The CEO Gets What He Wants

Chapter 209

Chapter 209

“Dad, I want to sleep...” Without opening her eyes, Rory lay on her father's shoulder while pouting her lips.

Just as Avery got out of the car, she looked up and was met with Cayden's deep gaze.

When the back of Cayden's hand touched her chest just now, Avery felt an uncomfortable swelling sensation. She suspected that her menstruation was about to start, which was why the sensitive feeling was worse than the previous night. According to her calculation, her period ought to arrive shortly.

Cayden was carrying his daughter in his arms. After he looked at his son, he turned his gaze to Avery and said, “Stay here and look after the kids.”

Having said that, Cayden put his daughter back into the car.

As a subordinate, it was only natural that Xavier was busier and had more work than his boss. Besides that, he had to personally monitor everything closely.

A five-year-old child sleeping in an empty car parked on the outskirts of a small town would make any parent feel insecure.

As such, Avery stayed back to take care of her daughter, but when she glanced at her colleagues who had already gathered in the distance, she could not help but ask, “But... what would they think?”

“I don't care what they think.” Cayden's expression was gloomy, and his voice was cold. After putting Rory in the car, he turned around and lit a cigarette. When he passed by Avery, Cayden locked his gaze on her and continued, “It's obvious that you've already slept with me.”

Hearing that, Avery felt as if her heart was pricked by a needle.

Knowing the person he was, Avery could sense that Cayden was filled with jealousy for some inexplicable reason that day.

A sophisticated man would take everything into account and be responsible for his obligations. No matter what, he was not supposed to let things get out of hand out of his own impulsiveness and stubbornness. This was a sign of a responsible and mature man.

Avery preferred intelligent and shrewd men to those ignorant and immature youths who just tried to deal with problems using their fists and thought they were all that.

Despite that, no matter how calm Cayden was on the surface, he was undeniably jealous and angry deep inside.

Looking at the tall man striding away with his brows knitted tightly, Avery let out a sigh and went back into the car to take care of the sleeping girl. Avery then lowered her head and kissed Rory on her tender cheek.

Meanwhile, the higher-ups were paying attention and taking notes of what their boss wanted. They even began to take pictures. After all, the design still needed to be altered when they headed back to the office.

Before lunchtime, someone drove out and returned with lunch boxes. Owned by NôvelDrama.Org.

Everyone had to eat the same food because the small town had limited resources.

Avery helped Rory out of the car after she woke up. After all, Avery was there to work, and people would start gossiping about her if she continued to stay in the car.

She was worried that her colleagues would think she was being lazy and abusing the advantage of her close relationship with their boss.

After waking up, Rory followed Zachary around and played with him. The adults would look after the two kids occasionally even though they were busy.

Rory was pointing at the spaghetti in Avery's lunchbox. Before they could finish their meal, Avery noticed a Porsche approaching her from a distance.

A cloud of dust was thrown up by the car in the distance, but when it reached the river, the dust vanished. The wheels splashed water as they crossed the small ditch before coming to a stop in front of everyone.

Shocked by the sudden appearance of the car, Avery froze in place, and her hand that was feeding Rory paused in mid-air.

It was Dylan's car.

What is he doing here?

Rory turned around to look. “It's Uncle Dylan.” Dylan looked leisurely and spirited as he got out of the car.

Looks like he got a good night's sleep last night.

As Dylan was walking over, the voices of the gossiping colleagues entered Avery's ears.

Avery couldn't quite hear what they were talking about. Despite that, she could already guess what was being discussed. It was most likely about the news that morning.

Avery could vaguely guess what they were saying. “Dylan cheated on Avery by sleeping with Nicole last night, and now he has rushed over here to apologize to his wife.”

Some were even secretly musing while eating from their lunch boxes. Avery probably wanted to divorce the boss' cousin, Dylan, because she couldn't stand the fact that her husband was having an affair.

Now that everyone knew Dylan had cheated on her, it's only natural that she's upset.

However, Dylan did not agree to the divorce, so there's definitely something fishy going on.

After all, anything could happen in the wealthy families. No matter how messed up society was, it was not as shady as the world of the elites.

Right then, Dylan brought over a carton of costly drinks with tiny bottles that cost thirty-eight each.

Ordinary office workers seldom bought those beverages as they would prefer going to Starbucks if they had that much money to spend.

“Everyone has worked hard. Here, have some drinks.” Dylan put the carton down and greeted the people who were eating.

“Hello, Uncle Dylan,” Rory greeted him politely.

Dylan looked down and saw Rory at his feet. He then bent down and stretched his arms out. “Come on. Give me a hug!”

“Come here and finish your meal.” Avery pulled Rory over expressionlessly and let the little girl sit on a slab next to her. Then, she turned around to feed Rory.

Rory opened her mouth and chewed the spaghetti, which she seldom ate, savoring its flavor.

All of Avery's colleagues who came to get the beverages thanked Dylan quietly.

Anna took a sip of the drink and said to Christopher, “Did you see that? It seems like he often brings food and drinks when visiting female celebrities. He is so good at this, and now he's using this method again on his own wife.”

As he gulped down the drink, Christopher decided that it would be best to avoid causing any trouble, so he quickly acted like he couldn't hear anything.

No one recognized Nicole as she walked over in casual attire and a hat. They just assumed that Dylan had brought along two female friends or relatives to help him coax Avery.

Sensing the tense atmosphere, Avery's colleagues who had retrieved the drinks tactfully retreated to a distant corner. They occasionally stole glances at Avery while they were working and eating.

Some of them even started taking pictures of Avery, Dylan, and the girls who came with him. However, no one saw the girls' faces as their backs were facing them.

Avery fell into a daze. Soon, she stood up and was about to leave with Rory.

“I'm sorry. I still have work to do.”

Cayden, Xavier, and two workers carrying surveying equipment descended from the hill while Avery turned around with Rory.

After asking the two workers to have a meal, Cayden walked toward Avery.

He furrowed his brows as he glanced at Dylan and even recognized the woman who turned around as Nicole. However, Cayden's gaze did not linger on her as she was just an ordinary person to him.

“Why did you come here?” Cayden asked Dylan in a casual tone while rubbing Rory's head. At the same time, his other hand grabbed the glass of lemonade that Avery was holding as though it was the most normal thing to do. Then, he took a big sip of it.

Avery's heart trembled in shock at once.

Similarly, Nicole couldn't help but feel puzzled as there was a woman's faint lipstick mark on the cup that Cayden drank from.
