Chapter 216
Chapter 216
Cordelia stood there.
"Cordelia, it was an accident. The cops have looked into it, it was just an accident." Ronan held her
tight. He was worried she might faint.
"This wasn't an accident. I'm sure of it. Why didn't the police talk to me?" Cordelia's tear-blurred eyes
were full of resentment as she looked at Ronan, "Shelley said she would treat me to spaghetti
Bolognese after we check the house. There's no way she would have an accident!"
"You'd fainted." Ronan said.
"Where's Shelley? I want to see her." Cordelia made a dash for the door.
She was caught and carried back to bed by Ronan.
"Try to calm down a bit." He said, watching her now lying quietly on the bed.
"Where's she?" Cordelia asked him.
"Serenity Meadows Cemetery." Ronan said.
At this, Cordelia totally broke down. She started to cry and wail, "Mom, mom..."
Then she started to hit Ronan hard, "What happened to Shelley that day? Tell me!"
"It was just an accident!" Ronan said firmly.
But Cordelia didn't believe him.
She knew Ronan was a schemer. If he didn't want to reveal something, she'd never find out.
"I'm not going to work for a few days. I'll stay home with you." He said.
Cordelia turned her back to him, ignoring him and pretending to sleep.
Ronan had restricted her freedom. She couldn't do anything, let alone find out the truth.
She knew she couldn't defy him right now.
Cordelia's world had shrunk to her bedroom.
Barney came to see her, saying how sorry he was about Shelley's passing.
"You have to pull yourself together, Della. At least you have Ronan." Barney patted Cordelia's hand.
Cordelia couldn't say anything to Barney.
But one thing was clear to her. Ronan had something to do with Shelley's death, and she couldn't fully
trust him.
He didn't just happen to be at that house.
Three days later, Cordelia's mood started to stabilize and she started eating again.
"I want to visit Shelley." She told Ronan one day.
She looked so haggard, it broke his heart.
"I'll go with you." Ronan said.
"Okay. Can I have my phone now?" She asked him.
Ronan handed over her phone.
There were lots of new messages on WhatsApp, all from the past few days.
All the messages were new, but Cordelia hadn’t seen any of them.
Jamie, Brooklyn, and Brenda...
Many people were telling Cordelia not to take it too hard.
Samantha had also sent a message. Because she was at the top of Cordelia's friends list, she must
have messaged Cordelia. But the content of the conversation had been deleted by Ronan.
He must have read all the messages on her phone.
He knew that Shelley had planned to treat Cordelia to spaghetti Bolognese before she died, so he
purposely told Janice not to make it.
She quickly got ready and hopped in the car with Ronan to go to Serenity Meadows Cemetery.
Having not seen the sun in several days, Cordelia instinctively shielded her eyes when the sunlight hit
her face.
The weather was hot, but it felt cold in Serenity Meadows Cemetery.
Cordelia kneeled in front of Shelley's grave, gently touching her tombstone.
Ronan just stood quietly to the side.
"You said you'd have spaghetti Bolognese with me after we check the house. Why did you suddenly
leave? I waited six years for you to wake up. I thought you'd watch me give birth, grow old, and we
could still have chats when I'm sixty. How happy that would be. But why did you leave so early?"
Cordelia's tears started to flow as she spoke.
She didn't say anything more because Ronan was there.
She really wanted to ask Shelley about what happened that day? Why was Ronan there too?
Cordelia remembered Ronan had called her, saying he was going to see Olen. Signature Estates was
originally Olen's property, and it was because of this project that Olen had aged so much overnight. NôvelDrama.Org owns all © content.
Cordelia knew there was something she didn't know about.
So now, she kept her distance from Ronan.
On the way home, Cordelia told Ronan she wanted to stay at Shelley's place for a few days.
"I'll go with you." Ronan said.
"No need. I want some quiet time alone." Cordelia said.
"No way!" Ronan refused without hesitation.
He didn't give Cordelia any room for negotiation.
Cordelia turned away without saying a word.
He was probably worried that she would find out more about what had happened.
Ronan instructed the driver to go to Shelley's neighborhood.
When Cordelia tried to open the door to Shelley's house, she found it was locked.
"Who's there?" Kendra's voice came over.
When she opened the door and saw it was Cordelia, she was just about to make a snide remark but
then she saw Ronan standing behind her. Kendra's attitude changed immediately.
"Come in" She said, "Cordelia, are you moving back? Adrian and I are staying in Shelley's room, and
you can have your old room. Adrian's at work. I never expected Shelley to have such a mishap."
Kendra knew the truth that Olen must have pushed Shelley. Her previous efforts to stir up trouble had
worked, successfully leading Olen to mistake Shelley for Shayla.
Kendra feigned a few tears.
"You and Adrian should go stay at a hotel for the next couple of days. I'll cover the fees." Ronan told
Kendra, and his tone was icy.
"You're staying here too?" Kendra asked, her gaze at Ronan filled with suspicion.
"Yes." Ronan said.
"Alright then." Kendra was disappointed. If she could live under the same roof as Ronan, she got to see
his daily life and how awesome would that be.
Now, she had to imagine Adrian as Ronan every night just to fall asleep, to forget Adrian's creepiness.
Kendra went back to her room to pack, "I'll let Mr. Evans know once I've found a hotel then."
"No need. I'll just send the money straight to Adrian." Ronan said.
Ronan saw right through Kendra's attempt to get his contact.
Kendra's face flushed with embarrassment as she left.
