Chapter 832
After Darius ended the call, he walked out of the door and saw Karina, his wife, typing a message. He walked over and said, "I've already told them to get moving, so you don't need to talk to them again."
Karina put her phone away. "Alright. I hope everything works out. When we get back, you'll become the youngest president of the Fields family."
Darius' eyes lit up. "Once I become the president, you'll be the president's wife. From then on, no one in the Fields family will look down on you again."
Not far away, Gunnar was typing on his phone like he was in the middle of a conversation.
A few minutes later, Gunnar approached Marilyn and sneakily grabbed her butt, whispering, "Do a good job tonight. After we're done, we'll head to the hotel, and I'll reward you. I'll make sure you'll be screaming with joy."
Marilyn grunted. "You're so naughty."
The yard was a mess. Chauncey directed the musicians as the funeral music played, its sorrowful tune filling the air.
The funeral procession crew got to work, using a crane to put the coffin onto the car. The others carried candles and flowers into the car as well.noveldrama
Tony led the way, heading straight for the Carling family's burial site in Suncroft Village.
By the time they got there, night had fully set in. The headlights of a few vehicles shone brightly as Chauncey directed the burial work.
The funeral home staff put flowers in the grave pit, including lilies, carnations, orchids, hydrangeas, and tulips.
Finally, Chauncey directed the crane to lower the coffin into the grave. In less than ten minutes, the excavator had filled the grave.
Chauncey walked over to Tony and offered his prayers. "May the flowers bring peace and good fortune to the future generations of the deceased's family. Even after Jay's passing, he'll still watch over the future generations."
Chauncey said those things to make the person paying feel better. It was just something he had picked up from the years of doing this job.
When he asked for payment, he got to say that part again.
Hearing that, Tony coldly remarked, "Don't even bless his family. His children deserve retribution."
If Tony had known the flowers were meant as blessings, he would've stopped Chauncey. After all, he was fed up with Benson, Marilyn, and Darius.
Chauncey stood there and blankly stared at Tony, not knowing what to say.
He had never heard anyone cursing the younger generations in the family on this occasion. He wanted to ask for payment, but now, he felt too awkward to bring it up.
Tony added, "What's next?"
Chauncey looked at another batch of flowers. "The final part is the committal. The family will place flowers on the grave as a farewell. Then, our job is done, and we'll head out."
With that, Chauncey looked at Tony, eagerly waiting.
Tony nodded, then turned to Darius and waved his hand. "Pay up."
Darius stepped forward and earnestly shouted, "I'll pay for Dad's funeral."
Chauncey smiled when he heard Darius' confident statement. He praised, "Even though the deceased is gone, he was lucky to have grateful children. On top of that, they're capable and generous with money."
Darius sported a polite smile. "It's nothing. That's the least I can do."
Next to them, Tony couldn't stand Darius acting all smug and huffed. "Grateful, my ass. They're just heartless animals."
Darius flushed with embarrassment, his eyes flickering with a menacing look. But he swiftly regained his composure. He took care of the bill and waved at Chauncey. "See you."
Chauncey knitted his brows together. Saying goodbye to the funeral procession crew meant bad luck, so no one did that.
Even the family involved in the funeral shouldn't say goodbye either. If they really wanted to say something, they would usually just say thanks.
