The Great Medical Saint

Chapter 816

Nolan had already left, so Tony had to figure out how to pay for the meal by himself.

After saying goodbye, Matthew came back to the table and noticed Tony hadn't touched his cutlery or taken a bite. Feeling puzzled, he asked, "Why aren't you eating?"

The food was delicious!

Tony scooped up some pasta with his fork and thought it tasted pretty great. Despite that, he wasn't in the mood to eat. He was too busy thinking about how he'd pay for the bill.

As the other customers gradually left the restaurant, Matthew and Tony were the only ones left, sitting side by side and eating.

Matthew grabbed a piece of garlic bread and handed one to Tony. He took one for himself and started enjoying his pasta.

He devoured his food in no time, wolfing down his pasta in just one minute. After setting down his cutlery on the plate, he grabbed himself a cup of water and drank

it in one go.

Upon noticing Tony blankly stared at the pasta, Matthew chuckled and remarked, "Come on. Time to eat. This one's on me."

Tony shook his head. "That won't do. You saved my life. I have to treat you to this meal. I can't be ungrateful."

Matthew felt speechless. Since it was just a plate of pasta, how did this turn into a big deal about gratitude? Wasn't that a little extreme?

Still, he figured it was time to get straight to the point. "I'm with the medical sects, and I came here specifically for you. Saving you was just a coincidence, so no need to dwell on it."

Medical sects?

When Tony heard that, his eyes were wide open.

After staring at Matthew for a long time, Tony finally broke the silence. "Do you have any proof that you're from the medical sects?"noveldrama

Having dealt with this situation a few times, Matthew held out his Juprus Ring. "Does this confirm who I am?"

As Matthew spoke, he placed his hand in front of Tony, inviting Tony to look closely. Holding his hand, Tony carefully examined the ring and remained silent for a while.

Matthew didn't know if Tony had ever come across Juprus Ring. If he had, it'd make things simpler. If not, things might get tricky.

Matthew nervously waited for Tony's response. But as he kept watching, he sensed that something was off.

Tears welled up in Tony's aging eyes as he looked at Juprus Ring. He was continuously shaking his head. He even muttered to himself, "I-I'm sorry. I'm not worthy to look at this ring. I'm nothing but a failure. I'm worthless."

Matthew realized Tony recognized Juprus Ring, but he was at a loss when he saw Tony break down. "Stop crying, alright? We can talk about it."

The restaurant owner and his wife saw Tony in tears. They stopped what they were doing, standing nearby and watching.

Tony didn't hold back. He raised his hand and slapped himself. "I'm a good-for- nothing. I'm useless. Even though I possess the revered Vital Restorative Remedies, I don't even have the license to practice medicine."

As Tony spoke, he continued slapping himself.

Seeing what was happening, Matthew grabbed Tony's hand. "Stop hitting yourself. It isn't your fault."

Tony bawled his eyes out. "It's all my fault. Don't make excuses for me. I have all this medical knowledge, but I went mad for years and became a laughingstock. I'm trained in medicine but unable to save anyone. On top of that, I even lost my mind. Isn't that pathetic?"

Watching this scene unfold, Matthew felt a pang of sorrow because he knew it wasn't Tony's fault.

Under certain agendas and with backing from capitalism and global powers, modern medicine surged forward like a powerful, unstoppable flood.

Anyone who stood in its way would be trying to stop the inevitable. They would end up being crushed into dust.

There was no way to get all this across to Tony, so Matthew thought for a moment and decided to use simple words to comfort Tony.

"You've done your best. I could see that from all the study materials in your room. I know you gave it your all. Sometimes, luck just isn't on our side, so don't be too hard on yourself."

With teary eyes, Tony shook his head, not accepting Matthew's reassurance. "Don't try to justify it. It's just my own incompetence."

Matthew didn't want to dwell on this, so he got right to the reason he'd show up. "I came to you to take back Vital Restorative Remedies and Octolith."

Taking them back?

With conflicted emotions, Tony paused for a bit before nodding. "Yes. You should take them back. Leaving them in my hands is a waste of their value, but..."

Tony trailed off mid-sentence.

Upon hearing that, Matthew felt his heart jump to his throat. He had a bad feeling that retrieving Vital Restorative Remedies and Octolith might not go smoothly.
