Chapter 14
The woman in the photo was indeed her
*This must have been a candid shot at the jewelry expo. Some creep was harassing me and I shooed
him off”
She paused before adding, “I have standards when it comes to choosing a partner. Firstly, he must
have good morals. I would never get involved with a married man. Secondly, he must be attractive. As
a designer, I pursue ultimate beauty, and that applies to people too.”
Leopold narrowed his eyes slightly, his pupils glinting ominously.
“How many men have met your standards?”
Was he prying into her private life?
Aurelia felt a wave of resentment well up within her.
“I’ve been single since birth, never dated, haven’t even enjoy a dating. Now I’m expected to jump
straight to motherhood. Don’t you think that’s a bit tragic? Am I not wronged?”
Leopold didn’t believe a word.
She had been pretty good at flirting with him, clearly experienced. How could she still be so
inexperienced?
“I remember you saying you liked someone.”
His good memory recalled every word she had said, clear as day.
Aurelia stuck out her tongue. She had said that in a fit of anger last time.
However, she had indeed felt a strong attraction to a guy she met on a trip, but they lost contact. He
probably wasn’t interested in her. Material © NôvelDrama.Org.
“I do like someone, but we never dated.“
“Why?”
*Well… unrequited love, you know.”
Aurelia blushed slightly, feeling a bit embarrassed.
Leopold was a bit surprised. He hadn’t expected her to be so upfront.
Actually, he didn’t really care about her past. All he needed was assurance that the children in her belly
were his.
He leaned back in his chair, sipped his coffee, and his eyes flashed with a deep, unreadable coldness.
“Do I meet your standards?”
His tone was casual, as if he was asking out of curiosity, but Aurelia knew better than to ignore the
hidden threat.
This was a test. One wrong word and she’d be done for.
“You’re too good for me. You’re way out of my league, and I wouldn’t dare to reach.”
Leopold’s mouth curled up in a cold, sarcastic smile.
“I hope you’re aware of your own limitations. Those who aim too high are bound to fall hard.”
Her fate was to take the money and leave. If she dared to play tricks under his watch, she’d be digging
her own grave.
Aurelia was never one to aim high. She was a simple girl. A job she loved and a peaceful life were
enough for her.
“Don’t worry. I’m perfectly aware of my abilities.”
She would never, ever harbor any illusions about the man before her.
When she got home that evening, she couldn’t shake off the feeling that something was off about the
day’s events.
Kelly suddenly showing up and stirring the pot was unusual. Had someone put her up to it?
At the moment, Laura was cooking in the kitchen.
She walked in, “Laura, can I help you with the vegetables?”
Without waiting for an answer, she started washing the lettuce.
Laura quickly protested, “Miss, you need to take care of yourself. Don’t overwork.”
Aurelia smiled, “I’m not that delicate, and I’m not a ‘miss‘. You can just call me Aurelia. We’ve been
together for quite a while, and I consider you
like an aunt.”
Laura felt the same. Aurelia never treated her like a servant and she had grown fond of Aurelia.
“Since you consider me your aunt, let me give you some advice. You’re carrying Mr. Leopold’s child,
why not fight for your place and claim the title of the mistress.”
15-24
Aurelia choked on her words. She didn’t have the courage to face such humiliation. Every time she
thought of the contemptuous look in Leopold’s eyes, she felt a chill in her heart.
*Laura, Ms. Elowen is the woman Mr. Leopold likes. I can only wish them happiness and would never
try to interfere with their relationship.”
Laura waved her hand dismissively, “Mr. Leopold doesn’t like Ms. Elowen. Ms. Elowen’s mother is the
adopted daughter of the old master’s dad. So Ms. Elowen’s mother is the old master’s sister. The old
master, Chad Stirling, quite liked his niece, Elowen. So, against Mr. Leopold’s wishes, he insisted on
their engagement. Actually, Mr. Leopold has someone he likes.”
*What? Who?”
Aurelia’s face lit up with curiosity.
