. I should have been there."
Ryker pulled back just enough to look at me, his small hands resting on my cheeks.
"You did protect me," he said firmly, his young voice full of conviction. "You're the strongest Mommy ever."
His words broke me in the best way, and I held him closer, my heart swelling with love and relief.
Killian knelt beside us, his hand resting gently on my back. "He's right, you know," he said, his voice warm. "You've always been stronger than you gave yourself credit for."
I turned to look at him, my vision blurry with tears. “Killian, I—”
He shook his head, cutting me off. "You don't have to explain anything, Astrid. I've seen you fight for this pack, for your family, for Ryker. You don't have to prove anything to me or anyone else."
I reached for his hand, squeezing it tightly as more tears fell. "Thank you," I whispered, my voice trembling.
"For what?"
"For staying. For believing in me, even when I didn't deserve it."
Killian's gaze softened, and he leaned in, his forehead resting against mine. "You've always deserved it, Astrid. And I'll always be here for you. For both of you."
Ryker squirmed between us, giggling, and the tension broke. We laughed softly, the sound strange but welcome after so much pain.
Later that evening, as we sat in the packhouse with Ryker fast asleep in my arms, Asha entered the room. Her face was pale but determined, her steps hesitant as she approached me.
"Asha," I said, sitting up straighter. "Is everything all right?"
She nodded, her hands clasped tightly in front of her. "I needed to talk to you, Astrid. About the pack."
I frowned, my chest tightening. "What about the pack?"
Asha hesitated, glancing at Killian
before focusing on me. "I... I can't do this," she said, her voice trembling, I to
can't lead them. I don't know
be a Luna. And besides...." She paused, her eyes filling with tears. "Father didn't want me to be Luna. He wanted you."
Her words struck me like a blow, and I felt the weight of my father's wishes settle over me once again.
"Asha," I began, but she shook her head, stepping closer.
"No, Astrid Listen to me. Father saw something in you-something I see too. You have the strength to lead this pack, to guide them the way he would have wanted. You've already proven that." noveldrama
I looked down at Ryker, sleeping peacefully, and then at Killian, who gave me an encouraging nod.
"You can do this," Killian said gently. "You're already doing it."
My chest tightened with doubt. "I was once a Luna. I'm not sure if it's an
experience I would want to relive again," I muttered as I lowered my head.
Hearing my words, Killian's face
softened and in his eyes I saw guilt. "You were the best Luna that this
Pack ever had, Astrid. It was my fault for being hard on you and picking on you for no reasom At that
time, I was so stupid."
I looked up at him, feeling bad for bringing back the past. I know that whatever
pain Killian had caused me, he already regretted it so much.
Whatever happened in the past should no longer stop us from moving together forward.
"I'm scared,” I admitted, my voice barely above a whisper.
"I know," Asha said softly. "But I'll be here to help you. We all will."
Killian placed a hand on my shoulder, his touch steadying me. "You're not alone, Astrid. You never were."
I closed my eyes, letting their words sink in. Slowly, I nodded, a sense of resolve building within me.
“All right,” I said, my voice stronger now. “I'll do it. I'll be the Luna our father wanted me to be."
Asha let out a shaky breath, her relief evident. “Thank you, Astrid. I know he'd be proud of you."
Killian smiled, pulling me into a warm embrace. "And so are we,” he whispered.
For the first time in a long while, I felt a flicker of hope. I wasn't just accepting a role-I was accepting myself, my strength, and the love of the people who believed in me.
And as I looked at Ryker, Killian, and Asha, I knew I wasn't doing this alone.
Together, we would rebuild, lead, and protect the Shadowfang Pack. Together, we would create the future my father had dreamed of.
