Chapter 511
Jennifer forced a smile. "People are hounding us to pay off the management fees, which will cost 30 thousand dollars. As you may have already known, Tessa's company is losing money, and the car got auctioned off.
"We don't have the money to pay for the fees. The property management staff comes by daily, and they'll cut off the power if we don't pay soon."
Matthew nonchalantly glanced at Jennifer. "Get Xavier to pay for it."
Jennifer smiled bitterly. "Xavier doesn't earn enough to get by, and I'm out of options now. I heard you're quite well-off. Even a small amount from you can cover the fees. It's nothing much for someone like you."
Matthew coldly asked, "How's Butters doing?"
Jennifer was baffled. Why did Matthew bring up the dog when they were talking about money?
But since Jennifer needed a favor, she still smiled and said, "Butters? He's doing great. You used to buy him sausage all the time. The last time he saw you, he was wagging its tail. He's really fond of you."
Matthew indifferently remarked, "If Butters runs out of food, I can pitch in and buy him some sausage, but forget about borrowing money from me. I'm not lending you anything."
Jennifer snapped, "I used to be your mother-in-law, Matthew. Are you telling me you'd rather buy sausages for a dog than lend me a hand?"
With a grim expression, Matthew replied, "Yes. I'd rather spend money on sausages for the dog than give you a single cent."
Jennifer was shaking with anger. "Why? Do you really have to go this far?"
Matthew scoffed. "When I buy sausages for a dog, at least it wags its tail at me. But after supporting your whole family for so long, you still bite the hand that feeds you. You're worse than a dog. If you think you can borrow money from me, keep dreaming."
After saying his piece, Matthew floored the gas pedal. The car engine roared loudly, and the car sped off like a bullet.
Overwhelmed by the exhaust, Jennifer coughed repeatedly with tears streaming down her face. When she finally caught her breath, her face was hot and flushed as if she had a few drinks.
Jennifer was surprised that Matthew would think of her as less than a dog. She was utterly humiliated.
Jennifer clenched her teeth in frustration. What upset her even more was not getting the money. If the utilities were cut off, how could she survive this heat without air conditioning?
Jennifer stood there lost in thought for quite some time before something hit her.noveldrama
Matthew had a thing for keeping up appearances and loved to put on a show. If Jennifer made a scene at Matthew's workplace multiple times, he might be embarrassed and give her a few thousand dollars just to make her go away.
As Jennifer mulled over whether the plan would work, she left the kindergarten entrance.
Campbell Clinic was located near the Savvy Savers Market of Denketh in Lambda City. A car pulled over in front of the clinic. The door opened, and Matthew stepped out of it.
Matthew looked at the closed door
with a frown. Was the clinic not open, or did he go to the restroom? After waiting for some time with no sign of Sebastian, Matthew tried calling him, but the line was busy.
Matthew then dialed Caleb's number. "Hey. Any leads on finding the Red Wolves' location?"
Caleb was surprised that Matthew
would call him first and was
flattered. "I've found some clues. There are a few spots within a 15-minute drive that might be the Red Wolves' hideout. Do you want to check them out?"
What do you think?
