Chapter 768
Chapter 768:
He tightened his grip on the phone, lowering his voice without thinking. “I need to ask you something important.” There was a brief pause on the other end of the line.
Then, her voice came through, icy and distant. “Spit it out.”
Colton asked, each word heavy, “Are you really with Kellan?” Allison let out a quiet, dismissive laugh.
She hadn’t expected him to ask something like that. Colton hadn’t changed. He was still as selfish as ever.
“Mr. Stevens, even before we divorced, you were already with Miss Johnson,” Allison replied, her tone dripping with sarcasm. “So why do you think you can ask me that now?”
Colton felt a sharp stab of guilt and lowered his voice. “I’m sorry. Five years ago, Melany saved me, and I promised to marry her.” Allison couldn’t help but laugh at that.
She had saved Colton twice, yet each time, he had forgotten. Now, she finally understood that the so-called debt from five years ago was really Melany taking credit for what she had done. And now, Colton was using this as an excuse for his affair before marriage, which seemed incredibly ironic.
“Whether it was five years ago or more than ten, the one who saved you was me,” Allison said, her voice steady. “I know you won’t believe me, especially since your bias against me runs so deep.”
Colton furrowed his brows. “What do you mean?” He felt like things were starting to slip out of his hands.
“Do you really believe someone as weak as Melany could’ve saved you from robbers and carried you on her back to safety?” Allison’s voice was calm and steady. “But I know you won’t believe me. After all, for all these years, anything I’ve said has only been seen as me bullying her.”
Colton was taken aback, his mind racing. He had never told Allison that he was carried on someone’s back when escaping five years ago!
Only he and Melany knew that. So, how did Allison know it? He couldn’t bring himself to think that maybe he had been wrong about who saved him.
And the thought of what that would mean was too much for him to face.
Colton immediately felt the urge to argue, “That can’t be true. You must be lying again.”
Allison had seen his reaction coming from a mile away. She simply let out a sharp, humorless laugh.
“You wish it wasn’t true, and I wish I had never saved you,” she said, her tone calm but unwavering. “But if you and Miss Johnson were truly in love, you wouldn’t be calling me now.”
Colton’s fists tightened without him even realizing it. “I just want to know when you and Kellan got together.”
