The Contracted Ever After (Cordelia and Ronan)

Chapter 137

Chapter 137

All afternoon, Cordelia felt a chill down her spine. She knew one thing for sure. Ronan's ordeal with

Jordan had nothing to do with her.

While other departments were buzzing about Jordan being taken away, the Audit Department was as

quiet as usual.

After work, Cordelia went to the Millstone Hospital.

Adrian was standing at the door of the ward. When he saw Cordelia, he glanced behind her, looking

like a cat that ate the canary, "Where's your hubby?"

"Something big happened at the company today, and he couldn't make it." Cordelia said and then went

into her mom's ward.

Jamie was sitting by the bed, and chatting with Shelley, looking as happy as a clam. Cordelia was

relieved to see her mom was okay.

"Cordelia, congrats! Your mom is recovering." Jamie said to Cordelia.

"You don't say." If it were up to her brother, he would have taken off her mother's oxygen mask long

ago.

Thinking about how Jamie was tied down by Manda because of her, Cordelia pulled Jamie aside and

said, "Mr. Colby, I heard that Accountant Brenda resigned. Was it Manda's doing?"

"Don't pay heed to your brother's nonsense. I hired Manda because of her credentials, and it has

nothing to do with you. You just be yourself." Jamie said to Cordelia seriously, "As for Brenda, she's

very competent, but our philosophies didn't align."

Despite what Jamie said, Cordelia knew better.

"Bullshit! It's definitely related!" Adrian chimed in from behind them.

"Adrian!" Jamie scolded Adrian harshly.

"Cordelia, mom woke up, I just wanted to see if Ronan would come to visit. If he does, we'll cross that

bridge when we come to it; if he doesn't," Adrian said mockingly, "you should cut your losses and marry

Mr. Colby." NôvelDrama.Org owns this text.

Cordelia ignored Adrian and sat by the bed, feeling guilty.

"Mom," Cordelia spoke to her mom, "Our CFO was taken away by the prosecutor's office today. It's a

big deal, so he couldn't come. Don't take it to heart."

Shelley sighed, thinking: he already came to see me, but she couldn't say it, so she just said she didn't

mind.

When Jamie heard that the CFO was taken away, he thought maybe this could be an opportunity for

Brenda.

Brenda left PrimeNumbers Accounting in a huff, mainly because Manda kept threatening to sue

Cordelia, suppressing Jamie. Jamie and Brenda had some differences before, but they were

manageable. However, when Manda came, the conflict became irreconcilable, which pissed off

Brenda.

Actually, Jamie could have handled Manda suing Cordelia. He just didn't want Cordelia to have any

stains, not even a court summons.

The doctor had checked Shelley's condition, she was doing well, and could probably be discharged in

ten days.

On Friday afternoon, Cordelia returned to Pearl Palms. Ronan was already off work, sitting on the

couch at home.

"Remember you have a home?" Seeing Cordelia's return, Ronan remarked sarcastically.

"Yeah, my mom just recovered." Cordelia was also feeling a bit upset, given Adrian's words. After all,

Ronan hadn't visited her mom even once.

Even though he was an ATM, in Shelley's eyes, he was a son-in-law.

Barney came out and asked about her mom's condition.

"My mom is feeling better. The doctor said she can be discharged in ten days." Cordelia was over the

moon.

"What goes around comes around. Ronan, your mother-in-law has been bedridden for so many years.

Aren't you going to visit her?" Barney asked Ronan, frowning.

"Hmm." Although Ronan responded, Cordelia could tell he was just going through the motions.

Cordelia felt hurt, but she knew she had no right to demand anything from Ronan. His thoughts were

definitely beyond her comprehension, as evident from the way he brought down Jordan.

Since she hadn't been home for several days, she decided to help Janice in the kitchen to make up for

it.

Ronan saw the familiar fried steak.

"You like to cook this dish?" Ronan stared at Cordelia, frowning slightly.

Cordelia hadn't had a good look at Ronan for several days. Her mom woke up, and she thought, how

great it would be if dad was still here.

At this moment, she also looked straight into his eyes. "Don't you like it? I'm good at it." Cordelia said, "I

haven't been home for days. Can't you put on a smile?"

Ronan lowered his head to eat and ignored Cordelia. He used to think the fried steak she cooked was

delicious, but now he had mixed feelings.

Cordelia felt embarrassed. "Did you like this dish before or after?" Cordelia asked Ronan. She had

always been unclear about this question, and more importantly, she wanted to amuse Ronan.

"When are you referring to by 'after'?" Ronan's voice sounded a bit suppressed.

Cordelia wanted to ask if he loved it before or after he had the cornea transplant. Even though she

knew that a cornea transplant wouldn't affect a person's taste, she just wanted to ask, "After you

started your business."

"I loved it since I was a kid. So you're not going to make it anymore?" Ronan looked up and asked

Cordelia.

Cordelia thought: was he angry again? She just casually asked a question, why was he being like this?

"Ronan, speak nicely." Grandpa scolded Ronan.

Ronan put down his bowl, didn't eat anymore, and went upstairs.

Cordelia wondered, what did she do to upset him?
