Chapter 138
Chapter 138
Cordelia was eating in silence. "Leave some food for him," She suggested to Janice.
Cordelia's cheery mood was dampened by Ronan's sudden outburst of anger.
Barney a kept chatting with her to comfort her.
Cordelia tried to keep her emotions in check while talking to her grandpa. After dinner, she received a
Messenger message from Brenda. [I sent my resume to Lumos Enterprises' HR Department today,
applying for the position of CFO.]
[Really?] Honestly, Cordelia was thrilled about the news. Brenda was totally qualified for the job.
[Yeah. Jamie suggested I apply. I wasn't supposed to agree when he first brought it up, but Lumos
Enterprises is worth considering, so I reluctantly agreed.]
There was a laughing emoji attached to the message.
[Great, we could work together then.]
Cordelia was not from the HR Department, so she didn’t know they hadn’t posted the CFO position on
job-hunting sites yet. That was to say, the recruitment hadn't officially started, and Brenda had already NôvelDrama.Org owns this text.
sent her resume to the HR Department.
Cordelia went upstairs.
Ronan put down his book and looked at Cordelia. "When am I visiting your mum?"
"You're serious? I didn't force you." Cordelia was stunned.
"When?" Ronan was getting a bit impatient.
"Today is Friday, how about tomorrow?"
"Fine."
Ronan agreed, and Cordelia started feeling a bit anxious, thinking about what Ronan would pay
attention to when visiting. She leaned on the headboard, thinking carefully.
"By the way, don't ever mention to my mum about our marriage being a contract. I'm afraid she would
be heartbroken." Cordelia turned around and tugged at Ronan's arm.
"I won't."
Cordelia nodded, feeling relieved, but she had a feeling that something big was going to happen when
Ronan visited!
After breakfast the next day, Cordelia and Ronan went to the hospital. As they approached the
entrance, Cordelia saw Adrian standing by the bed.
He was hardly seen when mum was unconscious, but now that she was awake, he came every day.
How strange.
Thinking about what Adrian had said yesterday, Cordelia deliberately hooked her arm around Ronan's.
"You're here?" Adrian turned around and mocked Cordelia.
Ignoring him, Cordelia walked to her mother's bed and saw her mother breathing heavily with her eyes
closed, she knew Adrian had upset her again. She pushed Adrian. "What did you do to upset Mum?
She just woke up, and she's still weak!"
Shelley opened her eyes when she heard Cordelia's voice. Her angry expression was gone. Then, she
saw Ronan standing next to Cordelia.
"Who is this?" Shelley pretended not to recognize Ronan.
"Mum, this is my husband, and also my boss, Ronan," Cordelia said.
Adrian snorted in disdain at Cordelia's words.
"Della mentioned you before. Young and successful." Shelley looked at Ronan, and Ronan also looked
at her, and both of their gazes made it clear neither was surprised, it was as if it was their first meeting.
"Really?" Ronan forced a smile.
"Della, get a chair for Ronan," Shelley instructed.
There was only one chair in the room, which was occupied by Adrian. Just as Cordelia was about to
find another chair, Adrian spoke up, "Mum, where are you going to live after you're discharged? Your
daughter is so dutiful. Why don't you live with her instead of squeezing with me in my small house.
Besides, I have a girlfriend now. It won't be convenient for you to stay with us."
"Adrian," Cordelia scolded Adrian. So that was why he was arguing with Mum earlier, but the apartment
they were arguing about was originally under both Mum and Dad's names.
"Cordelia, get him out of here!" Shelley suppressed her anger.
"I won't leave until we settle this." Adrian crossed his legs and sat stubbornly.
Things were about to get ugly.
"It's not difficult. I can buy two four-bedroom apartments, one for Shelley, one for Adrian. Problem
solved," Ronan suggested.
His voice was unusually cold. He was supposed to be happy since he had found the person who saved
his life and also found an opportunity to repay her, but he just couldn't feel happy.
