Chapter 831
Matthew was seriously thinking about ending Benson's life, but Brad refused to clean up the scene for him anymore. If he decided to kill someone, he had to ask Ansel to deal with the aftermath.
In that case, he had to keep the whole thing a secret. He didn't want to kill everyone here, so he let Benson off the hook this time.
Killing had become second nature to Matthew. But when he faced someone he wanted to kill and couldn't, it felt off like there was a lump in his throat.
Tony reassured Matthew, saying, "You can count on me. If anything goes wrong, just throw the blame on me. Tell them it was my idea."
Matthew was surprised. "Aren't you afraid?"
Most old people would want to avoid trouble, but Tony was unlike the rest. He willingly took it upon himself.
A pang of sorrow flashed across Tony's face. "I used to believe that even if Jay died, I'd still have three family members left. I never expected Jay to be the last of them. I'm like a flickering candle in the wind, and I could be gone at any time. Nothing is holding me back. Why should I be scared?"
Matthew thought about it and realized that nothing else really mattered when life felt hopeless.
Seeing a distinguished doctor in such a miserable state didn't sit right with him, so he changed the subject, "What's your next plan?"
Tony glanced at Darius and Marilyn and paused for a moment before replying, "Let's move on to the burial. There's no need to wait around. Let's just lay Jay to rest."
Matthew was taken aback. It was the first time he had seen someone skip the funeral and go straight to burial. "Aren't you going to give it a second thought? Don't you want your friends and relatives to mourn for Jay?"
Tony shook his head. "The more friends and family show up, the more embarrassing it gets. None of Jay's kids are grieving, so forget about any relatives coming to the funeral. Let's just move on to the burial."
Darius exchanged glances with Marilyn before stepping forward. "We'll go ahead with the burial like you said, Uncle Tony. The three of us still have a lot to take care of in Eastoria."
Tony glanced at Darius with a cold expression.
Nobody knew how hard it was for Tony to make the call to skip the funeral. He couldn't bear to do that to Jay.
But he didn't want things to escalate, especially with the inheritance fight and conflict over owning Vital Restorative Remedies.
Tony knew that if Benson, Marilyn, and Darius couldn't get their hands on Vital Restorative Remedies, things were going to get worse.
He didn't want Jay to be disturbed even after death. But hearing Darius' words only made his heart sink.
Tony turned to the staff from the funeral home and instructed, "Just take Jay to the family burial site to bury him."
Chauncey Rutherford, the funeral home manager, was an old man in his 60s. He was skinny and frail with short hair. Many people loved to call him Chance.
He had taken care of so many funerals that he knew all about tradition and culture in Lambda City.
Upon hearing Tony's words, Chauncey furrowed his brows and approached Tony. "We typically follow a custom for the wake. It usually takes one day before we commence the funeral, so-"
Tony shook his head. "We won't follow all that. Honestly, I don't even know how many days it's been since Jay died. Let's just bury him now."
Chauncey pointed at the sky. "The sun's already setting, and it's getting late. If we make our way to the family burial site now, it'll be dark. Burying someone at night is against tradition."
Tony thought it over and responded, "We'll cut the three-day funeral down to just one day. I won't pay you any less."
Chauncey's face lit up with a smile. "Alright. I'll let the funeral procession crew and the excavator driver know. Let's start the burial ceremony now."
After hearing everything was arranged, Darius walked into the villa alone and pulled out his phone to make a phone call. "Have you guys arrived yet?"noveldrama
A deep male voice came through the phone. "We'll be there soon. Just give the word, and we'll get it done."
Darius added, "If you can't find Vital Restorative Remedies, get the backup plan ready. Just take Uncle Tony away. Since he has recovered, he's the living version of the medical book."
What do you think?
